BTLN UPDATE - ZACH'S LAST NIGHT
This week was Zach's last night. Why you ask? Zach is going to Mongolia with YWAM after some training in Alaska.
The night started with Soccer and "Pop n Dogs". I don't ever remember playing soccer at Btln but it is definitely worth repeating. Jake, David and Luke dominated the game destroying my team 7-3. The game wasn't close but was still a lot of fun!
We ended soccer a little early so that we could have grad ceremonies for Zach. First Zach received his copy of the motto. The response is always the same....shock.(I love the reaction that we get from the grads after they read the motto.)
Next we presented Zach with Winston! Zach had been close to winning in the past but was not going to be denied this year! Congrats Zach! After Winston it was time to give Zach his Bible. I love this tradition, what else could we give to the grads that could mean as much? Congrats Zach! We here at the blog salute you!
Nathan was next to be honored. Nathan completed the Memory Work so he needed his Btln Medallion! Congrats Nathan! We here at the blog salute you!(A lot of saluting going on!)
This week we did our finished our series "Entrust to Reliable Men". This year we have looked at Job, Abel, Abraham, Daniel, Noah, Isaac, Moses, David, Joseph, Solomon, Caleb, Jonathan, Timothy, Paul, Peter, Samson, Jeremiah, Gideon and Jesus(Christmas and Easter).
We read through some of Hebrews 11 this week. Hebrews 11 was a good summary for our series "Entrust to Reliable Men".
Here are some of the passages we highlighted.
Hebrews 11:1-2 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:13a & 16b All these people were still living by faith when they died. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God.
Hebrews 11:32-38 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
We finished with this next passage. It is true of all the men that we looked at. I hope and pray that it is also true of Battalion 3739! (The great cloud of witnesses.)
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
After Bible study it was time for Bulldog. This Wednesday was focused on our grads and it continued in Bulldog when Nathan won his 5th Helmet of the year! Congrats Nathan!
Next week is the Btln Masters! Bring a friend!

CALVIN PETERS - SERGEANT JERSEY PRESENTATION

Today we had the chance to present Calvin Peters with his Sergeant Jersey in our "One Forward and One Back" Sergeant Jersey Program! (It was awesome to have all the Btln Alumni in church to help us honor Calvin! God's timing is always perfect!) It was a surprise and a blessing to see Calvin back in G.F. for the Easter weekend! Calvin was the 18th Sergeant of Battalion 3739 and is the 8th Sergeant to receive his jersey. I feel so blessed to know these men and to be able to call them friends. Congrats Calvin! BTLN UPDATE - BTLN FOOTBALL & "POP N DOGS" WEEK 2
It was week 2 of Btln Football and because it was so close to Easter we had some of the Btln Alumni make an appearance! Owen, Blake and Devin were all there, it was good to have them, it brought back a lot of good memories!
The football was good and both teams battled hard. My team had the ball in the offensive zone for almost the whole game but we were unable to score. Aaron and Owen were able to connect on a long pass and scored the only touchdown of the game, the score was 7-0. Joe and I also had a long td pass but were informed that I had already been sacked. Either way it was a lot of fun.
After football and some Menno it was time for the Bible study. This week we took a second look at Jesus in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men". This time around we looked at his death and resurrection.(Matthew 27:45-66 & Matthew 28:1-10, Luke 23:44-56 & Luke 24:1-6)
It is amazing to think that after all the miracles that Jesus had done in his life that the Nation of Israel still did not believe that he was the Messiah. During his crucifixion and death the sky grows dark, there is an earthquake, the curtain of the temple is torn in two and many holy people were raised to life and they still don't believe. It is interesting to see the Roman Centurion's response.
Matthew 27:54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
The signs were all there! It was obvious to the Roman Centurion who Jesus was. What will we do with Jesus? He claimed to be the Son of God!
Luke 22:69-71 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You are right in saying I am.”
Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
The question is, what does this mean? How does Jesus' death and resurrection affect you and me?
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Jesus died to save us from our sin! All we have to do is believe the "good news" that Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the dead! We are saved because of Jesus' death and resurrection!
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Bulldog was next. Nathan was in the middle to start and he had a few Alumni to contend with. There was a little more light than last week but it was still dark enough to make it sketchy. After a few rounds it was Luke and Zach battling it out for the Helmet! Zach outlasted Luke and collected his final Yorkie ever!(Unless he wins won on Alumni Night!) Congrats Zach!
Next week we are back at the high school field, this time playing soccer!

