15th ANNUAL PING PONG TOURNEY
Thirty-one guys competed in the fifteenth annual Btln Ping Pong Tourney! Congrats to Zane Lawson and defending Champion Parker Steadman on making it to the Finals! The guys played Handball while they waited their turn to play in the tourney, it is always a little chaotic on Ping Pong night but everything that we do at Battalion is a little chaotic.
Ryley was in town and came out to Battalion, love it when the Alumni join us on a Wednesday night!
Don't forget Sunday Night 6:20 p.m. at the church, it is Battalion Sunday! Wear your Btln shirt!
Things to expect at Battalion Night(In no particular order)
1)Btln Top Ten - Written by Bent, Charles and Jason!

BTLN TOP TEN
This is the list from last years Brigade Night. This tradition started twelve years ago, we did a spoof on David Letterman(Al Martens was Dave and I believe Ryley was Paul) on Brigade Night and the Top ten was the most popular part of the night so we made it a regular part of our show.
BTLN TOP TEN 2009
10)We have a great home! The Gospel Chapel has been very gracious to us and has given us a place to stay and to hang out! The new Btln Headquarters!
9)We are very accepting so long as you're between the grades of 7-12 and you're a guy then you are in!
8)We are family, it's something you can be a part of and be proud of, no we are not a cult or a gang but some say that we walk the line.
7)We take care of you! With the amount of free food at Btln we are convinced that someone could actually live off of Btln!
6)You get to be a part of a long line of Btln history and legends.
5)We will never shoot down your biggest dreams, we guarantee that they aren't bigger than the ones we already have! For example, one day we hope to buy Grand Forks! Like I said no dream is too big for Btln!
4)Somehow we always think that Todd Bertuzzi will join our adventures....(see number 5)
3)You never know what will happen at Btln, for example we have this weird habit of taking pictures with any statue we find on our road trips...I really don't know why, but hey I don't know why we do a lot of the things we do at Btln.
2)We are sponsored by Reebok, Everlast, Pepsi, D.Q., Subway, Snickers, the B.C.Lions, Toby Mac, Relient K, Boston Pizza, Bacon, Barq's, NOS and Bruce Jepsen....ok well that's not actually true but if you go to Btln you will know why all of these things are important to Btln.
1)And the number one reason to go to Btln, Drew Brown goes(and for all you ladies out there he's single!)(p.s. so is Ben Jepsen!)

VINTAGE BTLN PING PONG
These pictures are from the very first Btln Ping Pong tourney!(And the very first Btln Major!) They were on the same roll of film as the vintage Btln Olympics pictures. Not sure why we took pictures the first year and then didn't for five years, I guess we were still learning. Anyways check out the two tier trophy, we will start using the third tier next year.(We bought the third tier to make it look more impressive, not because we needed it.) Do you recognize anyone?

JANUARY, A MONTH IN REVIEW
This is about three weeks late but that's how busy it has been at Btln 3739. We started the month by giving Jason his Sergeant jersey as a part of our One forward - One back program. Bent was around the first week as well so we had him as our guest speaker. Next up was Mike 23 and S*A*M, two Btln original games. We had a Non-Com meeting at the Station with plenty of cross trax and we started the Memory Work, looking forward to another year at Creation! The Helmet winners in January were Sammy, Zach, Stevie and Owen. Many good times, and many more to come!

BTLN UPDATE
This week was Mike Night with the new balls! It was sweet with the new balls! Numbers were down a little so we played with two teams rather than four. Justin's team beating Devin's two straight.
This week Al Martens(Jeremy's cousin)was in town so we had him do the Bible study for us. Al did a study that few have the courage to touch. Our topic was about lust and how a Godly man will deal with it in his life.
1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Remember our great God is faithful! He is not going to let us be tempted beyond what we can handle! And he is going to provide a way for us to avoid sinning!
Hebrews 4:15,16 - For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Jesus sympathizes with us and wants us to approach him so that he can give us mercy and grace to help us in our time of need! Again, How Great is our God!
Chris and Zach were the final two in Bulldog, but they were both stopped short of the wall on the last round. It was too close to call so we had to go another round. Zach pulling it out again! Congrats Zach!
We had the ping pong tables up again so the guys could practise for the Ping Pong Tourney next week, but like last week Ping Pong turned into Sting Pong! Check out the pictures!
Next week is the 15th Annual Btln Ping Pong Tourney! Bring a friend!(We will also be playing handball.)
Meet the Btln Nation with Al Martens coming soon!

