We also had Clayton Kienas(not sure what his grad year was) and Tim(sorry I don't know his last name, Ben and Sammy's future brother in-law)

What a good night! The murderball was amazing, when one of the teams would get an edge the other team could not make a comeback. We had probably the top three hardest throwers in Btln history, Kevin Thiessen(just ask Devan England), Jordon Walsh and Nathan Ball. After murderball Alan led the Bible study. The passage that Al read was John 1:1-14, he talked about how Jesus came to give us Life, Light and Love. Next was Bulldog, man there were a lot of big guys out there. Ryley and Dan were not able to live up to expectations(pretty hard with the big targets on there backs), Kevin Hayashi was able to outlast everyone and take the win, Congrats to Kevin! The last thing on the agenda was to hand out the Alumni shirts, and after a little visiting in the locker room the night was still not over, it was time to go to Jepsen's. What a party, the night ended around 3 in the morning.
There were 40 guys by my count, that is a lot of guys! There were 14 Sergeants out of a total of 22 over the last 30 years. When I got home I started thinking about all of the guys that came out and a passage came to mind.

Hebrews 12:1,2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

A great cloud of witnesses? You bet! All you have to do is look at the list that God has written for us in the previous chapter. Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Gideon, Samson and David all had their mistakes recorded in the Bible and God still calls them men of faith. So why not the men of Battalion 3739? Remember Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith, he is still working on us and when we reach heaven we will be perfect. We should feel blessed to have such a great cloud of witnesses!

Thanks to Bruce and Katie for giving up their house for a night!

Remember Battalion 3739 Alumni Night 2009 is on December 27th, see you there!

THREE WISE MEN?

When we look at the Christmas story (especially the visit of the Wise Men)there are some things that we believe that are not necessarily true. Were there really three Wise Men? When did the Wise Men visit Joseph, Mary, and Jesus? And did the Wise Men really follow the star? The reason why we think that there were three Wise Men was because there were three gifts.(Gold, incense and myrrh)The Bible never actually tells us how many Wise Men there were, although there probably were three. When I was younger I always thought that the Wise Men came on the same night that Jesus was born.(Around the same time that the Shepherds showed up.) The Sunday School Christmas program almost always had the Wise Men coming Christmas night. Matthew 2:11 shows us that Mary and Joseph were now living in a house when the wise men showed up and when Herod had the baby boys killed in Bethlehem(Matthew 2:16) he killed all those that were two and under according to the time he had learned from the Wise Men. Finally, if the Wise Men had been following the star they would not have gone to Herod to ask were to find Jesus. (Matthew 2:10-When they(The Wise Men)saw the star, they were overjoyed.) After the Wise Men met with Herod the star appeared again, this is why they were so happy. Does any of this really matter? The point is that we need to read and study the Bible for ourselves to truly discover the truth. Take time to read the Christmas story this Christmas season, you will probably discover something that you have never noticed before!

LOCKER ROOM REVIEW

The dream for a room that we could call our own began a couple of years ago. Money had been donated by Alumni and permission granted from the church but we had to wait for the new kitchen to be built. Labor Day weekend came and we started building the room. It seems like a long time ago, but really it has only been a little over three months. It is hard to remember what those two rooms looked like before we started, but now it is amazing. The room turned out better than I could have imagined. The room is almost done and should be ready for Alumni Night. I suppose the room will never be done because we will always be dreaming up new things to make it better but right now I am really happy about how it turned out. The trophy case is amazing(thanks to Bruce, Sergeant 83/84 season), the benches turned out great and the paint colors are perfect. Thanks to all those that donated money as well as those that donated their time. Special thanks to Dan for making the trip from Kelowna a couple times to work on the room. Can't wait to have all of the Alumni in the room on the 27th!

BTLN 3739 FIRST HALF REVIEW

It is hard to believe that the first half is already over, and what a first half it was! At First Night we had the jersey presentation and a trip to Boston Pizza with the Non-Coms. The following week was the pool party with a sweet belly flop comp. Later in the fall we had our baseball game under the lights(without rain) and our annual trip to the coast to win the Director's Cup(and the Lions game). The first Btln Major of the year was The Royal Rumble and Drew took that title, D-Pod took the last major of the first half when he became the Olympic Champion. There have been many games of Murderball and Bulldog with a few bumps and bruises, but on the whole it was a great first half ending at the Three Bees. Great thing is I think the second half will be better than the first!

