BTLN UPDATE - 21ST ANNUAL BTLN PING PONG TOURNEY
Congrats to Jakob Boschmann! Jakob is the Btln Ping Pong Champion for the fourth year in a row! (Insert the Andy Mineo song "You can't stop me" right here!) Jakob has now tied Calvin Peters with four consecutive Btln Ping Pong titles! This year Isaac Holitzki joined Jakob in the final. Jakob and Isaac were both very good in the final, pushing each other to play some very entertaining Ping Pong! Congrats to both Jakob and Isaac, it was a classic Ping Pong final!
We had 33 guys competing in the 21st Btln Ping Pong Tourney! This was the second most guys we have ever had at Ping Pong! This year was the first time in twenty years that we had the Ping Pong finals on a Wednesday at Btln. In the past we had the finals on Brigade Sunday. It was so much fun to have forty guys watching and cheering on both competitors! We will definitely be doing that again!
Thanks to all the guys that came out and competed in the 21st Btln Ping Pong Tourney!
Thanks to Ben Jepsen and Noah Makortoff for refereeing the two tables!

BTLN UPDATE - DOUBLE POINT VERSE NIGHT
Congrats Noah! This was Noah's fifth Helmet of the Btln Season! On the last round of Bulldog it was Luke and Noah gunning for the Helmet. Noah outgained Luke, winning the Helmet and increasing his lead in the race for Winston!
In the past we have always had Double Point Verse Night on Brigade Sunday. This year we decided to try something different. Instead of quoting Memory Work in front of parents and other people from the church, we decided to do it on a Wednesday night at Battalion in front of their peers. I was not sure how this would work out, but it was an amazing experience! We will definitely be doing this again! I am so proud of everyone that said a passage! Good work guys!
Noah Makortoff - 2 Timothy 2:1-3
Ben Nicolson - Hebrews 1:3-12
Tyson Tiller - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Jakob Boschmann - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Stephan Kalnin - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Luke Martens - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Josh Martens - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
The game of the week was Murderball! We will only play Murderball one more time this year and that will be on Last Night of Btln! The energy level was high and the guys were playing hard which made for two fantastic games! Both games were long and had several momentum swings in them, making them a lot of fun! My team won both games giving us the 2-0 win! We might have played more, but because we needed more time for the Memory Work and because the games were so long we ended the series after only playing two games.
Ben prepared the squad meetings this week and had us looking at the Jesus' death and resurrection. (Read Matthew 27:32-56)
Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
While we were powerless, ungodly and still sinners Christ died for us! God didn't wait for us to get it together, because we couldn't! God's grace is so amazing!
1 Corinthians 15:3-11 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
1 Timothy 1:15-16 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.
Paul life was a perfect example of how God's grace can change people! Paul persecuted the church of God and even calls himself the worst of sinners! If God can change the "worst of sinners" then he can change you and me!
Thanks to Howard Pike (C.S.B. rep.) for taking time to be with us this Wednesday!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats Dane! This was Dane's first Helmet ever! I love it when one of the guys wins the Helmet for the first time! So exciting! Congrats again Dane!
This week we played Handball for what will probably be the last time this year. When I first saw the teams I was not sure what the game would be like. It was a very close, evenly matched game. Even when Devin arrived late and was added to Ben's team and then traded to mine, the game remained close throughout. With the score tied at 16 we went to overtime, Ben's team scoring the last goal and taking the win!
In Bible study our topic was love the brotherhood.
Romans 12:10-13 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
These passages tell us that we need to love and encourage all men, especially those that belong to the family of God!
Romans 12:4-5 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
If we are one body in Christ, then we desperately need Christ and each other. Not one part of the body can survive on its own, and neither can we!
Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
This last passage summarizes what we were trying to learn. We need to spend more time together so that we can encourage each other to love and serve God!

