BTLN OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS

This Wednesday the 16th annual Battalion Olympics will be taking place! In fifteen years we have had eleven winners and four back to back Champions. We have not had a back to back winner since Bent won in 04/05 and 05/06. Zach was the first grade ten to win the Olympics and by doing so he give himself a chance to win three years in a row! Zach will have his hands full as everyone else will be determined to make sure he does not win this year.

BTLN 3739 OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS and margin of victory
Courtney Friesen - 1995/96 - 1 point
Courtney Friesen - 1996/97 - 3 points

BTLN UPDATE

Jordan takes his first Helmet! Congrats Jordan! Zach started in the middle this week and he made it his mission to take out all the previous Helmet winners. Chris, Stevie, Zane and Dalton were all on the hit list. After a good game of Bulldog we had pizza to finish the night. As you can see the Pizza Sandwich lives on at Battalion 3739!
This week we played football in the gym, I guess it has been a while since we have played it because most guys don't ever remember playing football in the gym. On my team's first drive Zane got us an early lead with a nice catch in the end zone putting us up 7-0. Jeremy's team responded with big catches by Dalton and Devin giving them a 14-7 lead. We had other big plays by Zane and Cody Harp stepped it up but in the end we were unable to find the end zone again giving Jeremy's team a 14-7 win.
This week in Bible study we looked at three stories. The calling of Levi(Luke 5:27-32), Zacchaeus(Luke 19:1-10) and when Jesus talked to the Samaritan woman(John 4:1-42).

Luke 5:30-32 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Two things here, first the Pharisees needed to realize that "All have sinned"(Romans 3:23,24)so they themselves were in the same boat as everyone else. They(The Pharisees)also needed a Saviour. Secondly, Jesus was willing to help whoever was willing. Jesus was not worried about social status, he wanted to help everyone. This still true today! Jesus will help whoever asks! He has left the choice up to you.

1 Timothy 1:15a - Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Next week is the 16th Battalion Olympics! Don't be late!

BTLN UPDATE

Zach has been close to winning Bulldog several times this year and now he finally has his first Helmet of the year! Congrats Zach! Will the Helmets come in bunches for Zach or will Chris(The King), Stevie and Zane continue their dominance?
Last week we played Mike and this week it was Mike 23! Mike 23 is optically awesome and a ton of fun to play. The Zorb adds a whole new dimension to Mike 23, we will have to play with two next time. With Mike 23 the scores change radically from round to round, each team holding the lead at least once. The score was real close at the end, Ryley getting is revenge from last weeks loss to Devin and Charlie. My team came last but Charles and Devin were both cheating.(They kept throwing balls into my teams corner after the whistle.)

Mike 23 final scores
Team Ryley - 14
Team Devin/Zane - 13
Team Charlie/Chris - 12
Team Captain/Stevie - 11

This week in the Bible study we were in John 3 so we had a chance to look at probably the most famous passage in the Bible.

John 3:16-18 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

John 3:16 tells us that if we believe in Jesus that we will have eternal life, but what do we need to believe about him so that we can inherit eternal life?

Romans 10:9 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We need to believe that Jesus died for our sins, that he was buried and that he was raised from the dead on the third day. If we believe this we will get to spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus our God and Savior!(Also check out 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

BTLN UPDATE

Chris is once again laying claim to his kingdom! I tried to get in his way and he just brushed me aside.(Kinda like I did to him when he was in grade seven. What goes around comes around!) Chris outlasted Nathan K. to take his third Helmet of the year! Congrats Chris!(We played Bulldog with the strobe!)
This week was Mike Night! The guys are always stoked when they see the strobe hanging from the roof of the gym. We played with three teams, Team Charlie, Team Devin and Team Ryley/Chris. Ryley and Devin were trash talking the whole game even though Team Ryley/Chris were never really in the game. They were taking it on the chin the whole game. Team Charlie and Team Devin both took turns with the lead, but in the final round Team Devin cleaned up and ended with a big win.

Mike Night final score
Team Devin - 42
Team Charlie - 38
Team Ryley/Chris - 32

In the Bible study we looked at the story when Jesus went into the temple and cleaned house.(John 2:13-17) Jesus found people selling cattle, sheep and doves in the temple courts. He made a whip and went into the courts and chased everyone out. He also dumped tables and scattered the coins.
Jesus said "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"
In all this Jesus did not sin! There is a time for righteous anger. The problem is most times we don't get angry without sinning.

Proverbs 29:22 - An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.

Proverbs 14:17 - A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.

Psalm 103:8-13 - The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Although there is a time for righteous anger it would be better if we erred on the side of compassion. We should be slow to anger and compassionate!

VINTAGE BTLN 3739

This picture was taken March 7, 2004. It was taken at the Flames restaurant, we were Meeting Howard Pike for the first time. It was the afternoon of Brigade Sunday 2004.(Calvin Peters would go on to win his 3rd Btln Ping Pong Tourney later that night.)
This is the day that we told Howard that if he bought a trophy for a football tourney(The Director's Cup)that we would come to Vancouver and win it.(We lost the Director's Cup the first year but have won it every time since.)
I love finding pictures like this. Gold, pure gold. Anyways I figured it was worth sharing. Enjoy.

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats to Zane on his second Helmet of the year! Zach and Zane were the final two this week and again Zach is there at the end but was not able to close the deal. Better luck next week Zach.
Again this week we played Murderball and with the numbers down this week there was a lot more running. The games were quick and the wins went back and forth between both teams but in the end Jeremy and Devin's team emerged triumphant.
Jeremy had us in John 2:1-11 for Bible study this week. This was the story when Jesus and his disciples went to a wedding. Part way through the wedding the wine runs out and Jesus takes ordinary water and turns it into wine.(The Master of the Banquet called it the choice wine because it tasted so good.) Jeremy wondered why Jesus would turn water into wine if the guests had already had to much to drink and clearly God tells us not to get drunk on wine. God is never going to force us to make the right choices, he has given us a free will and we need to make the right choices ourselves! Remember that he will also provide a way out so that you can make the right choice!
Another reason for the miracle was to reveal his glory and to build the faith of his disciples.(On a side note this was obviously his first miracle. Jesus must not have been doing miracles as a child or a teen.)

