reasons to celebrate

well alumni is finished and the results are in, fifty thumbs up. yup we had 25 guys show which gets me another point as well as Nates team (which was mine) won at murder ball! so that was 2 and the third Dan T went out one of the first times so he did not win bulldog. anyway we got together and started at 7 with 25 guys out! the first pic back from left to right-Lance, Brad, Joel, Cam, Kenny, Calvin, Dalton, Nate, Tim, Justin, Dev, Blake, Owen, Aaron, Bruce, Dan. Front from left to right-Derrick, Mike, Evan, Jer, Jordan, Ryley, Jason, Josh, Ben, Dylan(with son), and Charlie. so ya over 25 guys it was awesome. we played murder ball which was dead even but Nates team coming out ahead one win. after we played hand ball which was pretty intense and the other team won.......hee hee the other team. after we got some pics and then ended with bulldog starting with the Captin in the middle. any guesses on the victor for bulldog? yup thats right Aaron F himself! we ended with the circle and headed to my place for food and hot tub! it turned out to be everything and more! Canucks even won against calgary that night!!! thank you for all the guys that came out especially those who travelled in bad weather (Dan and Nate) to get here!!! it wouldnt have been the same without you! so plan for the same time next year hopefully starts to be a tradition! in other battalion news the battalion blog has reached 2000+ hits since sept 20th! thank you for visiting it so often it couldnt happen without you faithful readers and i know theres a lot of you out there so a big thank you for getting the blog to 2,000! anyway i hope you are having a good holiday and we at the battalion blog want to send out a happy new year to you all!!! later dayz

good times all around

well since i will be heading out for a few days i thought i better get a post done for you all! so the night started out with the guys forming in squads with charlie as our sarg tonight! there was no squad meeting just a Bible study that Joe K got together for us at the end. so we went straight to hand ball (1 for 3). i was placed against Blake which fueled my abition to win even more! it was one intense game if i have ever seen one and i have seen many in my days! it ended up being pretty tight and our team won beating blakes team (2 for 3). after this we needed to burn some more time so we sent Ryley Hep off to hide in the church for sardines! after 5 min or so we headed out thru the church to find him and hide with him! he hid well cause we didnt find him for quite a long time! while we were hunting Lance and Sammy went to get some pizza for the guys! we finally found Ryley hiding under a TV in a cabenet. we then headed to the gym for pizza! after eating we played the ever so popular Bull Dog with Nick starting in the middle! as the story unfolded we got to Kevin H as the victor! atta boy Kev! ill try to get a pic up when i can! the numbers tonight were around 25 to 30 guys getting a point for the world! come on boys get your butts out to battalion!!! anyway the score is now set at world-20 ben-9 well worlds only double now roughly! so it was a great night to end off the 2006 year! dont forget 6:30 battalion alumni night dec 27th! meet at the gym! i hope you all have a very merry christmas and a happy new year! see ya in 2007!

last night of the 2006 year

well guys its the last night of the 2006 season! i expect a pretty good turn out in fact part of my predictions for tonihgt is 1. turn out of 40 guys and leaders! 2. blakes team will lose but not by much! and 3. we will be playing hand ball! so by the predictions you can prolly tell that blake chursinoff will be joining us as well as Joe Kraftchick and Ryley Heppner! im not sure but Calvin Peters and Kenny Johnson may be making an appearance as well! so its a pre alumni party! anyway 7:00 at the gospel chapel gym (same as usual) for 2006 good times! in other news the alumni party for dec 27th (open for all grade 11 and 12's and of course alumni) has bad news! as you know we will be meeting at the church for games and then back to my place for food but now there will be no hot tub! sorry but it was out of our control the hot tub will not be working by that time! so anyway keep it real spread the word for the last battalion of 2006! later dayz