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - FEBRUARY
Good thing that February has 29 days this year or this Birthday post would be late! So many Btln Legends having birthdays this month! Last year in February we had a passage about love, it just seems like the right thing to do!
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!
HARRY TOURNEMILLE - February 2
DYLAN WARWARUK - February 2
ANDREW NEUFELD - February 6
DESHAWN DENNIS - February 11

BTLN UPDATE - S*A*M NIGHT
Congrats Jakob! This was Jakob's second Helmet of the Btln Season! At the end, Stephan and Dane were there with Jakob, but were unable to break through the crowd on the last round!
This week was S*A*M Night! There is a lot of setup for S*A*M that has to be done at the last minute, that makes it hard to plan for, but it is totally worth it! S*A*M is a lot of fun to play and to watch! After all of the set up it would be nice to play more than three games, but time is always a factor. Dan's team was too strong the first game, winning easily. In the second game I moved onto Ben's team hoping to even out the teams. Dan's team was still too strong winning the second game as well. In the third and final game Ben's team battled back to win! Dan's team winning the series 2-1!
In Bible study our topic was Confidence. Last week when we talked about Pride and Humility we came to the conclusion that God hates pride. If we are not supposed to be proud does that mean that we should not have confidence?
Psalm 71:4-5 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.
Proverbs 3:25-26 Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught.
After reading these passages, it is clear that our confidence should come from God, because of what he has done for us!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:1-2 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
1 Corinthians 1:4 I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
Galatians 4:7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Ephesians 2:6-7 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 2:10 And you are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
So then, (1) we have been given eternal life, (2) we have been set free from sin and death, (3) we have been given God's grace, (4) we are a new creation, (5) we are God's children and heirs, (6) we are seated in the heavenly realms, (7) we are complete in him!
These are a small sample of the things that God has done for us through Christ! We can be confident because of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats James! This was James' second Helmet of the Btln Season! It seems like every week James is in the final three in Bulldog. This week he would not be denied the Helmet!
This week we had special guests, Drew and Rik Brown! It is so good to have Alumni surprise us on a Wednesday Night!
Last week we played Mike 23 for the second time this year. This week we played Stickball for the second time this year. It seems as if the guys are starting to get the strategy required to make Stickball fun. Learning to hit the ball so that it ends up in your own quadrant and playing proper defense make the game so much fun. The game still has a few rules that might need to be tweeked, but I think that we have most of the kinks worked out.
STICKBALL Final Scores
Ben's team - 13
Drew's team - 12
Nathan's team - 11
Noah's team - 8
In Bible study our topic this week was Pride and Humility.
Romans 12:16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Proverbs 16:5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
After reading these passages, it is obvious that God hates pride. Why does he find it detestable? When we are proud we are telling God that we don't need his help. The truth is, that we are all in desperate need of God's help.
Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
It is important for us to learn to walk humbly with God. Secondly, we need to show humility to everyone that we come into contact with. What an amazing place this world would be if everyone would learn to live like this!

Congrats to Mitch! This was Mitch's second Helmet of the Season! Phoenix and Stephen were there at the end with Mitch. All three guys were fighting for their second Helmet of the season, but in the end it was Mitch winning the Helmet and the Yorkie!
This week we played Mike 23 for the second time this year. We added 4 new exercise balls, bringing our total number of exercise balls up to 10. There were also 13 Murderballs making it 23 balls. (Hence Mike 23) In one round the scores go up and in the next the scores go down. After six rounds each team's score can range between 20 and negative 20. In the last two rounds, Ben's team pulled away, winning big!
MIKE 23 Final Scores
Dan's team - 1
Noah's team - 2
Lukas' team - 3
Ben's team - 8
In Bible study Ben talked about prayer and godliness.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Everyone is supposed to pray and we are supposed to pray for all people! The thought of praying for all people is overwhelming! This is one reason why we need to pray continually!
1 Timothy 4:7-8 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
1 Timothy 6:11 But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
In order for our prayers to be effective we need to live Godly lives. The question is, what does Godliness look like?
Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
If we would pattern our lives after this last passage we would be living godly lives! Not only will we pray more, but we will also know what to pray for!

