BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Josh! Josh was second last week and this week he has the Helmet! Back to back final two finishes for Josh!

Our game of the week was Handball. Playing Handball without the lines on the gym floor is a challenge. This week we tried playing with a triangle key to make it easier and quicker to set up for the game. We played without a defenseman in the key because the triangle key was smaller. When the game was tied at 11 we went to next goal wins, and my team got the winner taking the game 12-11!

In Bible Study we looked at God's Availability.

In the Story that we looked at, Elijah was making fun of the baal and the prophets of baal. Elijah basically told the prophets of baal that baal was unavailable. This should have been obvious, since baal was nothing more than a statue. (1 Kings 18:16-39)
However, the God of the Bible is always available to us! We can pray to God anytime. We can also read and study the Bible whenever we want to and God will always be ready to give us incite into what we are reading.

Psalm 121:1-4
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

Isaiah 40:28
Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

We have a God that doesn't sleep or get tired, he is always available!

Psalm 139:7-10
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

Psalm 34:17
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.

We have a God that always hears us and is everywhere!

BTLN UPDATE - FIRST NIGHT

Congrats Deshawn! Deshawn has the first Helmet of the 2018/19 Btln season! Josh was there at the end with Deshawn, but was not able to gain as much yardage as Deshawn on the last round.

I'm not sure if we have ever played anything other than Murderball on First Night and this year was not any different! After five rounds the score was tied at two games a piece. My team won the final game winning the series 3-2! I love winning, and winning on First Night is even better.

In Bible Study we started the year with a study on Hope. I want Battalion to be a place where we can all come to find Hope!

1 Peter 1:3-4   Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,

We have a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead! But what is our hope?

Colossians 1:26-27   The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Titus 3:4-7   But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

1 Thessalonians 5:8   But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

So the Hope that we have is Salvation from sin, Eternal Life and Christ living in us!

Hebrews 6:17-19   Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

This hope is an anchor for our soul, firm and secure!

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - JULY

July is almost over and I am finally getting the birthday post done for July. I was going to do it earlier in the month, and then I realized that Aaron has his birthday in July. I wasn't sure what to do at first, then I decided that we needed to continue to remember Aaron's birthday. Aaron is no longer with us on earth, but he lives in Heaven with Jesus and all the rest of the Saints that have also died!

Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18   Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

BTLN MEMORY WORK LEGENDS

Congrats to Luke, Jakob, Dolan and Josh! All four completed the Memory Work! After Creation Fest 2018 was canceled, Btln 3739 had to find a different venue for our Memory Work Trip. We decided to try Silverwood, and it did not disappoint! The weather did not cooperate, but with the rain we were able to ride more roller coasters than if it had been sunny out. We rode each coaster three times, it was amazing! We ate at Applebee's, Outback's and Five Guys, it was some of the best food we have ever had on the Btln Memory Work Trip!

Luke has tied Maxwell Nicholson with a perfect six out of six years completing the Memory Work! We here at blog salute you Luke! Great work!

33 Btln Members have completed the Memory Work a combined 89 times! I am so proud of everyone that has completed the Memory Work!

BTLN UPDATE - LAST NIGHT OF 2018

This was the thirteenth year in a row for the year end Btln "Last Night"/ Grad party! 53 guys showed up for the "Last Night" of 2018! We started the night with the Btln favourite, Murderball! Last year we played four games and the year before we played five. This year we only managed to fit in three games because the games were longer and more competitive. This year my team lost the first game, but came back to win the final two games to win the series 2-1!

After Murderball it was time to eat the nine foot party sub from Subway! It is amazing how fast all that food can disappear! In a little more than ten minutes the entire sub was gone! Last year I forgot the cookies in the bus, this year we handed them out with the sub.

Next we had the Btln Grad ceremony. This year we set a record for the most Grads at a Btln Last Night! There were fourteen Grads for 2018! Our previous record was eight Grads back in 2014. There were so many Grads that I was not prepared for them all! I had twelve Bibles and fourteen Grads! The Grads received their Bibles and a dog tag. It is always a privilege to give the Grads their Bibles! We also gave them a piece of paper with the English translation of the Hebrew writing that is on the back of our shirts! Keeping with Btln tradition, the Grads ate the piece of paper after reading the translation.

We took the group picture and then it was time for Bulldog! There isn't anything quit like Bulldog on "Last Night". So many guys and so much extra energy! Keegan was our final Helmet winner of the 2017/18 Btln Season! Congrats Keegan!

For the second year in a row Jakob Boschmann is the Winston Champion! Jakob is the second two time Winston Champion! (Drew Brown was the Winston Champion in 2008 and 2009) Congrats Jakob! You are a worthy Champion!

After closing the year with the Brigade Watchword the grade 11's and 12's went to the Station for the After Party! This year we had 31 guys at the After Party! The energy in the room was awesome! It was so good to see all the guys having such an amazing time!

During the After Party the Grads received their Btln Medallion. It is so much fun to watch the guys pick out their Medallion. Welcome to the world of gentlemen, gentlemen.

Thanks to all of the Alumni that came out to "Last Night"!

Special thanks to the leaders that helped out all year long!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Caleb! This was Caleb's first Bulldog win ever! Caleb has won the Belly Flop Competition two years in a row, so this is his third Helmet of all time! So happy for you Caleb!

With the weather being so unpredictable we moved back to the gym instead of being at the field. So we moved "Pop n Dogs" to the church and we played G*I*T*D Basketball instead of football at the field. When the lights first go out it takes a while for everyone's eyes to adjust to the dark with the gitd Basketballs and glow sticks. At the end we finished the game with first team to five. My team getting destroyed 5-1! The final Basket was from over the half! It was super impressive!

In Bible Study our topic was God's pursuit of us.

Romans 5:6-10   You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Christ died for us while we were powerless, ungodly, sinners and his enemies! God did not wait for us to choose him! God chose us first!

1 John 4:19   We love him, because he first loved us.

1 Timothy 1:12-16   I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

Paul's conversion is a perfect example of God pursuing us while we were sinners. (Acts 9:1-6)

It is the 13th Btln Masters on Wednesday, April 18th!

We are meeting at the church at 6:45 p.m. and will be leaving for Cascade Par 3 at 7:00 p.m.

BTLN UPDATE - "POP N DOGS" AND SPRING FOOTBALL

Congrats Alex! This was Alex's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Alex was close so many times this year, he was overdue for his first win. Great job Alex!

Btln Spring Football goes back to the days when Battalion was still at Perley. Spring Football is still one of my favourites. With so many guys and such a big field, scoring is always difficult. This year wasn't any different. My team scored on our first possession, but did not score again for the rest of the game. Dan's team scored on their final possession to tie the score 7-7!
Probably the highlight of the whole football game was the new grade seven Alex intercepting the ball three times! The first interception was offside, but the other two were legit, he was all over the field!

Jakob missed double point night, so he quoted his passage at the field. Jakob said his passage word for word, it was so awesome!

Jakob Boschmann - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

On Tuesday night Lukas messaged me, asking if he could do the Bible Study. I am always excited to see one of the young men lead a Bible Study! This is what Btln is all about!

Lukas read us several passages about God being our stronghold, refuge, shield, fortress, and shelter. It was very encouraging!

Psalm 9:9   The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

Psalm 18:2   The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 28:7-8   The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

Psalm 36:7   How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble

Psalm 91:1-2   Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Next week we are back at the Gym for "Pop n Dogs" and games!
