BTLN PREVIEW - THE 23RD BTLN PING PONG TOURNEY



Last year Jakob won his fifth Btln Ping Pong Tourney! Can Jakob complete the six year sweep of the Ping Pong Tourney? Will Isaac or Reese be able to defeat Jakob? Or will someone else surprise us? I can't wait to find out!

BTLN UPDATE - DOUBLE POINT NIGHT




Congrats Neighbour! This was Isaac's third Bulldog of the Btln Season! Isaac's first Helmet ever was on Double Point Night last year!

This was the third year that we have had Double Point Night on a Wednesday night. It is a nice change to listen to the guys quoting scripture instead of a Bible study. It is so good to have all the guys in the room listening as the guys quote Scripture. I am so proud of everyone that said a passage! Good work guys!

This week we played Murderball for only the third time since Christmas! We only played three games of Murderball because I wanted to leave enough time for Double Point Night. My Team lost the two games before winning the third, losing 1-2. Whoever wins last wins best, right?


In the squad meetings we looked at some passages that described the Word of God.

Psalm 119:89   Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

2 Timothy 3:16-17   All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 4:12   For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Psalm 12:6   And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

Psalm 119:9-11   How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 


Psalm 119:130   The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
 


God's Word is eternal, alive, active, flawless and useful for teaching, rebuking and training in righteousness. God's Word can also keep us from sinning and gives us wisdom! This is why memorizing Scripture is so important!

BTLN UPDATE - WINTERSLAM 13







Congrats to Jakob! Jakob Boschmann is the Winterslam 13 Champion!

There were 25 guys at Winterslam 13! We had 11 Lightweights and 14 Heavyweights. There were three bouts in the first round of the Lightweight Division. In the second round we put the three winners from the first round back in the ring to find our winner! The last two left in the ring in the Lightweight Division were Kolton Spurrell and Josh Martens. Both Kolton and Josh battled to the point of exhaustion. Josh outlasted Kolton to win the Lightweight Division! Congrats Josh!

In the Heavyweight Division we had four bouts in the first round. Dylan and Jakob making their third appearance in the Winterslam Final Four! This year Dane and Luke joined Jakob and Dylan in the Final Four! Dane was the first out of the Final Four, followed by Dylan. This meant that Luke and Jakob were the Final Two! In the Final Two we did not immediately go "Ropes Down", giving the guys a chance to end the night with the "Ropes Up". After five minutes we went "Ropes Down", and shortly after Jakob knocked Luke down for the win! Congrats to both Jakob and Luke! Both can be very proud!

BTLN PREVIEW - WINTERSLAM 13


 
 
It is Winterslam 13 (boxing) this week at Battalion! Dylan is the back to back Winterslam Champion! Can Dylan win boxing three years in a row? Will Luke, Jakob, Alex or Dane take home the Belt for the first time? Could we have a surprise Champion? I can't wait to find out! Good luck to all!

Remember, there are two divisions. (Grades 7-9 Lightweight Division) (Grades 10-12, Heavyweight Division) Make sure that you are early! Bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT




Congrats Keegan! This was Keegan's second Helmet of the Btln Season! It was good to have Keegan back at Btln! Deshawn was in second place looking for his third Helmet of the Btln season. The third Helmet of Season has been elusive this year. Each Helmet is harder to win than the last one.

This was our third and final Mike Night of the 2017/18 Btln Season. I don't think that there has ever been a game of Mike that was this close. At each interval all four teams were within three or four points of each other. Half way through, the scores were two teams tied at 53, and two teams tied at 56!

This week our Bible Study topic was "The Fruits of the Spirit".

Galatians 5:22-23   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

We looked at some of God's examples of the fruits of the Spirit.

1) LOVE
Romans 5:8   But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2) JOY
Hebrews 12:2   Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3) PEACE
Romans 5:1   Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,


4) PATIENCE
2 Peter 3:9   The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

5) KINDNESS
Ephesians 2:6-7   And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

6) GOODNESS
2 Peter 1:2-3   Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.


7) FAITHFULNESS
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24   May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.


8) GENTLENESS
Matthew 11:28-30   “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

9) SELF-CONTROL
James 1:13   When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Neighbour! This was Isaac's second Helmet of the Btln Season! Dane was there with Isaac at the end, but came up a little short. Better luck next time Dane!

