BTLN UPDATE - THE 18TH BTLN OLYMPICS

Congrats to GeRRald, the 2012 Btln 3739 Olympic Champion! What a night! Definitely one of the best Btln Olympics ever! There were 32 guys competing in the 18th Btln 3739 Olympics! 32 guys is a new Olympic record!
With 32 guys and five events it is harder to determine who is winning throughout the night. This makes for a few surprises when we are figuring out the final scores. We knew that it was going to be close between GeRRald, Tristan and John but we had no idea that Jakob Boschman was also in the hunt for Btln Olympic Supremacy!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

Congrats Nate! This is the second Helmet of the Btln Season for Nate!(And the third of Nate's Btln career!)
This week was Mike Night at Battalion! Mike is always fun but this week it was amazing! (It was Bent's first time playing Mike with four teams!) Three of the four teams took turns with the lead throughout the night. Bent's team came up empty the first two rounds falling behind early. Zach opened up a big lead early but was eventually caught by Jake's team. The surprise? Bent's team battled back from a double digit deficit to finish second!

Mike Final Scores
Jake's Team - 36
Bent's Team - 35
Jason's Team - 30
Zach's Team - 30

This week Zach (Btln 3739 Sarge 12) took the lead in the Bible Study! We looked at Joshua and the crossing of the Jordan in our continuing series "The History of the World" or "His Story".
(Joshua 3:1-17)

Zach talked about how the Israelites were commanded to follow the Ark of the Covenant which was the symbol of God's presence among them. They were supposed to follow the Ark but were supposed to keep their distance (1000 feet) to show that they respected God's Holiness.

Joshua 3:1-4  Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, who are Levites, carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about a thousand yards between you and the ark; do not go near it.”

We should also respect God's holiness, but God does not ask us to keep our distance anymore!

Hebrews 4:14-16  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Zach told us that we need to follow God like the Israeliters followed the Ark into the Jordan river. We need to follow God because like the Israelites we don't know which way to go without God's direction!

Zach also told us that we need to put others first just like the priests who waited in the middle of the Jordan for the entire Israelite Nation to cross.

Joshua 3:17  The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

One passage that Zach shared wraps up this weeks study.

Matthew 22:36-39  “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

This week we also had the draw for the iPod! There were about seven or eight guys that saw 71,000 visitor's here on the blog. All the names went into the draw and Rik Brown was our winner! Congrats Rik!

Next week is the 18th Battalion 3739 Olympics! Make sure that you are early!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Luke! First Helmet of the 2012/13 Btln Season for Luke!(This is the second Helmet of Luke's Btln career!) This puts Luke into second place for Winston! It was a sweet finish, there were three guys left on the last round and not one of them made it, but Luke made it the furthest across the gym! Luke thought that he had lost until everyone told him that he won!

We haven't had a "normal" night in a while so this week we played a "normal" game, Murderball!
Zach's team was winning early and often. Every game we took one of Zach's players and gave them to the other team until after 5 rounds Zach finally lost. The sixth game was again another win for Zach! Zach 5, Bill 1.(Names have been changed so as not to embarrass.)

This week in Bible study we looked at Moses in our continuing series "The History of the World" or "His Story".  (Exodus 1:1-22, Exodus 2:1-25, Exodus 11:1-10, Exodus 12:1-29)
We looked at Moses' birth and the Passover.

Pharaoh becomes afraid of the Israelites so he decides that he will kill the Israelite baby boys to stop the growth of the Israelite Nation in Egypt. God not only keeps Moses from being killed but also has Moses adopted by the Pharaoh's daughter! What an amazing story! (Moses rises to power in Egypt just like his great uncle Joseph!)

Hebrews 11:24-28 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.

If only God would talk about us this way! Moses gave up all the treasures of Egypt to serve God!

Moses returns to Egypt to bring God's people out of Egypt and into the promised land. Nine terrible plagues do not convince Pharaoh to release his slaves so God is forced to send one more devastating plague. God has Moses warn Pharaoh that if he doesn't let the Israelites leave that every first born in Egypt would die. (Pharaoh was warned before every plague.)

Exodus 11:4,5  So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the slave girl, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well.

When it comes to God's grace or judgement, our position or status on this earth does not matter! The Pharaoh's and the slave girl's firstborn would both die!(And everyone in between!)

God brings judgement on Egypt but brings compassion and grace to the Israelite people!

Exodus 12:5-7  The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the door frames of the houses where they eat the lambs.

Exodus 12:12,13  “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

God passed over the houses of the Israelites because of the blood of lamb without defect. This was looking forward to when God would look upon Jesus' blood (Our lamb without defect) and forgive us our sins! We only need to accept his perfect gift!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats to Jordan! This is Jordan's first Helmet of the 2012/13 Btln Season! Cody was there at the end and nearly pulled off his second Helmet of the season but was beat out by Jordan! 10 weeks into the Btln Season and we have 9 winners! Crazy!