BTLN UPDATE - BTLN FOOTBALL AND "POP N DOGS"
I was unsure if the weather was going to cooperate but in the end we had blue sky and sunshine!(Not a drop of rain after 6:30!)George talked me into going back to the football field, he was convinced that the weather would get better! I should have known better, Btln Football has never been rained out!
We gave the guys a choice between Football and Soccer(English Football, The Beautiful game....)and the guys chose football.(Canadian that is.)
Ben's team struck first when Jake pulled down a pass in the end zone to take the lead 7-0. Jake continued to star as he intercepted the ball and knocked down a couple others. Unfortunately we were unable to convert the score still 7-0.
Zach tied the game with a bomb from Jeremy and then Joe helped to make the score 14-7 for Joe and Jeremy's team. Zach and Nathan caused havoc for me all night long with a pass rush that we couldn't handle. I was sacked at least 6 times, it was the game changer. Zach scored again on another long bomb to make the score 21-7. Max scored late to make the score 21-14 but it was too little and too late. The final score was 21-14.
Jeremy had the reins in the Bible study this week as we took a look at Gideon in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men".(Judges 6, 7 and 8)
Gideon needed encouragement from God (like Moses and Jeremiah) to do what God asked him. I don't think that this is a sign of weakness, just a personality thing. These men had to learn to trust God more!
Judges 6:14-16 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
“But Lord,” Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.”
"Go in the strength that you have", God had already equipped Gideon for the task at hand! He has also equipped us for his work!
"Am I not sending you?" God was sending Gideon to do his work and he is also sending you and me! God had a plan for Gideon and he also has one for us!
Judges 7:2-7 The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, announce now to the people, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’” So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.
But the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, ‘This one shall go with you,’ he shall go; but if I say, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”
So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the Lord told him, “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink.” Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.
The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place.”
God used 300 men to defeat 135,000 men! God wants to use us to do his work but he does not want us boasting, he wants us to know that it is him that is doing the work!
This is like God's salvation!
Ephesians 2:6-10 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
We finished the night with Bulldog(No Helmet! What's up T Square?) and because Tristan didn't show up we had Bent in the middle. It was dark so we had glow sticks for markers. It was a little sketchy in the dark but no big deal. In the end it was Nathan taking the Helmet and the Yorkie! Congrats Nathan!
Ben Nicholson completed the Memory Work so we gave him his Btln Medallion! One of the highlights of my year for sure! Btln Legends Ben Jepsen and Joe Kraftchick giving Ben his Medallion, it was awesome! Welcome to the world of gentlemen Ben!
We here at the blog salute you!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats T-Square! Tristan has his third Helmet of the 2011/12 Btln 3739 Season! Tristan is having a huge second half! Tristan has won all three of his Helmets in the Second Half!
This week we played the Btln Trifecta! We started with Extreme Bulldog. I have never won Bulldog to the Extreme... until Wednesday night! Ben's team had the early lead but Jere's and my team stormed back for the win! Next up was Handball. We built a big 6-2 lead over Ben's team but they returned the favour and also stormed back to win. The series was tied and we needed to play Murderball to settle the score. Jere's team had the early lead but Ben's team again came back and finished us off for the Btln Trifecta win!
In Bible study we continued our series "Entrust to Reliable Men" as we looked at Jeremiah. (Jeremiah 1:4-10, Jeremiah 20:1-6, Jeremiah 36:1-32, Jeremiah 38:1-13)
Jeremiah 36:1-3 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Take a scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you concerning Israel, Judah and all the other nations from the time I began speaking to you in the reign of Josiah till now. Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, each of them will turn from his wicked way; then I will forgive their wickedness and their sin.”
Jeremiah 36:22-24 It was the ninth month and the king was sitting in the winter apartment, with a fire burning in the firepot in front of him. Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes.
King Jehoiakim's response to Jeremiah's and God's plea was indicative of the nation's(Judah)attitude towards God and Jeremiah.
Jeremiah followed God and persevered even though the people didn't respond. Jeremiah's ministry lasted thirty-nine years and Judah continued in their evil ways. We need to continue to do God's work even if we don't see results!
We need to run with perseverance(like Jeremiah)the race marked out for us! Even if we have to endure shame!(It will never be as bad as the shame that Jesus endured for us!)
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
God showed great patience with the nation Judah and he also does with us!
Nate was in the middle for Bulldog and he did an amazing job taking guys down! In the first round Nate took out Nathan! A few rounds later we were crowning Tristan with the Helmet! Congrats T-Square!
Only five weeks left in the 2011/12 Btln Season! Let's make the most of them!

