BTLN HEROES

Just wanted to thank all of the Alumni that helped out at Battalion 3739 this year! Battalion could not have happened without your help. (Insert the song Hero by Skillet.)

Colossians 3:23,24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Thanks again!

MAY LONG 2011 THE WRAP

The 2011 May Long is in the books and it was another classic! The weekend started out with blue skies and with a boat that wouldn't start. Ken Lazeroff(Kyler and Colton's dad.) helped out and got us all over to Treadmill.(Thanks Ken!)(Jeremy and dad later got our boat started.) Once on Treadmill it was time to set up. I never get tired of setting up camp on Treadmill! Jeremy showed up Friday night in time to put up the tarp with the help of the J-Man. The tarp was set up just in time as later Friday night the rain came.(I am so thankful for that tarp!) Saturday more guys showed up filling the beach with tents. Thanks to the Alumni that came out! Altogether we had around thirty guys on the beach. Saturday night was our sixth annual May Long Cribbage tourney. Tyler and Maxwell played d-Pod and Eli in the final. Tyler and Max won the first game but the Pods stormed back with two straight wins to take the title! David joins Abe as the only two guys to have won the tourney twice.
Sunday morning the rain really showed up and it looked at first like it might not stop. Fortunately the rain did stop and the sun came out and dried the tents! On Sunday Jonathan Fojt completed the Memory Work for the first time! It was my highlight of the weekend to have Tyler and Jason give Jonathan his Battalion Medallion! This is what I love about Battalion! Watching the Alumni get involved and give back is a beautiful thing!
We have been trying to change the length of the May Long for the past couple of years but were never sure how to do it. If we showed up on Saturday then Treadmill would already be full and if we stay from Friday until Monday then it seems like we are there a little too long. So if we go out Friday morning and come home Sunday afternoon(Like we did this year.)then we get two nights and three days on the beach.(This is about the right length of time.) This is what we are going to try again next year.

Again thanks to everyone who came out! It was an amazing weekend!

Can't wait for May Long 2012!

More about the May Long tomorrow.(The May Long Wrap.) Thanks to all that travelled great distances to be a part of the May Long!

MAY LONG FOOD

Guys are always asking "How much food should I bring?" or "What kind of food should I bring?" A good rule of thumb for the amount of food is to count the amount of meals you will be having while you are camping plus two or three more. What kinds of things you bring to eat is totally up to you. Here is my list to give you an idea.

THE CAPTAIN'S MENU
hot dogs
hamburgers
steaks
Mennonite Sausage
beans
bacon and eggs
one block of cheese
cinnamon buns
hash browns
roll kuchen and Rogers golden syrup
chips

Spitz(seasoned)

MAYLONG WEATHER REPORT

It is our first chance to take a look at the Maylong weather. It looks like there might be a little rain, but overall it looks pretty good! Of course this is only the 14 day trend, but it does give us an idea of what the weather is going to be like.

10 days until Maylong 2011!

BATTALION 3739 IN PHILLY?

I was given the opportunity to represent Btln 3739 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania! There were over 600 Brigade Men at N-Counter 2011! It was a real encouragement to be able to spend time with other Brigade leaders. I had the chance to meet Joe Coughlin's(The founder of Brigade.)right hand man, Lee Troup. Lee was given an honorary Herald of Christ.(It was amazing!)
Anyways, I was invited to explain to the other Battalion Captains(And other Brigade Leaders.)how and why we do things at Btln 3739. I was very honoured to be able to speak to these men! I hope that they were encouraged as much as I was!
The only problem with N-Counter was that the rest of 3739 was not there with me!
Before I left for Philadelphia Ryley asked me if I was going to have a Philly cheese steak. There was just no way I could go to Philly and not have a cheese steak!(Check out the pictures)

LAST NIGHT - THE WRAP

It has been another very good year at Battalion 3739! God has again been faithful! We realize that it is God that has provided the young men, the place were we meet and the ability to do the work!
For most guys when they look back at Battalion one of the first things that they will think of will be Murderball. This makes it the obvious choice for Last Night. Even though the games were not that close, there is something fun about throwing balls at other guys! In the end my team took it on the chin losing 3-2 to Jeremy's team.
The 9 foot party sub from Subway has been a part of Last Night tradition for six years and it is one that we will continue!
After the party sub it was time for the Btln 3739 grad ceremonies. It started with the reading and eating of the Btln 3739 Motto. It is always a surprise for the grads when they read the motto for the first time, but one that I hope they will never forget! Next the grads were given their Btln dog tags and their Bibles. My hope and prayer for the grads is that they will wear out their Bibles with lots of studying!
The year end picture is always beautiful! I only wish that we had started it sooner. It helps capture so many good memories.
Bulldog has always been the final chapter of any night at Btln 3739 and Last Night was not any different! Chris was in the middle to start after clinching Winston the previous week. Zach Gobbett got his fifth Helmet win, finishing second in the Winston standings for the second straight year. Congrats Zach!
Both Drew Brown(Winston Champion 2008 and 2009) and Sam Schiesser(Winston Champion 2010) presented Chris with Winston.(Classic Btln moment!) Congrats Chris! You earned it!
Next was a final prayer and then the watchword.
Before heading to the Station for more food the grads had the chance to pick out a Btln Medallion. Not sure how this tradition started but it is definitely one of the best!
The after party at the Station was amazing! We had Cross Trax, Burgers, Wings, Chicken and a lot of Dads Rootbeer.(32 bottles!) The food was gone at the end of the night but the memories will last forever!

Congratulations to the 2011 Btln 3739 Grads!

Chris Henderson
Kaleb Horkoff
Zane Lawson
Dalton Shore

Sorry that this is so late, I was out of town promoting Battalion.(Encouraging other Battalion Captains.)