GeRRald came out to Btln this week! With John Van and GeRRald at Btln, it was retro night at Btln! (It is so good to have Alumni on a Wednesday Night!)

This week we played Mike 23 for the last time this Btln year. The scores rose and fell every mini game. After each mini game there was also a different team in the lead. Btln chaos at it's very best!

In Bible Study our topic was "The Gift"

Romans 4:4-5   Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

Romans 6:23   For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9   For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

2 Timothy 1:9-10   He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

These passages make it abundantly clear, that we cannot earn eternal life. In fact, God's gift is for those that don't work! All we have to do is receive God's free gift!

BTLN UPDATE - THE MILL





Congrats Luke! This was Luke's third Helmet of the Btln Season! Luke has increased his lead in the race for Winston to two Helmets! Dane was there at the end with Luke and almost had his second Helmet of the season. Dane is overdue for a win in Bulldog.

This week we played "The Mill" for only the second time ever! We added a Lightweight line (grade 7-9) to make things easier on the younger guys. I believe the spacing was 6 feet for the Heavyweights and 7 feet for the Lightweights. The game was very close, needing double overtime to break the draw! I'm thinking of adding a Train Round next year!

In the Bible Study our Topic was Love.

1 John 4:7-8   Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1) Love comes from God and God himself is Love!

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:7-8   Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2) The greatest act of Love would be dying for a friend. Jesus took this one step further, he died for us while we were still sinners!

Romans 8:38-39   For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3) Nothing can separate us from the Love of God!

Psalm 103:11   For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;

1 Corinthians 2:9   However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— 


Ephesians 3:17b-19   And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

4) God's Love for us is so great that it can't be measured! God's love is beyond what our minds can conceive. While on earth, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding God's Love for us. When we get to Heaven, then we will "know fully, (God's Love) even as we are fully known."

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Kaylon! This was Kaylon's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Jakob was there at the end with Kaylon, but the group was not going to let Jakob win his third Helmet before Kaylon had won his first Helmet! I love how hard the guys compete, but are still happy for each other at the end of the night!

Last week Noah had me sign a contract that we would play Murderball this week if John Van came out for the second week in a row. We were blessed with John's presence, so that meant that we would be playing Murderball for the second time in three weeks! Dan's Team easily beat Devin's team the first two games, so Dan's team decided that they would not rush the middle at the beginning of the game, thinking that they would win anyways. Not rushing the middle was a bad decision, Devin's team easily winning the third game. The final game went the same as the first two, Dan's team taking the win! Dan's team winning 3-1!

For the first time ever we had the squad meetings written on a baseball lineup card! Yeah, you guessed it, Noah was leading the Bible study this week! Noah's topic was "Paul's summary of the Gospel, and how it applies."

1 Corinthians 15:1-5   Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

Noah pointed out that, Paul was highlighting the Gospel. Paul wanted us to pay special attention to what he was about to say. Paul summarizes the Gospel, he tells us that, Jesus died for our sins, that he was buried and that he was raised back to life on the third day!

Romans 8:33-34   Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Because of what Jesus did for us, we cannot be condemned! Now Jesus is in Heaven with God the Father, interceding for us!

AARON FRIESEN

 
 
 
Aaron Friesen, the 12th Sergeant of CSB 3739 in Grand Forks has passed away. Aaron was our friend and brother. Aaron is now with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
 
 
Psalm 116:15   Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
 
2 Timothy 4:7-8   I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

BTLN UPDATE





Congrats Josiah! At Josiah's second night of Battalion ever he has his first Helmet! I have not been keeping track, but I am fairly certain that winning the Helmet on your second week at Btln is a record!

This week we played Stickball for only the second time of the Btln year. There is not a lot of running around in Stickball, but there is a lot of strategy involved. After the first inning Cam's team had a three or four run lead, but was not able to hold onto the lead. Jason's team had a big second inning scoring five runs to take the lead and the win!

In Bible study we finished our three part series, "Jesus is the Way", "Jesus is the Truth" and "Jesus is the Life".

John 14:6   Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus himself is the Life!

John 1:1-4   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

In Jesus there is Life!

