THE 5TH ANNUAL BATTALION ALUMNI NIGHT

It is hard to believe that it has already been five years since we started the Btln Alumni Night! Once again it will be on December 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Who is invited? If you are in grade eleven, twelve or are a part of the Btln 3739 Alumni then you are invited! Murderball, Bulldog and a lot of reminiscing on the agenda!
It is only a month away!

WINSTON STANDINGS

After the Battalion Olympics it was time again for a Winston Standings update. This year the race for Winston is real close. Chris has the lead right now with three Helmets, but there are six other guys with Helmets and two of them have a Btln Major. The last three years the Winston Champion has had 4 Helmets in 2008(Drew Brown), 5 Helmets in 2009(also Drew Brown)and 6 Helmets in 2010(Sam Schiesser). What will it take this year? If I was guessing I would say that five Helmets is probably going to be the winning total this year. Anyways here are the totals.

Chris Henderson - 3 Helmets
Dalton Shore - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
Stephen Lawrence - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
Zane Lawson - 2 Helmets
Zach Gobbett - 1 Helmet
Jordan Hammett - 1 Helmet
Ben Nicolson - 1 Helmet

16TH BATTALION OLYMPICS

I have said it before and I will say it again, the Battalion Olympics is probably the best and most original thing that we do at Battalion 3739! The numbers were down again but all of the key people were there, and the competition was great. The strategy that is involved in winning the Olympics cannot be underestimated. Zach had the lead with about ten minutes left and then Dalton took over and won his first ever Battalion Major! Congrats Dalton! The Olympics is hard to win and even harder to win in back to back years. Thanks to all who came out and competed and to all the Alumni that helped set up and tear down!

BTLN OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS

This Wednesday the 16th annual Battalion Olympics will be taking place! In fifteen years we have had eleven winners and four back to back Champions. We have not had a back to back winner since Bent won in 04/05 and 05/06. Zach was the first grade ten to win the Olympics and by doing so he give himself a chance to win three years in a row! Zach will have his hands full as everyone else will be determined to make sure he does not win this year.

BTLN UPDATE

Jordan takes his first Helmet! Congrats Jordan! Zach started in the middle this week and he made it his mission to take out all the previous Helmet winners. Chris, Stevie, Zane and Dalton were all on the hit list. After a good game of Bulldog we had pizza to finish the night. As you can see the Pizza Sandwich lives on at Battalion 3739!
This week we played football in the gym, I guess it has been a while since we have played it because most guys don't ever remember playing football in the gym. On my team's first drive Zane got us an early lead with a nice catch in the end zone putting us up 7-0. Jeremy's team responded with big catches by Dalton and Devin giving them a 14-7 lead. We had other big plays by Zane and Cody Harp stepped it up but in the end we were unable to find the end zone again giving Jeremy's team a 14-7 win.
This week in Bible study we looked at three stories. The calling of Levi(Luke 5:27-32), Zacchaeus(Luke 19:1-10) and when Jesus talked to the Samaritan woman(John 4:1-42).

Luke 5:30-32 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Two things here, first the Pharisees needed to realize that "All have sinned"(Romans 3:23,24)so they themselves were in the same boat as everyone else. They(The Pharisees)also needed a Saviour. Secondly, Jesus was willing to help whoever was willing. Jesus was not worried about social status, he wanted to help everyone. This still true today! Jesus will help whoever asks! He has left the choice up to you.

1 Timothy 1:15a - Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Next week is the 16th Battalion Olympics! Don't be late!

BTLN UPDATE

Zach has been close to winning Bulldog several times this year and now he finally has his first Helmet of the year! Congrats Zach! Will the Helmets come in bunches for Zach or will Chris(The King), Stevie and Zane continue their dominance?
Last week we played Mike and this week it was Mike 23! Mike 23 is optically awesome and a ton of fun to play. The Zorb adds a whole new dimension to Mike 23, we will have to play with two next time. With Mike 23 the scores change radically from round to round, each team holding the lead at least once. The score was real close at the end, Ryley getting is revenge from last weeks loss to Devin and Charlie. My team came last but Charles and Devin were both cheating.(They kept throwing balls into my teams corner after the whistle.)

Mike 23 final scores
Team Ryley - 14
Team Devin/Zane - 13
Team Charlie/Chris - 12
Team Captain/Stevie - 11

This week in the Bible study we were in John 3 so we had a chance to look at probably the most famous passage in the Bible.

John 3:16-18 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

John 3:16 tells us that if we believe in Jesus that we will have eternal life, but what do we need to believe about him so that we can inherit eternal life?

Romans 10:9 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We need to believe that Jesus died for our sins, that he was buried and that he was raised from the dead on the third day. If we believe this we will get to spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus our God and Savior!(Also check out 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

BTLN UPDATE

Chris is once again laying claim to his kingdom! I tried to get in his way and he just brushed me aside.(Kinda like I did to him when he was in grade seven. What goes around comes around!) Chris outlasted Nathan K. to take his third Helmet of the year! Congrats Chris!(We played Bulldog with the strobe!)
This week was Mike Night! The guys are always stoked when they see the strobe hanging from the roof of the gym. We played with three teams, Team Charlie, Team Devin and Team Ryley/Chris. Ryley and Devin were trash talking the whole game even though Team Ryley/Chris were never really in the game. They were taking it on the chin the whole game. Team Charlie and Team Devin both took turns with the lead, but in the final round Team Devin cleaned up and ended with a big win.

Mike Night final score
Team Devin - 42
Team Charlie - 38
Team Ryley/Chris - 32

In the Bible study we looked at the story when Jesus went into the temple and cleaned house.(John 2:13-17) Jesus found people selling cattle, sheep and doves in the temple courts. He made a whip and went into the courts and chased everyone out. He also dumped tables and scattered the coins.
Jesus said "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"
In all this Jesus did not sin! There is a time for righteous anger. The problem is most times we don't get angry without sinning.

Proverbs 29:22 - An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.

Proverbs 14:17 - A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.

Psalm 103:8-13 - The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Although there is a time for righteous anger it would be better if we erred on the side of compassion. We should be slow to anger and compassionate!
