WINTERSLAM VI
What a night! Twenty guys competed for the belt tonight at Winterslam 6! There were two rounds in the Lightweight division. The two guys in the final were Seth and Daniel. Daniel put up a good fight if you consider that he is in grade seven and Seth is in grade nine. In the end Seth was too much for Daniel. Congrats to Seth on his Lightweight division win!
Next up it was the Heavyweights. There were three rounds in the Heavyweight division. The three winners that went into the Heavyweight final were Chris(The King), Stevie(The Royal Rumble Champion) and Kaleb. Both Chris and Kaleb concentrated on knocking out Stevie first. After Stevie was gone it was down to Chris and Kaleb. This seemed fitting, two friends and long time Btln 3739 Members fighting it out for the Championship! Both guys fought hard and it seemed at first like Chris might overpower Kaleb but in the end Kaleb emerged victorious! This is Kaleb's first Btln Major! Congrats Kaleb!
Special thanks goes out to Jeremy, Ryley, Blake and Devin for all of your help tonight! These nights would not be possible without your help!
Again congrats to Kaleb and Seth!

All of these questions will be answered Wednesday night!
Remember there will be a Lightweight division as well as a Heavyweight division. Make sure that you are early!

BTLN UPDATE
Another week is in the books! This time around it was Zane with the big win! Congrats Zane! Chris(The King)was close to his fifth Helmet of the Btln season but Zach took him down giving Zane his third Helmet!
This week we tried something different, we played a mini three game tourney. We played one game of Handball up to ten and then a best of three Murderball tourney and finished with Extreme Bulldog.(The Battalion 3739 Trifecta!) (We kept the same teams for all three games.) It looked like the Martens brothers team(Jeremy, Lance and Chris.) would take the Handball game with an early 5-1 advantage but the Chursinoff brothers team (Blake, Devin and Zach) fought back and won the first leg of the Trifecta 10-7. Murderball was a disaster for the Martens team losing 3-0. The final leg of the Trifecta ended like the other two with the Chursinoff team winning Extreme Bulldog and the Btln Trifecta 3-0.(We got slaughtered!)
The Bible study this week was from John 5:1-18. The story was about the invalid that was waiting at the pool to be healed. This man was 38 years old and had been waiting a long time beside the pool to be healed. An angel would stir the water and the first one into the pool would be healed. Being an invalid it was nearly impossible for him to be first into the pool. Along comes Jesus and filled with compassion for this man he heals the invalid! Jesus tells the invalid to pick up his mat and walk, but because it was on the Sabbath the Jews are upset. It is amazing to see the lack of compassion from the Jews! The Jews are more concerned that this man is carrying his mat than that he was healed! The Jews knew the truth but did not act on it! It is not enough to know the truth, we must also follow it. Jeremy pointed out that the most important part of this meeting between Jesus and the invalid was not the healing of the invalid but the meeting itself! We need to meet Jesus! He will meet us were we are! Jesus wants to save us from our sinful condition!
1 Peter 2:24 - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
After Battalion the older guys headed over to the Station for snacks(Cross Trax) and a meeting. Plenty of laughs and a few good ideas for the second half. A new game called Murderdog came from this meeting. (Invented by Zane and named by Dalton.) Can't wait to try it! Many of our best traditions came from these meetings. Murderdog could be a classic!
Next week is Winterslam 6!(Boxing!) Make sure to be early and bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE
Congrats Cody! After being close so many times Cody finally closed the deal and got his first Helmet of the year!
This week we were going to have a Random Bible Check but it ended up being burger night at Btln 3739! I had enough burgers for everyone so what was I going to do?
Before we played Bulldog we had the Btln Big Shot. Landon took the shot from half but came up short. After Landon missed Devin told me that he could hit that shot whenever he wanted. So naturally I bet Devin that he couldn't make the shot. We decided that if Devin missed that he would buy pizza for Btln next week and if he hit the shot then I would have to buy. (Either way Btln wins.) Devin stepped up to the line and nailed the shot. I guess I am on the hook for pizza next week!
We hadn't played Murderball since before Christmas so it was time! After six games the score was tied at three games each. So we went to game seven just like in the Stanley Cup finals. After six close games the final was a blowout! Blake and Devin's team manhandled us.(Chris and Ryley's team.) It was brutal!
This week in the Bible study we looked at two stories. The stories were very similar. One was at the beginning of Jesus' ministry and the second was at the end his ministry on earth. In Luke 5:1-11 Peter goes fishing with Jesus in the morning after fishing all night and not catching a thing. With the God of heaven and earth in the boat as soon as they put the nets into the water they were so full that they began to break! In fact Peter and Andrew had to signal their partners James and John for help. They had so many fish that both boats were almost sinking! It is at this point that Peter realizes that Jesus is God and that he(Peter)is in need of a saviour. Peter said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" What happens next is amazing, after getting the biggest catch of their lives they pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Jesus!
Matthew 4:19,20 - "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him.
After Jesus' resurrection Peter, James and John(Along with four other disciples.) go fishing, and like the first time they didn't catch a thing all night. Jesus calls from the shore and tells them to throw the net on the other side of the boat, and just like the first time the nets were so full that they couldn't pull them in! Why did Jesus do this twice for Peter, James and John? What was he trying to teach them? Maybe Jesus wanted to remind them of all the good things they had seen and done together during his ministry. It could also be that he wanted to remind them to be fishers of men! (The second story is in John 21:1-11)
2 Corinthians 5:20 - We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
Non-com meeting next week after Battalion at the Station!(Grade eleven and twelves.)

BTLN UPDATE
The Second Half is underway! I guess there were a few guys that didn't realize that we were back up and running, oh well next week!(This kinda thing happens every year!) The night started with a game of Canadian 21, it is like American 21 only with less rules. If you are worried about every little foul then Canadian is definitely NOT the game for you!
This week in the Bible study we took another look at Christmas. Some Christians wonder if we should even bother celebrating Christmas because of how commercial it has become. Truth is that we have the best reason for celebrating!
Hebrews 2:9 - But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Jesus was born, lived, died and resurrected for you and me! And he is now crowned with glory and honor! Without his gift we would be dead in our sins! Thanks be to God for his gift!
Philippians 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
This week we started something new. We pick one person to take a shot from half court. If he makes his shot then everyone gets burgers the following week. This week Luke took a shot and missed, better luck next time.
In Bulldog this week Nathan Klassen won his first Helmet ever! Congrats Nathan! That Yorkie will be extra sweet tonight! Zach started in the middle and it was obvious early on that he was going to make sure that Chris(The King)did not win this week. Cody and Nathan were the final two, Nathan making it a little further on the last round. Cody has been close several times, he is due for a Helmet win!
Congrats and thanks to Ben for bringing five friends! (Btln Members that bring five friends are rewarded with a gift card from D.Q.)

I have said it before and I will say it again, the Second Half does not take a back seat to the First Half!