John 11:25   Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

Jesus is the resurrection and the Life!

John 10:17-18   The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Jesus had the authority to lay down his Life. Jesus also had the authority and power to give himself Life!

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal Life!

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Riley! This was Riley's first Helmet of the Btln season! I checked the Btln Archives because I thought that this might be Riley's first Helmet, but I was wrong. Riley had one Helmet last year, making this Riley's second Helmet ever! So stoked for Riley! Josh was there at the end with Riley, but did not have as much forward progress as Riley on the final round.

With the power out earlier in the day, I wasn't sure what game we would play. Fortunately, the power came back on allowing us to play Murderball! Ryley's team won the first, third and fourth games, beating my team 3-1. My team just never got going.


In Bible study last week our topic was, "Jesus is the Way". This week our topic was, "Jesus is the Truth".

John 14:6   Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus himself is the Truth.

John 1:14   The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus came from the Father full of grace and Truth.

John 8:31-32   To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus' teaching is Truth, and the Truth will set us free!

John 15:26   “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

The Spirit of Truth testifies about Jesus.

Ephesians 1:13-14   And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

We are included in Christ when we believe the message of Truth!

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Dylan! Dylan has been so close to winning so many times this year. I am guessing that it won't take nearly as long for Dylan to win his second Helmet. Dane was there at the end with Dylan, and only missed winning by three or four feet. Better luck next time Dane!

The game of the week was Handball. The game was very close, both teams scoring in bunches. When the score was tied at 11 we reset to zero. My team scored first and ended winning 3-1!
Props to Robbie, who took two balls to the face in less than a minute and didn't quit!


The Bible study topic this week was "Jesus is the way"


John 14:1-6   “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.


Acts 4:12   Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”


Thomas did not understand the way to were Jesus was going. Most of humanity is just as confused as Thomas was. Jesus told Thomas that he (Jesus) was not just the way, but the only way!


Hebrews 12:2   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.


Jesus endured the cross because he knew that it was the only way that we could be saved! There was no other way! Jesus was joyful because he knew what he was going to accomplish on the cross.


Romans 10:9-10   If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

WINSTON UPDATE



We are about to start the Second Half of the Btln year, so I figured it was a good time for a Winston Standings Update! After fourteen weeks and two Majors Luke has the lead in the race for Winston, but the race is extremely close. With the race this close it is impossible to predict who will win! I can't wait to see how this will end!

12TH ANNUAL BTLN ALUMNI NIGHT



Alumni Night always has a different mix of guys, making every unique. This year we had 34 men at the 12th Btln Alumni Night! One of the highlights of Alumni Night is always giving away the Sergeant Jersey. This year it was Jeremy Feddersen's turn! Jeremy was the 11th Sergeant of Battalion 3739 in the 1997/98 Btln Season. Jeremy was the 20th Sergeant to receive his Jersey in our  "One forward and one back" Sergeant Jersey program! Congrats Jeremy!

We also added five names to the Btln Ring of Honour. This year we added the grads from 2004. Tim Feenstra, Mike Hughes, Kenny Johnson, Brad Pauls and Justin Thompson were all added to the Ring of Honour! It is not always possible to have the men that are being inducted available for Alumni Night, but that does not mean that we don't celebrate! (Maybe we will be able to have some of these Legends next year!) We were able to take a picture with Brad on the 24th, it is so good to add the names of these Btln Legends! Congrats to Tim, Mike, Kenny, Brad and Justin! We are all very proud of you!

As in the past, we played Murderball. The details are a little fuzzy now, it has been almost two weeks. We played five games, and I am pretty sure my team came out ahead 3-2! At least that is the way I remember it.

I am never sure if I should be making changes to our order of events on Alumni Night. This year I suggested that maybe we would not play British Bulldog. I was quickly informed by the group that we could not have Alumni Night without Bulldog!
Luke started in the middle for Bulldog, keeping another Alumni tradition alive. The current Sergeant is usually the one that starts in the middle for Alumni Bulldog.
It has to be the most dangerous Bulldog of the year! So many really big guys!
Joe Kraftchick was our Bulldog winner! Congrats Joe!

We finished the night visiting in the Youth room. It was so good to watch the guys sharing stories and laughing together! I can't wait until next year!
