P.O.W.

Can't believe another week is over and it is again time for Passage Of the Week. This week like every other week has had it's share of ups and downs. Last Night is always exciting, I am always flying high after Last Night, but there is always the realization that Battalion is over for the year(besides Maylong and Creation)and that is a real downer. How can we deal with these ups and downs, where can we go for help?

Hebrews 6:19a - Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast,

As Christians when life gets tough we have to remember that we have hope as an anchor. Just having the anchor isn't good enough, we need to use it. If sailors were in a bad storm and didn't use the anchor to steady the ship what good would it be to them? Having an anchor that is sure and steadfast is great, but we need to use it.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Words like sure, steadfast and certain have to give us confidence and make us feel like we can make it through another week. We have been saying all year long that your faith is only as good as the thing or person that you have faith in. There is no better place to put your hope or faith than in Jesus. Jesus and his Word is our anchor.

Ephesians 4:11,12,14 - It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.

Once we are grounded in God's Word we will be able to use it as the anchor for our soul. If we are not sure what God's word is saying to us we will be tossed back and forth and blown here and there everytime we have a problem in life. We need to study God's word so that we can be sure, steadfast and certain! Then we will be able to make it through the storms of life.

Good stuff, we were just talking in Sunday school about how believing in something that isn't true is useless and so we strive to find out what is true because even if we don't like it it is better to believe in something trustworthy than something false. There was a good quote from C.S. Lewis about that to, I wish I could remember it.
