BTLN UPDATE - LAST NIGHT

I love how Battalion ends with a bang, Last Night is always an amazing night. Forty-Seven guys showed up to play Murderball eat a party sub and then some B-dog. The night started with Murderball and my team got slaughtered, we kept adding guys to our team but it didn't help. The final score was 7-1?(Lost track of the score.) Next it was time to partake of the nine foot party sub. While the guys ate the sub the grads were called up to receive their Bibles. We gave Kevin, Drew, Steve and d-Pod each a piece of paper with the motto written on it(Which they ate) and their Bibles. Never get tired of handing out the Bibles.(We also gave the grads a Btln dog tag with their names engraved on the back.)
After the Grad presentations Bulldog was on the agenda. The Bulldog was intense with all of the Alumni and after the dust had cleared Zac had his third Helmet win of the year. Drew had already clinched Winston at The Masters but we didn't have the ceremony until we completed the 08/09 Btln season.
The night was over for the young guys but the older guys piled into a few vehicles and headed over to Castlegar for Boston Pizza! I think that there were twenty-four of us, it was awesome. Only problem was that there were so many guys that you couldn't visit with everyone.(Good problem!)
Once we arrive at B.P. it is tradition to give the grads their Btln Medallions. The problem was Aaron left the Ark in Grand Forks!(Not that Aaron, Aaron Friesen!) (Different Aaron, different Ark.) Anyways it was no big deal, Steve and Kevin got their Medallions when we got back to Grand Forks. At one point Ryley and Dalton talked Nathan into snorting chili seeds for twelve dollars, one of the funniest things I have seen! Nathan actually did it, not worth the pain for only twelve dollars! Love the road trip on Last Night cause otherwise the night would be over to quick, and as most of you know I love road trips.
The night was almost perfect, the focus is on the grads, but there are also the new recruits from Stockade and all the other guys that are faithful all year. I say almost perfect because everyone can't always make it to Last Night. It's weird not to have guys like Bent, Jason and Joe around, but that's life.

In case you are wondering Battalion isn't really over, May 15-18 is The May Long Camp out, in June we are thinking about doing a raft race and in July we will be going to Creationfest.

SALUTE TO THE BTLN GRADS!

Can't believe that it is time to say goodbye again. Thanks to Drew, Steven, Kevin and d-Pod for a great year at Battalion! You guys set the tone for everyone else, and you did a great job! It seems like these guys have been around forever, you guys will be missed! Hopefully a couple of the grads will be back next year to help out! You are now Alumni and are always welcome to show up to Battalion!

2Timothy 2:1-3 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

Check out the top picture, the grads were in grade eight.

BTLN FOOD

Our week long salute to "Last Night" continues here on the blog, this time it's the food! As Bent wrote in the Btln top ten "It is possible that you could live off of the food at Battalion." With this thought in mind it is going to be a while until there is Battalion food again so.... kinda like a bear going into hibernation we need to eat a little more to store up until the May Long.(I guess that's why we eat so much at the May Long) The nine foot party sub has been ordered, and no matter who you are nine feet of party sub is impressive. Two more days, can't wait!

BTLN BIBLES

Eight years ago we started handing out Bibles to our Btln 3739 grads. As far as Btln traditions goes this is probably my favourite.(Ya I know, I have a lot of favourites when it comes to Btln traditions.) Our goal at Battalion is to help equip the guys with a knowledge of God's Word. The grads have helped to equip the rest of the guys at Battalion, so to thank the grads for their service to Battalion we give them a Bible. Thank you grads!

You know when you are off on a retreat of some sort and you have a duty to post on a blog at a specific time on a specific day but there are no computers any where near you so you post any ways hoping no one will notice thats the walk of life

BTLN 3739 MOTTO

There is Hebrew writing on the backs of the last five Btln shirts, this is a saying that the Alumni picked just over five years ago. There were a couple of different sayings that we voted on, Joe translated both of them with a translator that he found on the internet. Once we decided on the saying we also decided that you would have to be in grade twelve to find out what the saying actually meant. The saying would be written on a piece of paper and after it was read it was to be eaten so that no one else would be able to read it.(The first year it was written with a Jiffy marker.) This tradition is to be held every year on Last Night. The reason that the saying is now written on a Btln Medallion is because the grads also receive a Medallion on the same night. (Unless they have done the Memory Work and have already received their Medallion.) This is one of the many things that we will be doing on Wednesday night. Can't wait!