John 1:11 - This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

October is done and what is next? There are seven weeks left in the First Half of the 2010/11 Btln season. Including the Sixteenth Battalion Olympics and then a couple of weeks later it is the Three B's.(Many good times left in the first half.)

"Meet the Nation" with Harry Tournemille coming soon!

BTLN NEWS - SKILLET WILL BE AT CREATION 2011!

That's right Skillet will be at Creation 2011 and will again be the last band of the week! This is a great way to close the week as Skillet has an amazing show that is second to none.
The question is will you be there? The Memory Work list is available and although we are not starting until January there is no reason why you could not start memorizing now. Why not get an early start?

WINSTON STANDINGS

After the first Btln Major of the year(The Royal Rumble)it was time for a Winston Standings update. After winning The Royal Rumble Stevie has taken the early lead away from Chris.(The Majors are the first tie-breaker.) Probably the biggest surprise of the year so far has to be Zach Gobbett going seven weeks without a Helmet. Zach finished in second place last year with 5 Helmets and 1 Major. Plenty of time for Zach or anyone else to get a couple of Helmets and get back into the race for Winston.

Stephen Lawrence - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
Chris Henderson - 2 Helmets
Dalton Shore - 1 Helmet
Zane Lawson - 1 Helmet
Ben Nicolson - 1 Helmet

BTLN UPDATE - THE ROYAL RUMBLE

The Rumble is now over and what a night! Thirty-five guys competed for the belt in the Rumble, it was our biggest night of the year so far. We started the night with Skillet "Monster" and how appropriate! You had to be a Monster to survive and win the belt! The Lightweights(grades 7-9) started the night for us with the final three staying in with the Heavyweights. Zac Wheaton, Spencer Henderson and Travis VanCamp were the last three Lightweights. Zac was the last Lightweight in the ring and therefore our 2010 Lightweight Champion!(Zac lasted a long time with the Heavyweights proving that he will be dangerous next year!) Congrats Zac!
Next up were the Heavyweights and what a battle, it was awesome! Like the Lightweights three guys from the Heavyweights (grades 10-12) outlasted everyone else and deserve to be recognized. Chris Henderson(The King), Dalton Shore and Stevie Lawrence. Stevie and Dalton worked together and knocked Chris out, leaving two to decide the night. At first Dalton had the upper hand and almost forced Stevie out.(It was literally within a few millimeters) But Stevie was able to get back up and push Dalton out to take the belt! Congrats Stevie!

Special thanks to Cam Tyssen for setting up and running the sound! (Not sure what we are going to do when Cam is gone.)

Thanks also to Devin, Owen and Jeremy for all of their help! It doesn't go unnoticed!

Once again Congrats to Stevie and Zac!

And the hits just keep on coming! We have just recently revealed the new Btln shirts, won the Director's Cup, played Btln Baseball and now it is time for The Royal Rumble! Battalion never slows down! The Royal Rumble has never had a repeat winner and this year isn't going to be any different! Who will take the belt? Chris, Cody, Zach, Stevie or Nathan? Or could there be someone else? We will have our answer Wednesday night!

Remember there are two weight classes. The Lightweight division, grades 7-9 and The Heavyweight division, grades 10-12.

Don't forget to come early!

2010 CHAMPIONS!

What an amazing trip! The Btln Bus is the best for these road trips! I am so thankful for it! We headed out early Saturday morning for Vancouver. On our way we stopped at Osoyoos for Timmy's breakfast sandwiches.(Not my favourite, but they are all right.) Our next stop was in Abbotsford to pick up d-Pod and to get some lunch. Burger King was our choice for lunch and apparently it was not a good one. Not sure if I have ever disliked a burger as much as that BK double stacker. (The only good thing to come out of Burger King were those crowns. Chris is the King!)(Jeremy and Devin were also disappointed with the food.) After leaving B.K.(We almost left without Stevie. He was in the bathroom at B.K.)we made our way into Vancouver and to the field were we would wreak havoc on the Coasties! After warming up for a while Kelowna(3445) showed up and a little while later the Coast team. At first it looked like Kelowna would have to play with the Coast and then finally Langley showed up.(It is supposed to be the Interior verses the Coast.) The game was close at first as the Coast's quarterback ran the ball a lot.(A lot like Ricky Ray, only we made the necessary adjustments.) After some adjustments on defence the Interior started to pull away.(Zach and D-Pod had the Coast quarterback on the run most of the game.) Zach had a touchdown were he ran almost the entire length of the field. The final was Interior 35 and Coast 7. We had touchdowns by Zach, Zane, Dan, Phil and ?(Can't remember the fifth touchdown.) Anyways we decided that next year the game would not be between the Interior and the Coast but between 3739 and 3445. After drinking Canada Dry from the Director's Cup we headed over to Empire to watch an entertaining but very cold game in which the Lions lost in overtime to the Eskimos.(I missed the warmth of B.C. Place.)
Next up was a trip to B.P. to celebrate our Director's Cup Championship and to finally get some good food! After B.P. it was back to the Best Western in Abbotsford for the night. The next day we enjoyed a continental breakfast,(mmm croissants.)some time at the mall, a stop at McDonald's in Osoyoos and then home time.

Can't wait until Director's Cup 2011! Seeking for six?
