BTLN UPDATE - 20TH ANNUAL PING PONG TOURNEY

Congrats again to the Boschmann family! Lukas and Jakob will meet in the Ping Pong final for the second year in a row! The Boschmann name will be engraved on the Ping Pong trophy for the third year in a row. Will it be Jakob for the third year in a row or will Lukas add the Ping Pong trophy to his mantle beside the Olympic trophy?

This year we had 25 guys competing in the 20th Battalion Ping Pong Tourney. The numbers were down a little from last year, but that didn't change the quality of the tourney. Overall I think that the quality of play improved this year over the last few years.

Ping Pong night is a very laid back night at Battalion, so in the last few years we have added pizza to the evening. The guys consumed 5 extra large Battalion pizzas from Rumours! It is the best smelling pizza anywhere!

On Sunday night we will be having Battalion Night at the Gospel Chapel. This is when Lukas and Jakob will be playing the Ping Pong final. Battalion Night will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1.

Can't wait for the Ping Pong final! Good luck to both Lukas and Jakob!

Thanks to Ben, Jason, Devin and Nathan for all of their help!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE 23

Congrats Dylan! This was Dylan's first Helmet ever! Not many guys win a Helmet in grade nine. Dylan has been close to winning in the past, but this week he would not be denied! Dylan's persistence paid off this week!

This week we played Mike 23! As you can tell from the picture, Mike 23 is Btln chaos at it's best! (This picture is one of the best that I have seen all year!) There are 23 balls being thrown and kicked, making the gym a dangerous place to be! (Just ask Ben) In Mike 23 the scores rise and fall. The team that is in the lead early gets picked on in the next round, keeping the scores close.

MIKE 23 FINAL SCORES
Jason's team - 9
Nate's team - 8
Ben's team - 6
Nathan's team - 6

In Bible Study we looked at prayer. The Bible has so much to say about prayer, this is just the tip of the iceberg! Here are a few of the things that we talked about this week.

1) We are to pray sincerely.

Hebrews 10:22a   Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings.

2) We are to pray with understanding

1 Corinthians 14:15a   So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding.

3) We are to pray with confidence.

Hebrews 4:16   Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

4) We are to pray with faith. Believing that God will answer our prayers.

Hebrews 10:22a   Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings.

5) We are to pray for every need. Big or small.

Philippians 4:6   Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

6) We are to pray with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6   Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

7) We are to pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17   Pray without ceasing.

Next week is the 20th Battalion Ping Pong Tourney! Make sure that you are early!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Noah! This is Noah's third Helmet of the Btln Season! The final two in Bulldog were Jonathan and Noah. Caleb Hiebert did the unthinkable and got in Jonathan's way, helping to take him down! Noah taking his first Helmet of the Second Half!

At the beginning of the night we had an impromptu full court basketball game. When we started there were about eight guys playing, but by the end, there had to be about 20! There were so many guys playing that Jason added a second ball! Mike scored the winning basket for Jason's team!

Later in the evening we played Murderball. My team never really ever got our mojo going. The first game was close, but the next two were ugly! Ben's team winning the series 3-0! We probably needed to make a trade. I wish we played more Murderball.

This week Ben led us through a study on true love. The worlds version of love is very different than God's. Ben told us that the true love that comes from God has been hijacked by satan and sin. Because of the sin in our lives, humans will always warp the beautiful things that God has created.

John 13:34-35   “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

If we are supposed to love one another as Jesus loved us, then what does that look like?

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7   Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 John 4:8   Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

The world would be a very different place if we would learn to love like God wanted us to!

Check out these other passages that Ben used. Romans 5:1-5, Galatians 6:1-10, Ephesians 4:2, 1 Peter 4:8, 1 John 3:16-18, Matthew 22:37-39)

Thanks to Ben for doing the Bible study!

Next week we are playing Mike 23!

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - FEBRUARY

In the month of February most people are thinking about love. The world has a warped view of love. In the book of John we find out that dying for our friends would be the greatest way to show our love. Jesus took love a step further when he died for us while we were his enemies!

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:8   But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:10   For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

We are so fortunate to have so many amazing men in Btln 3739! I love to highlight these men each month!

Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!

HARRY TOURNEMILLE - February 2
DYLAN WARWARUK - February 2
ANDREW NEUFELD - February 6
DESHAWN DENNIS - February 11
GEORGE KOZUB - February 13
TIM FEENSTRA - February 14
BEN JEPSEN - February 14
JUSTIN BEKKER - February 17
RILEY LEIGHTON - February 20

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Luke! This is Luke's fifth Helmet of the 2014/15 Btln Season! It was Jonathan and Luke at the end, like it has been so many times this year! Luke pulled off the win, taking his fifth Helmet!

This week we played Handball. I haven't played goal or defense in Handball yet this year because Tyson, Stephen, Ben and Noah have been playing these positions all year. Tyson wasn't around this week so I had to step in. I forgot how much abuse the goalie takes in Handball! My team had the early 5-2 lead but Ben's team battled back to take a 9-6 lead! The momentum swung back in my team's favour, we tied the game 13-13. My team managed to complete the comeback winning 15-13! It has been a while since my team has won, the abuse was worth it!

In Bible study we looked at a couple of stories about Peter. (Matthew 14:22-33, John 21:4-8)

Matthew 14:25-33   Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Peter actually climbs out of the boat in a storm and walks to Jesus on the water! Peter was doing good until he took his eyes off of Jesus. Once Peter noticed the wind and the waves he began to sink. The same could be said for anyone one of us. When we take our eyes off of Jesus and start to worry about the storms of life we will also sink! Jesus picked Peter up and helped him into the boat when he began to doubt. Jesus will do the same for us, even when we begin to doubt!

Peter did get out of the boat for Jesus. He faltered after he climbed out, but he did climb out. The other eleven disciples did not leave there seats.  How many of us would have climbed out of the boat? Peter loved Jesus, that was why he was willing to do some crazy things for Jesus. Will we be willing to do crazy things (by the world's standards) for Jesus? Will we get out of the boat for Jesus?

1 John 4:19   We love him, because he first loved us.