Nick D takes the cake! (actually the helmet)

the one on the right is our very own Nick Deboeck who adds to the list of men who have won the helmet for bulldog! yup it was a low but great night at the second last night of battalion for 2006! things started off with Mike Trainer as our sarg since Jason H was gone for b ball. we split up into two groups for the squad meetings since numbers were a bit low. the bible study was based around the story of the rich man going to hades and the poor man (lazarus?) going to paradice. we then headed to the gym and voted on either sardines or murder ball and murder ball won by 2 votes! so we had 10 on 10 murder ball and i was with Lance! i was trying my best trust me! we lost 6-0. ya a slaughter if i have ever saw one! Lance recapped on the squad meeting and had a message (or is it mesage? i think its message) on how we need to know where we are going and once we do we need to make sure that we tell our family and friends cause it would be horrible to see them go to a place worse then hades! (forgive my spelling). we ended er off with bulldog as usual and we had drew brown start in the middle! he may be short but he packs a wallup!! it came down to a few grade 12's and nick. nick came thru to win the helmet! congrats man i knew you would pull thru! yes it was one heck of a night! now lets bring up the scores we have one point for the world since kerri didnt have a baby tonight (not that i know anyway) a point for ben since i guessed right on the bible study being taken from Luke and another point for ben since i guessed right on Lance getting slaughtered.........sometimes i hate it when im right. i also want to tell you i was trying hard and my pride counts more then points trust me! i also want to tell you that i make predictions on the spot when i blog i do not call anyone or ask lance what he will be speaking about that night! even ask Lance i never talk to him about predictions! anyway the final score is world-19 ben-7. hey im making some ground! anyway all in all it was a great night full of laughs and gags............kinda. alumni party dec 27th 6:30 Gospel Chapel Gym spread the word like wild fire! later dayz
-bent
P.S. Sammy Jepsen is the evil emperor and is trying to take over the world with his powers!

Tis the season

hee hee man i love calvin and hobbes! anyway i liked my last post so i kept it up until now and man it sure got some reaction! maybe not the reaction i was really looking for but i hope you now know who is responsible for brigade! anyway tonight is battalion so no we have not shut down for christmas yet! tonight should be a typical night (which is an oxymoron if you think about it). so i think the score is world-18 and ben-5 so i meen thats not toooooooOOOoooOOoooOO bad! anyway tonights predictions are as follows- 1. tonights Bible study will be taken from the book of luke and ephesians........just a feeling. 2. Jer will be gone because his wife will give brith tonight.........just a feeling. and finally 3. Lance Martens team will lose horribly tonight at the game we play.........not a feeling a fact. so there ya have it! will ben be up to 8 after tonight? i guess we will have to wait and see!!!!! so i hope you all come out for battalion tonight i think it may be the last night but dont quote me on that! dont forget that all grade 11, 12 and alumni from battalion are invited for good times dec 27th 6:30 at the gym and then bens house for food and hot tub!!! so tell any alumni and get some guys out for the night! later dayz and happy holidays!

Lets not forget (a dedication to the shepherd and his sheep)

God is the reason why we do what we do! its good to look at the people God has put into place to fulfill his will. it was Gods will for battalion to take place wed nights in Grand Forks B.C. and he started it all with a man named Joe Coughlin.
Sometimes to know where we are going we have to look at where we have been! i think thats from some movie and its kinda korney but i just wanted to remind ya of some brigade history.
In 1937, Joe Coughlin, a college student teaching a Sunday School class of boys in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, started a weekly club program in order to challenge his restless pupils. It wasn't an unusual idea, but Joe wasn't an ordinary Sunday School teacher. He was a young man with a vivid imagination and a burning zeal to serve Christ.

Coughlin dreamed on a grand scale: his Sunday School class of boys could become the nucleus of an army of Christian young men marching for the cause of Christ. The movement grew, molding thousands of boys into mature men of Christ.
Joe Coughlin had a dream and followed thru with it! with his passions and Gods help he started what we call Christian Service Brigade which we attend Wed nights (battalion) and thurs night (stockade). Because of this man and Lance Martens we get to meet wed nights and have a great time. It would be weird to think that wed nights would be filled with nothing! just think missing out on all the great things we do at brigade because Joe didnt follow his dream for something bigger! a world without battalion would be a sad thing, a world without Joe Coughlin would be a tragedy.
Joe is no longer alive but theres more about him at the brigade web site http://www.csbministries.org/coughlin_bio.html i challenge you to look it up!