Check out the new poll and countdown for Alumni Night.

the three Bees

the three Bees have come and gone and another good night at Battalion. the Bees has always been a casual night, no Balls flying at your head, But that doesn't mean that we don't play games without the element of danger. footBall on a snowy parking lot can be a little sketchy, But it is always fun. like any other footBall game played in the snow it was a defensive Battle, in fact the only touchdown scored was on defense. d-pod was at quarterBack and he had the fonz in his sights only proBlem was that drew was Between the fonz and d-pod. drew intercepted the Ball and ran it Back for a touchdown. neither team was aBle to score after this play, the game ended drew's team 7, d-pod's team 0. after footBall it was time for an icy edition of Bulldog. i had planned to play Bulldog with the flags(we played flag footBall)but drew as the sergeant used his power of veto and informed us that flag Bulldog was not going to happen. Bulldog in the snow is fun to watch, lot's of slipping and sliding.(the fonz ended up flat on his face) after many rounds(the Bulldog is at a major disadvantage)Big chris won his first ever Bulldog, chris' momentum was almost impossiBle to stop on the snow. congratulations chris! this was a long time coming! the night had started with ted working the BBq, we had 70 Burgers(you never know, it is possible that we could have eaten that many, i guess we needed the help of the alumni), 6 pounds of Bacon, 5 Boxes of mug rootBeer(can't find Barq's anymore and Besides mug has a Bulldog on the can) and one Big Block of cheese(Bruce are you there?). the Bacon and cheese were gone Before i had a Burger and the rootBeer was gone Before the end of the night. crokinole and Blokus were played all night with ted giving charlie a lesson in humility at the crokinole table. another one in the Books, and i can't wait till next year!

This big dude just wanted to remind you that it is the three b's this week at Battalion. Ya I know there are only two b's on his hat and shirt, but are you going to tell him that he should have three b's instead of two?
See you at the B's!

THE THREE B's

Little did we know when we started the three b's that it would become a permanent part of Battalion. The gym is busy for the month of December so we needed to either quit a week early(Battalion and quit do not belong in the same sentence) or do something different. Good luck finding a gym that is available in December, so we started the three b's. What are the three b's you ask? Burgers, bacon, beans, Barq's and Bulldog in the parking lot. There are Alumni that are home early for Christmas that will be joining us and we will probably play football in the parking lot as well. Good times for sure!
Anyways make sure that you come early and hungry!

BTLN UPDATE

This Btln update brought to you by the letter B. The night started with a game of Bump, and there must have been twenty guys playing. The final four were Aaron, the Fonz, Ball and Charles. I wondered for a while if I was going to have to stop the game because it looked like it wasn't going to end. Aaron was able to beat the Fonz at the end to take the game. The last murderball of the year(besides Alumni night) was a lot closer than previous weeks.(just the way that I like it)In the final game my team was down to it's last three guys and we made the come back for the win.(and as Uncle Tim always says "Ye who wins last wins best") In the Bible study we read the Christmas story from Luke 2 and talked about remembering not only Jesus' birth but what he did during his life on earth as well as how he died for our sins.(I found the number 9, it is there I just couldn't see it)

1Timothy 1:15b - Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

The first half started with a win by Sammy (The Impostor, Zombie, the Emperor) at Bulldog and now he has a second win. Way to go Sammy! The Fonz came a close second and Big Jake wasn't far behind for third, it was really close tonight! With one week to go the standings for Winston look like this.

3-Sam Schiesser
2-Drew Brown
2-David Podovinikoff
2-Sammy Jepsen
1-Andrew Eyre
1-Zac Gobbett
1-Stephen Lawrence
1-Spencer Henderson

One week left to go and it is the Three B's so don't forget to come hungry! What are the Three B's you ask? Burgers, Beans, Bacon and Barq's? Ya I know there are four, it isn't the same three every year, it just sounds good.

P-DUB

When we started the P-dub it's purpose was to encourage us from God's word, hopefully it is achieving it's purpose.(Sorry that I have not been more consistent) Just before the football trip I was reading through 2Corinthians when I noticed a couple of verses that would be good to use in the P-dub. I shared these verses with Ben and Jason on the football trip and figured that I would share them here as well.

2 Corinthians 2:12,13 Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said good-by to them and went on to Macedonia.

It is interesting to see how dependent Paul was on his friends. I guess it is no different for us, that's why it's so important to have good friends. I am amazed that even though God opened a door for Paul's ministry he still did not have peace of mind. This brings us to the second passage.

2 Corinthians 7:5-7 For when we came into Macedonia, this body of ours had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn -conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.

What a difference visiting a good friend can make in our lives. For Paul, seeing Titus brought great comfort. But this was not the only thing that comforted Paul. Titus had good news to share about the Corinthian believers. The Corinthian believers were also Paul's friends and hearing good news about them also brought him encouragement. Just one more verse.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Seeing all of the Alumni at the football game was encouraging and I can't wait to see them again at the Alumni night!
