BTLN UPDATE - BTLN FOOTBALL & "POP N DOGS" WEEK 2

It was week 2 of Btln Football and because it was so close to Easter we had some of the Btln Alumni make an appearance! Owen, Blake and Devin were all there, it was good to have them, it brought back a lot of good memories!

The football was good and both teams battled hard. My team had the ball in the offensive zone for almost the whole game but we were unable to score. Aaron and Owen were able to connect on a long pass and scored the only touchdown of the game, the score was 7-0. Joe and I also had a long td pass but were informed that I had already been sacked. Either way it was a lot of fun.

After football and some Menno it was time for the Bible study. This week we took a second look at Jesus in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men". This time around we looked at his death and resurrection.(Matthew 27:45-66 & Matthew 28:1-10, Luke 23:44-56 & Luke 24:1-6)

It is amazing to think that after all the miracles that Jesus had done in his life that the Nation of Israel still did not believe that he was the Messiah. During his crucifixion and death the sky grows dark, there is an earthquake, the curtain of the temple is torn in two and many holy people were raised to life and they still don't believe. It is interesting to see the Roman Centurion's response.

Matthew 27:54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

The signs were all there! It was obvious to the Roman Centurion who Jesus was. What will we do with Jesus? He claimed to be the Son of God!

Luke 22:69-71 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You are right in saying I am.”
Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”

The question is, what does this mean? How does Jesus' death and resurrection affect you and me?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Jesus died to save us from our sin! All we have to do is believe the "good news" that Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the dead! We are saved because of Jesus' death and resurrection!

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Bulldog was next. Nathan was in the middle to start and he had a few Alumni to contend with. There was a little more light than last week but it was still dark enough to make it sketchy. After a few rounds it was Luke and Zach battling it out for the Helmet! Zach outlasted Luke and collected his final Yorkie ever!(Unless he wins won on Alumni Night!) Congrats Zach!

Next week we are back at the high school field, this time playing soccer!

More "Pop n Dogs" next week! Bring a friend!