BTLN UPDATE

For the second time in three weeks Cody Harp has taken the Helmet! What a way to end the year for Cody! This week was the last football of the year and after a couple of weeks of practice the quality of football was better this week. Jeremy's team jumped out to a 3-1 touchdown lead thanks to touchdowns by Drew,(Drew intercepted one of my passes and ran it back for a touchdown)Chris(Chris had a 50 yard run for a touchdown)and Owen(I think it was Owen.). My team stormed back with touchdowns by Jordon(Sweet catch over d-Pod.)The Fonz(Again I think it was The Fonz.)and Dan D(Dandy tied the game.). Now with the game tied we went to overtime. On Jeremy's first down The Fonz intercepted the pass to give us the upper hand. Next it was our turn, and on second down it was a pass to Samuel Jepsen for a touchdown that clinched the game!
Back at the church it was Bible study time. Blake shared his testimony, talked about the camp(The Pines) and the need for us all to be involved in God's work somewhere. Just wanted to let all of the guys know that all of the leaders at Btln 3739 totally supports the Pines, and we would like to see everyone from Battalion spend at least one week up at the Pines this summer!(If money is a problem let us know, we can help.)
Next week is Last Night so make sure that you come out. There will be a nine foot party sub from Subway and Boston Pizza after the night is over for those grade eleven and older!

THE BTLN GAME BALL

The last three years we have handed out the game ball to the grade twelve that makes the biggest play in the last football game of the year. The first year Dalton made a big catch to help his team win the final game. Two years ago Jordon intercepted one of my passes and ran it back for a touchdown for the win. Funny thing I'm not sure who got the game ball last year. Let me know if you remember who won last year. Who will win it this year? Will it be d-Pod, Steve, Drew or Kevin?

The Walk Of Life

You know when you go on a shell run with the guys and you are in the mood for a slushi so you go serve yourself one and take a huge sip out of it and when you get to the counter you realize you have no money so you and the cashier just stare at each other awkwardly until one of your friends pays for it or they just let you go that is the walk of life.

BTLN BACONATOR REVIEW

Jeremy phoned the Twisted Tomato and the owner told him that they now had all of the ingrediants for the Baconator. So we ordered one up and did a little taste testing, below are the results. (I wanted to take a picture of the Baconator so that you could see what one looked like, but ...... you know what happened.)

Jeremy said - "Huh, huh, huhhhhh.....Baconator." (Insert noise that Homer Simpson Makes when he sees food)

The Mill Lake Fisherman said - "That's finger licking good."

Abe said - "It's too greasy."

The Captain said - "I've been burping it up all day and it's just as good the second time."

Tim said - "Mmmmmmmm.......;)"

I know that I'm biased, but that was one of the best pizzas that I have ever tasted.

DREW TAKES THE GREEN JACKET!

So we met at the church, piled into a bunch of vehicles and headed out to the golf course. Once we arrived at the course it was time to make our way over to the practise green for the putting contest. The final two in the putting contest were Sammy J. and Jake, with Sammy almost holing out the final putt to take the contest. After the putting contest we broke into nine groups and headed out onto the course for a night of golf, The Btln Masters. After an hour and a half the horn blew and it was time to tally the scores. A couple of the groups were not able to get all of the holes in, but a winner was found and Drew had his first Btln Masters and his second Btln Major of the year. With the win Drew now has five Helmets on the year and has clinched Winston for the second year in a row! Congratulations Drew!

THE BATTALION MASTERS

It is The Masters this week at Battalion! For those of you that don't know Btln 3739 is going out to Cascade Par 3 to play some night golf. There are glow sticks in the balls, on the flag poles and in the holes, it is a lot of fun. Anyways we will meet at the church and try to leave around 7:00 P.M. for the golf course. There is a ten dollar green fee, if you cannot afford it come out anyways we will help you out. (Bring clubs if you have them.) Parents can pick you up between 9:30 and 10:00 P.M. at the church.
Green Jacket to the winner! Will Parker repeat as Champion? Or will someone else win?
Don't forget there is also a leaders tournament!(Jeremy is the defending champion)

TRAINER

It is awesome to watch the guys from The Btln Alumni grow up and make careers for themselves. It is interesting to see the different direction that they all go in. There are just about as many careers represented as there are guys in The Btln Alumni. Mike is a cowboy/rancher and he recently bought himself a new saddle and had a plate put on it. Mike had his initials and BTLN 3739 engraved on the plate. Amazing isn't it? Love it when the Alumni represent! A couple of passages come to mind.

1Thessalonians 4:11,12 - Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Colossians 3:23,24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