Both guys battled hard, but in the end Riley outlasted Caleb to become the Lightweight Champion!

In the Heavyweight Division we also had four bouts in the first round. Like in World Cup Soccer, almost every year there is a group of death. A bout that is full of favourites to win the Belt. This year the group of death included Noah, Mitch, Nathan and Keegan! Three grade twelves and a monster grade ten! In the final bout we ended up with three grade tens and one grade twelve. The final two were Jakob and Dylan, ensuring that a grade ten would be Champion for the first time ever! When we got down to the final two, we went ropes down so that all the guys could watch! It was an epic battle between Jakob and Dylan! Both Jakob and Dylan were in the final of the Lightweight Division last year, with Jakob taking the win. This year it was Dylan's turn to win, only this time it was as the Winterslam Champion! Congrats to both Dylan and Jakob! Both can be very proud!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats Dylan! This was Dylan's second Helmet of the Btln Season! Dylan has been finishing in the top five almost every week! Dylan is becoming a force to be reckoned with!
For our game of the week we played the Btln Trifecta! With three mini quick change games there isn't anytime to get settled into a game! We started with Handball. Devin was determined to soften up the defense and goalie, but Riley and I were not going to put up with that! Early on the game was back and forth, before my team pulled ahead to take the win! Final score was 10-8 for my team! Next we played Murderball. Devin's team took over the momentum, beating us 2-1! The final game of the Trifecta was Fire, Fever, Flood. It came down to Devin for his team and Lukas for my team! Devin started going the wrong way, giving Lukas the edge and the win! My team winning the Trifecta 2-1!
In Bible study we tried to answer the question, "If God is for us, should we fear him"?
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 56:3-4 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
Romans 8:28-32 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
It is clear from these passages that God is for us and that he is the one that we can trust! It is also clear that with God on our side that there is no need to fear others!
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.
Proverbs 16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
2 Corinthians 5:11a Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others.
Obviously it is important to fear God! "The fear of the Lord" gives us wisdom, long life, it helps us avoid evil, brings contentment and compels us to share the Gospel! As Christians we fear God because of who he is (The Creator and Sustainer of everything!) and because of what he has done for us! (Jesus died for our sins!) We do not fear God because of what he is going to do to us!

Noah also holds the first tie breaker with his win at the Royal Rumble. Will Noah add to his lead? Can Nate or Nathan catch Noah? Or will someone else have an amazing second half of the Btln Season? Can't wait to find out! Good luck to all!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats
Phoenix! This was the first time that Phoenix has ever won the Helmet! It is
always fun when one of the guys wins the Helmet for the first time! Luke was
there at the end with Phoenix, but was unable to break through on the last
round.
We hadn't played Murderball at Btln since the Three B's, so we were long overdue! My team easily won the first game, so we gave Dan's team GeRRald. Before the second game my team looked like we were going to be in trouble, but we managed to pull out the win! In the third game Dan's team battled back to take the win! In the fourth and final game, my team finished the night with a win, giving us a 3-1 series win!
In
Bible study this week our title was "Where I Belong".
Ephesians
1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians
2:6-7 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in
the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might
show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in
Christ Jesus.
Colossians
3:1-3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your
hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set
your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life
is now hidden with Christ in God.
The first two passages tell us that we are already blessed and seated in the heavenly realms! The third passage tells us that we should be setting our hearts on things above. If we are blessed and seated in heavenly places then we should think and act as if we are already in heaven.
Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Philippians
2:5-8 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset
as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider
equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to death—even death on a cross!
Not only are we blessed and seated in heaven, we are also citizens of heaven! Jesus had to leave heaven, become a man and die on the cross so that I could become a citizen of heaven! Amazing!
2
Corinthians 5:20-21 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as
though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s
behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so
that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
If
Jesus made us citizens of heaven, then why has he left us on earth? We have been
left on earth to be Christ's ambassadors! Jesus has left us on earth to share
the gospel with others that have not already heard or accepted it!