good times with the root

so great night wed night with the three b's! Ted came in with his fine cooking skills and made us some sausage along with some kicking sourcrot! we also had lots of barqs with beans and bacon! and on the side you ask? well ill tell you! we had apple sauce!!! ya some good stuff! also for those playing crokinole there was chips and some sweet Martens dip! yes we were stuffed! but after eating like nothing else we went out for some football by popular demand! Lances team- 2 Jers team- 0 ya not so good since i was on jers team! we played in the back well technically the front of the church in the parking lot with snow and ice. after football we played british bulldog in the snow with Sam S and Lance M in the middle! and it came down to scubba steve and bad bad leeroy brown!!! (who left his bible at the church by the way) and though niether made it to the other side Drew came out as the victor!!! way to go man! after football we got some dessert from my dad Bruce! needless to say the cinnamon twists went quick! we ended the night with more crokinole, Jers battalion board game and creation fest DVD to give ya a taste of what you have been missing by not doing the memory work!!! (ill talk more about it later). so im pretty sure i covered everything now. next week normal night back in the gym for 3 weeks i believe before christmas maybe 2 im not sure. by the way go stop by at blakes blog to vote for the battalion blog!!! anyway have a great weekend and dont forget the alumni party dec 27th grade 11's and 12's welcome! keep it real!

B is for Battalion

well boys and ..........men the three b's night is coming! thats right tomorrow night december 6th 7 oclock we will be gathering together for food and fun! make sure your there and dont miss it! also if you want to dress up i will not stop you, if you dont want to dress up i wont stop you, and finally if you do not want to dress at all i will stop you!!! so some early thoughts! first off its wrold-13 ben-5 i think anyway. so i predict that our captin Lance Martens will down 5 meno sausage! second i predict that Taylor W will win more crokinole games then anyone else, and finally Jeremy Martens will down 6 cans of barqs!!! ha ha o man i cant wait to see what will happen! so ya 7 oclock in the fireside room come in thru the kitchen if you want! in other battalion news Ben Jepsen has posted more battalion pics as well as other pics on the picasa web page thanks to Tim Feenstra who supplied all the wrestling pics. there is a link on the right side of the web site for the pics! www.picasaweb.google.com/radio16777 go check it out! anyway i think thats everything dont forget alumni party dec 27th! later dayz

The Three B's

aight so next up on the Battalion schdule is the ever so popular Three B's night!!! next week the dog pound (gym) is being used by the church for the adult christmas banquet preperation so we are out but just of the gym. we will still meet next week and you can come thru the kitchen as always and we will meet together for food and fun in the fireside room! so what are the three B's you ask? well ill try to tell you! we got Barqs, Beans, and Bacon! though im not sure if we are having bacon this year for the main course is M Suasage! so if its not bacon you can replace it with ben or(foot)ball or something like that! ;) anyway come by same time and get ready for food but also dont be afraid to dress up! as well ive heard rumour of Joel Feenstra running some out door snow foot ball! so dress warm so we can go out and throw the ol pig skin! so i guess you can count this as our christmas party but it isnt our last night thats for sure! so get ready for some food and fun this week! also in other battalion news the 27th of dec is a alumni party for guys out of battalion so please email me or let me know if you are able to make it out for that! keep it real guys!

But theres hope for this underdog

well another great night at battalion! first off i want to say that 2 of my 3 predictions came true making the score world-13 ben-5 so im coming back! it snowed while we were at battlion and lance brought burgers for guys who brought their bibles so i got 2 for the night! we had a bible study on humility which was awesome! we played some football cause numbers were a bit lower than usual and joels team which i was on as well lost badly with the help of some injuries! Jason missed out last night so Charlie Langis took over as sarg and did a mighty fine job at it! anyway once we got to bulldog since cam was gone as well Jason (who showed at the end), Mike, and Jeol went into the middle for a grade 12 power house! it went pretty fast to begin with but slowed down at the end. Sam Schiesser went thru think and thin to get to the end and made it to win the helmet (hence the underdog)!!! and after he won he went another round with me owen and dalton which was huge! yesseree it was one crazy night thats for sure! Lance also declared that next week we will be having a party (kinda christmas party if you will) in the fire side room next week cause we are kicked out of the gym! so dont forget that for next week ill post more details for that later this week(the three B's night). keep it real guys remember to try humility this week whenever you can! later dayz

closing in before christmas

well we are closing down to some final battalion nights before christmas! tonight is the week after the olympics with cam thompson in first Charlie langis in second and Dev Chursinoff in third good work boys. so as i was saying tonight is a normal night (which is an understatement if you think about it). and i expect to see good things for the night. things like fun, pain, and most important Bible studies. im going to go out on a limb and predict that whoever is on Joel feenstras team tonight will win the game we play tonight. i also predect awards for bringing your bibles tonight so make sure you bring em and finally i predict snow to fall as we are in the gym tonight. so to bring you up to speed the score is world 12 ben 3. dont worry ill make a comeback!!! by the way thanks to all who voted for the battalion blog on blakes blog for best blog! last i checked battalion held 44% of the votes! unfortuanatly my other blog www.screamersandgummyworms.blogspot.com has only 5% of the votes! give me a break im trying to run two blogs here! anyway same BATT(alion) time same BATT(alion) place hope to see all of you there!

