11TH ANNUAL BTLN ALUMNI NIGHT

Alumni Night is always special, and this year did not disappoint! This year it was Aaron Friesen's turn to receive his Sergeant Jersey! It is fitting that Aaron's number would be 99. (One of the greatest for sure!) Aaron was the 12th Sergeant of Battalion 3739 back in the 1998/99 Btln Season. Aaron was the 18th Sergeant to receive his Jersey in our  "One forward and one back" Sergeant Jersey program! Congrats Aaron!

We also added three names to the Btln Ring of Honour. This year we added the grads from 2003. Devan England, Joe Kraftchick and Owen Spisak were all added to the Ring of Honour! Devan and Joe were not able to attend, but Owen was able to make the trip from Kelowna! I just love adding names to the list and these three are very worthy candidates! Congrats to Devan, Joe and Owen! We are all very proud of you!

As in the past, we played Murderball. Jeremy's team was mostly loaded with the younger guys and my team had the older crowd. At the beginning, Jeremy's team was very strong, winning the first two games to take a 2-0 lead. My team battled back to take the next three, giving us the 3-2 edge! We traded wins in the next two games, giving my team the 4-3 victory and bragging rights for the next year!

Tyson started in the middle for Bulldog, keeping another Alumni tradition alive. The current Sergeant is usually the one that starts in the middle for Alumni Bulldog. Kenny was our winner last year, and he was in the final three again this year, threatening to go back to back! Justin Bekker and Derek were in the final three with Kenny, and were not about to let Kenny set a new Alumni record. On the final round, both Kenny and Justin went down, giving Derek the win! Congrats Derek!

We finished the night visiting in the Youth room for about three hours! It was so good to watch the guys sharing stories and laughing together! I can't wait until next year!

Thanks to everyone that came out to Alumni Night!

BTLN UPDATE - THE THREE B'S

Congrats JakoB! This was JakoB's second Helmet of the Btln season! The final three were JakoB, Kaylon and Josh. JakoB Blew By everyone on the last round to take the Helmet and the win! Bulldog is very different when the gym is full, so many Bodies flying around! It was amazing!

Do not adjust your set, everyone really is wearing a green shirt! (I think I just dated myself.) Yes, Btln 3739 has it's first Christmas shirt! This is not something that we are going to do every year, probably only once in a Btln generation. I wasn't sure what the guys would think of these, But they were a Big hit! I would love to Be a fly on the wall in the high school tomorrow!

In the last few years the Three B's has Become one of the Biggest nights of the Btln year. I love that the Btln Christmas party has Become such a Big event. This year there were 49 guys at the Three B's! The guys devoured 10 large Battalion Baconator pizzas, 60 cans of Barq's rootBeer, over 100 Bonuts and a huge pot of Beans!

We played three games of MurderBall. My team won the first two games fairly easy, so we gave Devin to Ben's team. After the trade, the tide turned. Ben's team won the third game, but we were out of time. My team winning 2-1!

Thanks to my mom for making the Bonuts! Thanks also to Ted for making the Beanpot!

Special thanks to Ryley, Ben and Devin who have helped out so much in the First Half of the Btln year! We could not have Btln without you!

The Second Half of the Btln year begins on January 11, 2017!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Alex! This was Alex's first Helmet ever! It is so much fun watching the reaction of a first time Helmet winner. The rest of the guys were so happy for Alex, it was a moment that I won't forget for a long time. The brotherhood at Btln is amazing! Keegan was running over and through guys, but was unable to outlast Alex. All Bulldog is fun, but this week was exceptional.

This week we played Handball. I tried to make teams by dividing the boys into North and South Grand Forks. (North or South of the Highway) The South badly outnumbered the North, forcing me to make teams the old way. (I am definitely going to try this again. Maybe at the Three B's?) We played Handball for around fifteen minutes before we restarted and went to "first team to score three times". Keegan scored first for Devin's team, Mike added a second for Devin's team making the score 2-0. My team got one, but shortly after Keegan got the winner giving Devin's team the 3-1 win! (Keegan was dominating all night!)

This week we had the awesome privilege of listening to Ryley give the Bible study!

Matthew 4:18-22   As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Mark 2:14   As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.

John 1:43   The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Ryley pointed out that Jesus' instruction to the disciples and to us is that we need to follow him(Jesus). Part of following Jesus would include fishing for people. (Sharing the Gospel with everyone that we come into contact with.) Ryley made it clear that it is not possible to follow more than one person. We cannot follow Jesus and someone else that is going in a different direction. The way that Jesus asks us to live is completely different than the way the world is telling us to live. Lastly, Ryley talked about the cost of following Jesus. The disciples were willing give up their jobs and leave their families in order to follow Jesus. The disciples were willing to give up everything.

Matthew 16:25   For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.

The amazing thing is, that in giving up their lives, the disciples were gaining a better life!

It is the Three B's next week! (Btln Christmas Party)