The first time we played Mike 23 we played with one beach ball and the game lasted about 30 seconds before the ball was flattened. The second time we played Mike 23 we once again played with one ball. It was a tougher ball, but because there was only one ball it became a game of dog pile on that one ball. Now we have 1 zorb, 6 exercise balls and about 20 of the large Murderballs. The result? Chaos! There are balls flying around everywhere! There are four teams and the scores climb and fall depending on which round we are playing.

The final scores were
Ben's team, 3
Nathan's team, 11
Cody's team, -14
Jordan's team, 19

Jordan really cleaned up this week!

In Bible study this week Ben was our guide as we took a look at Joseph in our continuing series
"The History of the World" or "His Story". (Genesis chapters 37-46)
(Ben tackled 10 chapters! Not an easy feat!)
Ben talked about how at the beginning of the story Joseph comes across as spoiled and a little arrogant. He tells his family that according to his dreams they would one day bow down to him!

Genesis 37:9-11  Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

Next God would allow Joseph to endure some very hard circumstances. Joseph would be sold into slavery by his brothers and be thrown into prison after being falsely accused. These hard times helped shape the man that Joseph would become. Joseph was 17 when he had his first dream and was 30 when he first entered Pharaoh's service.  Which means it must have been close to ten years of hard times! Joseph stayed faithful to God. Joseph must have believed that the hard times he had to endure were a part of God's plan.

Genesis 45:4-8  Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.  “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.

We would do well to remember Joseph's faithfulness to God when we go through hard times! Remember, God is still in control and he wants what is best for you!

Ben pointed out that Joseph gave his brothers the best land in Egypt even though they didn't deserve it. Ben compared this to what God is going to do for us. God will give an eternity in Heaven to whoever will accept his gift! And like Joseph's brothers we don't deserve it, but we would be crazy not to accept his wonderful gift!

BTLN MEMORY WORK

I figured it was time to start motivating guys to do the Memory Work. Truth is, I never stop selling the Memory Work, but it was time to take it to the next level! Some of the guys are well on their way to completing the Memory Work and others haven't even started yet. In the past the guys didn't get started until the Second half. This means there is a lot of time but it is so much easier if you get an early start!

Remember, if you complete the Memory Work you will get a free trip to Creation 2013, a Btln Medallion and will have your name engraved on the Btln 3739 Memory Work Legends Plaque! And then there is the best reason of all, it is God's Word!

Psalm 119:9-16  How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

BTLN UPDATE - S*A*M N*I*G*H*T

Wednesday was  S*A*M  N*I*G*H*T! What is  S*A*M  N*I*G*H*T?   S*A*M is Murderball in the dark with glow sticks and glow in the dark balls. NOW it is also Handball with glow sticks and glow in the dark balls! If we added Extreme Bulldog we could call it the  S*A*M  Trifecta!(mmmm.....maybe next time!)

Like I have said before  S*A*M  is optically trippy. It is almost as much fun to watch as it is to play!
J-man played  S*A*M  for the first time this week and he gave it TWO thumbs up! We played three games of Murderball. My team losing all three!  We were never very close, but who cares, we were playing  S*A*M  !  Next we played Handball for the first time! It took a little while to get going, but once our eyes adjusted, Handball was a ton of fun! Problem was, we ended with the same result as Murderball! My team got beat up. All in all, a good trial run for  S*A*M  Handball!

This week in Bible study we looked at the story found in 1 Samuel 28:3-25 and 1 Samuel 31:1-6.
This story is about Saul and the witch of Endor.

Saul becomes very afraid because the Philistines were about to attack Israel.  Saul tries to ask God for help but because Saul has disobeyed God, he will not answer him. What does Saul do next?

1 Samuel 28:7  Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”

In the past Saul had expelled the mediums and spiritists. Now he consults a medium!

We need to be careful to follow God's plan for our lives or we may find ourselves doing the very things we were fighting against!

Saul has the witch call up the prophet Samuel from the dead for him. Samuel tells Saul that the Israelite army will be defeated and that he (Saul) is going to die.

1 Samuel 28:19  The Lord will hand over both Israel and you to the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also hand over the army of Israel to the Philistines.”

Question is, if Saul and his sons were going to join Samuel, where was Samuel? These next two passages will give us a clue.

Matthew 12:38-40  Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you.”  He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.  For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Ephesians 4:8-10  “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)

Samuel was in Hades, which was and still is in the heart of the earth with all of the dead from the past. There were two compartments. One compartment was were the saved saints were waiting for Christ to pay for their sin. The other compartment was and still is full of the unsaved. This compartment was and still is a place of torment. When Jesus died and then rose from the dead for our sins he carried all the saints to Heaven with him! Now when we die we get to go straight to heaven to be with our Saviour!(If we have accepted his precious gift!) (For more info check out Luke 16:19-31)

We have been waiting for the Sergeant to get his first Helmet of the season and this week GeRRald would not be denied! Congrats GeRRald! Is this the first of many Helmets for GeRRald? I think GeRRald has a few more in him!

Almost forgot to mention that we had  P*I*Z*Z*A  sandwiches this week! So good!