the oylimpics are here!

well the big day is here! only hours away from the biggest night in battalion!!! (according to me anyway). so many rumours of who will win and so many possabilities!! will it be Charlie Langis who has the heart of a lion and who has been only one step behind Ben Jepsen the last 2 seasons, or maybe it will be Jason Hayashi who has the speed of a tiger and only a step behind Charlie this last season! others think that Mike trainer will be the victor with arms of steel and a stomach like a washboard!!! will Jordan Walsh walk away with the trophy with his cannon arm and sniper hands, possibly Joel Feenstra with mad box hockey skills and brains only bill nye the scince guy can compete with! and lets not forget about Evan Pod who is here and he means buisness! there has also been talk of yet another grade 11 victor which has happened 5 times before! garde 11 competators are Devin Chursinoff with great b ball skills and some made accuracy in the football toss! and of course Cam Thompson whos quick moves on the court and box hockey will make you pass out!! yesseree bob its going to be a showdown to be remembered. rumour that ben jepsen who has yet again annouced his retirment from another battalion event the olympics will show up to congradulate the winner of the 2006 olympics! Heres a quote from Ben in the "bulldog news". "if you want to be a winner in the olympics you cant be good at just one thing you gotta make your rounds! being first in one event wont help you get that trophy heck people have won without even being first in any event! if you want to win you have to be constantly moving and placing in the top three if not two in every triangle! never stop moving if you have to wait try to do something else instead!! one event that many people stay away from is box hockey you gotta get in there and just get up a bit in box hockey cause most guys will be young that climb to the top of that triangle! anyway best of luck to all who compete in the 2006 battalion olympics!" so there ya have it wisdom passed on from a ol battalion vet! anyway i hope there is a huge turn out for this massive event! remember to come early so things can start! best of luck to you all and ill see you tonight!

Olympics under way

well what i think is the best event held at battalion is coming up this wed night at battalion!!!! i love the olympics cause it gives everyone a chance! though its an advantage to be bigger! anyway as my memory serves me (since the trophy is no longer with me) the last winners have been (in no order) Courtney Frieson(2), Aaron Frieson(2), Derick Taylor(2), Justin Thompson(1), Justin Becker(2), Dan Neufeld(1), and Ben Jepsen(2) i could be wrong but i think im close anyway. so as we learn the youngest anyone has ever won is grade 11 which gives some guys a hope in battalion! im thinking Dev Chursinoff who is in grade 11 as well as Cam thompson who is in grade 11 have a fighting chance. though to win it in grade 11 takes a lot of work esspecially against tuff grade 12 competition like Jason hayashi(third last year), Charlie Langis(second last year), Jordan Walsh, Mike Trainer, Joel feenstra, and Evan Pod. yup it can be anyones trophy thats for sure. i will once again not tell you who i think will place in top three due to jynxing people! but with this very tight Battalion Olympics it should make for one of the best Olympics to date! good luck to you all i cant wait to see the out come.

early thoughts

Well Wed night is on its way and i thought i would let ya know what i thought! last week we had Lance get some blood on his face from mike (punch to the face lol) and then i bent (har har) all four fingers back on mikes shoulder hurt real bad and i still feel it a week later! Cam Thompson won the helmet for british bulldog! and I won for the first time in murder ball!!! Lance brought us burgers for having our Bibles which was so cool! it gives me a point in the predictions which brings the race 9 world 3 ben and no one can argue cause i run this blog! some of us guys played floor hockey at the church on sunday which was wicked awesome! and i hope to do it again! this wed i predict Dave K to do something crazy (should be good for that one), Mike Trainer will get hurt (ha ha ha its coming man), and Nick D will get a ball to the crotch! so there ya have it! anyway i hope all is well guys and any girls that read this. keep it real
