BTLN UPDATE

So many good things happening at Btln 3739 lately that it is hard to keep up with it all! Congrats to Max on his third Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln Season! Will anyone be able to stop Max this year? Last year GeRRald won Winston with three Helmets and Max is already at three!

Thanks to Bruce Jepsen for providing us with Btln towels! What a score and a surprise! We gave the towels out free to the guys that had registered. Bruce, we here at the blog salute you! (I think that Bruce has possibly started a new tradition.)

For only the second time in six weeks we played Murderball! We used to play every second week but times have changed and so has Btln. Anyways, we played four or five rounds and my team got beat every time! Still loved it though! Win or lose I could play Murderball every week!

This week in Bible study we looked at what "The man of God will do". We used Proverbs as our guide.

Proverbs 11:12  Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Proverbs 12:16  Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult.

Proverbs 13:5  The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.

Proverbs 13:22  A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Proverbs 14:16  The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.

Proverbs 29:11  Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.

A Godly man will fear the Lord, love the Truth, provide for his family and will control his tongue and anger. Later we looked at the qualifications for an overseer (Godly man) in 1 Timothy.

1 Timothy 3:1-4  Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer (Godly man) desires a noble task. Now the overseer (Godly man) is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.

With God's help we can be a Godly man like the overseer in this passage in 1 Timothy and then we will be useful to God!

2 Timothy 2:20-21  In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

BTLN MEDALLIONS!

Battalion 3739 would like to thank Nichols Portland for supplying us with over 600 Btln Medallions! I emailed Nichols Portland asking them if I could purchase a few Gerotors so that we could use them as Btln Medallions. The staff at Nichols Portland were so excited that we were using gerotors as Btln Medallions that they decided to give us the Medallions for free!

Nichols Portland, we at Battalion 3739 salute you!

I have posted the emails that Dan Locksmith from Nichols Portland sent to me.

Hello Lance,
Thank you for contacting Nichols Portland. My name is Dan Locksmith and I am a Product Engineer here at Nichols Portland.

We are honored that our gerotor assembly is a Battalion Medallion presented to the boys upon graduation. We will be glad to help you with you gerotor needs, I just have not quite figured out how I will do it. I do not want to take assemblies from our stock, because I do not want to charge you for the gerotors. I am keeping my eye out for some overruns that can be used.

Could I get some information or history about your boys clubs? I have been having some fun with this unique opportunity and picture. Unfortunately, I can not answer questions when people ask. Looking forward to your reply. Have a great weekend.

Hello Lance,
I apologize for the delay. I have put together a package for your Battalion Medallions. Nichols Portland will send them to you and we will pick-up the freight.

Hello Lance,

Please forward me your blog so I can post it here at Nichols Portland and share this experience with our employees. Additionally, provide some photos of the
boys receiving our gerotor assemblies. I would like display them in our lunch room.

To: Canadian Border Guards,

Nichols Portland is very proud to support your local boys club and Lance
Martens, Captain of Battalion 3739. We have provided 500 free gerotor
assemblies, as a goodwill gesture, to be used as Battalion Medallions.

Best regards,

Dan Locksmith

BTLN UPDATE

First off, congrats John! This is John's first Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln Season. John has been a big help this year! You've earned it John!

This week was the unveiling of the new 2013/14 Btln Shirts! Before we were totally settled on the design I predicted that these shirts would be the best Btln shirts we have ever made. I think we have accomplished our goal! This year was Btln 3739's 35th Anniversary and this was our 15th shirt! So we did a redo of our first shirt!(We stylized it!) Anyways, thanks go out to Jason, Bruce and Ben at Eternity Clothing Company! Thanks also goes out to Laird Salkeld for his help with the design! Any Alumni that want one of these shirts can get one of these for $20! (Show your support for 3739!)

This week we played Handball for only the second time this year! This week the teams were close and the score proved it. The game went back and forth until we had a 11-11 tie! We went to next goal wins and without the defenseman helping the goalie it usually doesn't take long for the game to end. David Barney had the game winner throwing it past our goalie giving Bent's team the win!

Ben was on Bible study this week and he had us looking at purity.

Proverbs 5:1-5  My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.

Purity is the goal. If we do not follow God's advice here in Proverbs we are told that there will be terrible consequences! Ben pointed out the way to purity was through wisdom attained through God's Word!

Matthew 5:27-28  “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Jesus raised the bar when it came to purity! It wasn't only the act it was also our thoughts that would get us into trouble!

Ben reminded us that sometimes we will need to run away like Joseph (Genesis 39) when temptation comes calling!

1 Corinthians 10:12-13  So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Hebrews 4:14-16  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle and we can go to him in prayer for help!

So stoked to have Cody Harp come back to visit us at Btln this week! (Should've got a picture!) Got to love it when Alumni come back for a visit!

BTLN UPDATE

Time again for another Btln update! Congrats to Max on his second Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln Season! Like last year Max has an early lead in the race for Winston. Can Max stay ahead this year? Can't wait to find out!

This week we played Mike for the first time this year. Jason's team built an early lead but Nathan's team wasn't far behind. Ben's team was losing badly until Noah was added to their team. After adding Noah, Ben's team climbed back into contention. But in the end Jason's team pulled away taking the victory!

Mike Final Scores
Jason's team - 50
Nathan's team - 43
Ben's team - 40
Jake's team - 35

This week in Bible study we talked about trust and confidence. Who should we trust and were should we put our confidence? The answer is obvious but sometimes we need a gentle reminder!

Psalm 56:3,4  When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

Psalm 56:10,11  In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?

Psalm 118:8,9  It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Proverbs 3:5,6  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 28:26  Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

Jeremiah 17:5  This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:7  “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

God's Word tells us that we are foolish to trust ourselves or other men. We need to trust only in God! We can have full confidence and complete trust in him alone!

