It isn't Samuel, all good guesses so far. Here are two more.

Abel, Cain, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Esau, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David and Samuel.
from this list the authors of the Bible consisted of:
Moses, David, and Samuel.
Therefore the only character left would be:
DAVID!

i am embarrassed at how long it took me to figure that out! am i right?
clue #1 is that hes a prophet, was david a "prophet"? my guess is samuel, although i kinda think that bens guess is right