BTLN UPDATE
Nate took a ball to the face that left it's mark but that didn't stop him from winning his first ever Helmet! Congrats Nate!
The night started with the old man taking the boys to the cleaners in a game of American 21! (I don't beat these guys very often so I gotta brag while I can.)
Next up was the lineup and we had this weird clapping thing going on, there was an applause for just about everything we were announcing.(Until we announced that Battalion would be down one week during spring break. This was to a chorus of boos.)
In our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men" we took a closer look at Samson.(Judges chapter 13 to the end of Judges chapter 16.)
Judges 13:1-5 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, so the Lord delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was sterile and remained childless. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son. Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean, because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”
God had a plan for Samson's life. He was to be set apart to God! God has a plan for our lives as well! He also wants us to be set apart to him!
Samson did begin the deliverance of Israel but probably could have accomplished so much more for God if he had stayed away from Delilah.
In the end Samson does defeat the Philistines but what a tragic end! Samson dies along with his enemies!
Judges 16:23-30 Now the rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to celebrate, saying, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands.”
When the people saw him, they praised their god, saying,
“Our god has delivered our enemy
into our hands,
the one who laid waste our land
and multiplied our slain.”
While they were in high spirits, they shouted, “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.
When they stood him among the pillars, Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “O Sovereign Lord, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.
I pray that we would follow God's plan for our lives and make the most of every opportunity!
Murderball was the game tonight and my team got worked over! (I even had Jeremy and Joe on my team.) We won the last game but that was small consolation. My team lost 3 games to 1.
Zach was in the middle for Bulldog and the leaders were some of the first to go. In the end it was Nate rising to the top to get the Helmet! Congrats again to Nate!
After almost everyone had gone home Zach quoted the entire Memory Work list in order! It was amazing! No one has ever recited every passage on the list! And Zach did it all on one night! Zach has done some amazing things at Battalion but this one tops them all! Congrats Zach! We here at the blog salute you!

Congrats to Jordan Hammett and Spencer Henderson for making it to the Ping Pong final! The final will be played Sunday night after Battalion Night. 21 guys competed in then tourney now we are down to two!
The one bracket had Spencer, Nathan and Landon in the Semi's and the other side of the bracket had Zach, Max and Jordan. The Ping Pong was better this year, it looked as if guys had been practising. Both Max and Nathan nearly knocked out Jordan and Spencer, there was some good Ping Pong being played. It was a great night, we had snacks and Ping Pong for most of the night.(Pizza, chips, cookies, pop, and deep fried Mars bars! Thanks Sam!) Once we were done with Ping Pong we headed into the gym to play some Murderball. After a couple games of Murderball we had and impromptu game of free for all murderball it was awesome! Balls flying everywhere it was great! Anyways good night all around.