P-DUB
I noticed this passage on a church sign in Kelowna yesterday. I am always surprised the way God will bring an idea for the P-dub or Bible study.
Psalm 46:10 - "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
Where do we start with this passage? God tells us to be still and know that he is God, in other words God is telling us to stop what we are doing and focus on him. Life can busy and it can make us very distracted. Often we need to refocus our attention and look to God for direction.
Zechariah 2:13 - Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
God's holiness and greatness should make us fall to our knees in worship.
Remember the Israelites reaction when God spoke to them at Sinai?
They told Moses...
Exodus 20:19 - "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."
There is no doubt that the people had no trouble being still. We serve the same God. Thankfully he deals differently with us. We can study his word and get to know him.
How great is our God!

BTLN UPDATE
We had the Ping Pong tables out so that the guys could practise for the Ping Pong Tourney but Ping Pong turned into sting pong. Some how when you get a bunch of guys together pain is usually involved.
If you don't count S*A*M(Jeremy says that they are definitely not the same.) then tonight was only the second time that we have played Murderball in the second half. The games were very quick, the team that got ahead early did not lose. I think we played 9 times, Jeremy's team winning 6 - 3.(Ya, I lost again.)
We are still sticking to our theme, How great is our God! Three weeks ago we looked at Gods perfect justice. This time around we looked at God as our Comforter.
2 Corinthians 1:3,4 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
2 Thessalonians 3:16a - Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
Psalm 145:8,9 - The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
This is the kind of God that we need! Our God is the Father of compassion, the God of all comfort, the Lord of peace, is slow to anger and rich in love!
How great is our God!
With Sam S.(The Champ)in the middle for Bulldog walking for the first few rounds is not an option. Especially since the new strategy has been to run around behind everyone and pull guys down from behind. Zach W. and Kaleb were the final two combatants, Kaleb lasting one more round to earn his second Helmet of the year! Congrats Kaleb!
After the night was over we headed over to the Dubber for the latest, pie and ice cream. Hanging out at the Dub is a good way to wind down the Btln night.
Happy Birthday to George Kozub - February 13 (We missed his B-day)
Next week at Battalion - MIKE! (We have added a new ball, should be better than ever.)
Remember, Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!
Coming soon, Meet the Btln Nation with Jordon Walsh!

SUPER BOWL 44
Not bad game and the commercials were all right, I guess(I missed most of the good ones, had to watch them on You Tube) but watching Nathan and Chris eat the giant pickles(and drink the pickle juice) that Bruce had bought was hilarious! Nathan ate the pickle for four dollars and Chris for seven dollars, totally not worth it. More Btln memories!

There are two Majors left, The Battalion Ping Pong Tourney and The Masters.

SAM SCHIESSER - 5 Helmets and 2 Majors

SAM IS THE CHAMP! / WINTERSLAM 5
What a night! The extra gloves that we ordered showed up today. I was picking them up in Danville at 6:30! We were cutting it a little close but that's the way we do it around here. Apparently a set of gloves is two pairs, and I ordered two sets!(The 8 gloves filled up the back of my truck) The border guards are always wondering what we will be bringing across next.
The night started with Secret Weapon by MXPX, great song to get everyone pumped. First up were the Lightweights and after four rounds we had the final four, Riley, Seth, Spencer and Cody. Cody quickly eliminated Riley and Seth but could not knock out Spencer. Spencer hung around for a while and let Cody get tired before he finished him off. It was a hard fought battle with SuSpence winning the Lightweight division for the second year in a row! Congrats Spencer!
Next up were the Heavyweights and another four rounds giving us the final four in the Heavyweight division. Sam S., Kaleb, Chris and Stevie were in the finals! Chris pulled out of the final, he was feeling sick. Sage finished second in the same heat that Chris had won, so he took his place in the final. Kaleb and Sam were the last two guys standing, and after a good battle, Sam was the Champ, again! Sam joins Ben Jepsen and Devin Chursinoff as the only three to complete the Battalion Belt Grand Slam.(Winning both The Royal Rumble and Winterslam.) And only the second one to complete the Grand Slam in one season.(Bent is the only other one to complete the Grand Slam in one season.) Congrats Sam!
Special thanks to Cam for setting up and running the music!(Again!)
Thanks also goes out to Sammy and Ryan for helping set up!
One more, thanks to Cam, Jeremy, Jordon, Devin and Ryan for helping out with the clean up, when we were done you couldn't tell that we had been there! (Besides the smell of sweat and smoke from the smoke machine.)