(By the way, doesn't Ryley's jersey look good in the case?)

BTLN UPDATE - MAXWELL NICHOLSON, 26TH SERGEANT OF BTLN 3739

Congrats to Maxwell! Maxwell is the 26th Sergeant of Btln 3739! We were lucky to have seven Btln 3739 Sergeants from the past to help celebrate Maxwell's induction!

#3 Bruce Jepsen - 1984
#7 Lance Martens - 1990
#12 Aaron Friesen - 1999
#19 Ben Jepsen - 2006
#20 Jason Hayashi - 2007
#21 Devin Chursinoff - 2008
#23 Sam Jepsen - 2010
#26 Maxwell Nicholson - 2014

Thanks to all the Sergeants who came out on Wednesday Night!

Maxwell is the eleventh Sergeant to receive his jersey in our "One Forward and One Back " Sergeant jersey program. (Ryley Heppner will be receiving his jersey later this year in the "One Back" part of our Sergeant jersey program!)

So many things going on early in the new year that it is hard to keep track of it all! This week was also David Barney's first Helmet! Congrats David! David has earned this win, so many close calls before! Everyone was pumped for David, so glad to do "The Barney" for the camera! Once again Congrats David!

This week was the first Stickball game of 2013/14 and you would have thought that it was the first time we had ever played it! Stickball is one of my favourite games because it requires a little strategy. Devin's team jumped out to an early lead. The other teams were remembering (and learning) how to play defense. Ben's team and Jason's team were in striking distance after the first inning but Aaron's team didn't even have a run! In the second inning Devin's team pulled away even further making a comeback almost impossible. But Ben's team battled back in the second to take the win!

Stickball Final Scores
Ben's team - 20
Devin's team - 19
Jason's team - 11
Aaron's team - 4

This week in Bible study we looked at following Godly leaders examples as they follow Christ.

Ephesians 5:1  Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

1 Corinthians 11:1,2  Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

1 Corinthians 4:15-17  Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

1 Thessalonians 1:4-8  For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.

Our goal at Btln is that the guys will become imitators of the men of Btln and of all of the leaders from the past as we all do our best to follow Christ! (What a huge responsibility!)

Look at what happened when the Thessalonians became imitators of Paul, Silas, Timothy and the Lord.
"your faith in God has become known everywhere."  My hope is that one day this same thing can be said about the men of Btln 3739!

Hebrews 12:1-3  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

We have a great cloud of witnesses to follow at Btln but we must first "fix our eyes on Jesus"!

Again, Congrats Maxwell! We here at the blog salute you!

BTLN UPDATE - POOL PARTY!

What a night! It was 32 degrees at 6:00 p.m. when I showed up at the pool to set up for the party! Around 25 men and boys showed up it was awesome! The Zorb was a big hit with the guys. Last year both Zorbs were flat so that very night when I got home from Btln I ordered a new one. I will probably get another one so we will have two next year! Before we moved into the house for snacks (ice cream cake, chips and pop) it was time for The Belly Flop Competition! It seems like most years there are two guys that are way better than everyone else. This year it was Noah and Max. Noah's first belly flop was one of the best I have ever heard!(It is mostly about the slap!) Max also nailed his first putting Max and Noah into the final round! After hurting yourself in the first round it takes a lot of courage to do it a second time! Both guys gave it their all in the second round with Max taking the win! Congrats Max! First Yorkie of the new season for Max! Max and Noah we here at the blog salute you!

Thanks to everyone who showed up it was another great night at Btln!

BTLN UPDATE!

First off Congrats to Jonathan!(Sorry about the blurry picture!) This was Jon's first ever Helmet! I don't think I have ever seen that kind of fire in Jon's eyes before! Nathan Ball started in the middle for Bulldog this week. It was not an easy task as most guys were sweating a lot because of the heat! John Van, Maxwell and Jonathan were the last three with Jon pulling out the win. I'm thinking that these three are going to be last most nights this year!

We started the night with Murderball. My team got beat up bad. Nathan Ball kept punishing me! His throw is second to none! I think the final tally was 6-2. It was never very close.

In Bible study we started the year with the topic "New Beginnings". The first passage was the first verse in the Bible.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

We saw that God had a special purpose for the earth at the Beginning! That special purpose was us! The problem was that we decided that we didn't want to follow God and that we wanted to go our own way!

God cannot tolerate sin so he had two choices. Either he had to destroy us or provide a way for us to be saved. God is loving so he chose to save us by sending his Son (Jesus) to die for our sins.

John 1:1-4  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

We needed the Creator (Jesus) of life to give us life because we were spiritually dead. Just as Jesus created everything at the beginning he needed to recreate us and give us new life! We needed to be born again!

John 3:3  Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

We only need to accept this free gift! It is our New Beginning!

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

We are a new creation because of Christ!

After Bible study we played Handball and again my team got their buts kicked! We played next goal wins and I wiffed on an easy throw! It was brutal!

After we dog piled Nathan (Because he is getting married next weekend!) First Night was over! The 2013/14 Btln season has officially started!

Next week is the Btln Pool Party at Abe's house!

TWO MORE FOR CREATION 2013!

Brodie and Emmit Juul-Hansen are from Calgary. They come with their family to the lake every summer, attend Gospel Chapel (in the summer.) and have spent time up at the Pines. I told them that  if they completed the Memory Work next year I would take them to Creation 2014. They asked if they could come with us this year to Creation 2013 if they completed the Memory Work. Both Brodie and Emmit completed the Memory Work in less than four weeks! That is a new Btln 3739 record!

Btln 3739 is expanding! Two new Members from Calgary!

Brodie and Emmit, we here at the blog salute you! Welcome to Battalion 3739!
