BTLN UPDATE
Congrats T-Square! Tristan has his third Helmet of the 2011/12 Btln 3739 Season! Tristan is having a huge second half! Tristan has won all three of his Helmets in the Second Half!
This week we played the Btln Trifecta! We started with Extreme Bulldog. I have never won Bulldog to the Extreme... until Wednesday night! Ben's team had the early lead but Jere's and my team stormed back for the win! Next up was Handball. We built a big 6-2 lead over Ben's team but they returned the favour and also stormed back to win. The series was tied and we needed to play Murderball to settle the score. Jere's team had the early lead but Ben's team again came back and finished us off for the Btln Trifecta win!
In Bible study we continued our series "Entrust to Reliable Men" as we looked at Jeremiah. (Jeremiah 1:4-10, Jeremiah 20:1-6, Jeremiah 36:1-32, Jeremiah 38:1-13)
Jeremiah 36:1-3 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Take a scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you concerning Israel, Judah and all the other nations from the time I began speaking to you in the reign of Josiah till now. Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, each of them will turn from his wicked way; then I will forgive their wickedness and their sin.”
Jeremiah 36:22-24 It was the ninth month and the king was sitting in the winter apartment, with a fire burning in the firepot in front of him. Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes.
King Jehoiakim's response to Jeremiah's and God's plea was indicative of the nation's(Judah)attitude towards God and Jeremiah.
Jeremiah followed God and persevered even though the people didn't respond. Jeremiah's ministry lasted thirty-nine years and Judah continued in their evil ways. We need to continue to do God's work even if we don't see results!
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We need to run with perseverance(like Jeremiah)the race marked out for us! Even if we have to endure shame!(It will never be as bad as the shame that Jesus endured for us!)
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
God showed great patience with the nation Judah and he also does with us!
Nate was in the middle for Bulldog and he did an amazing job taking guys down! In the first round Nate took out Nathan! A few rounds later we were crowning Tristan with the Helmet! Congrats T-Square!
Only five weeks left in the 2011/12 Btln Season! Let's make the most of them!

BTLN UPDATE
Nate took a ball to the face that left it's mark but that didn't stop him from winning his first ever Helmet! Congrats Nate!
The night started with the old man taking the boys to the cleaners in a game of American 21! (I don't beat these guys very often so I gotta brag while I can.)
Next up was the lineup and we had this weird clapping thing going on, there was an applause for just about everything we were announcing.(Until we announced that Battalion would be down one week during spring break. This was to a chorus of boos.)
In our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men" we took a closer look at Samson.(Judges chapter 13 to the end of Judges chapter 16.)
Judges 13:1-5 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, so the Lord delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was sterile and remained childless. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son. Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean, because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”
God had a plan for Samson's life. He was to be set apart to God! God has a plan for our lives as well! He also wants us to be set apart to him!
Samson did begin the deliverance of Israel but probably could have accomplished so much more for God if he had stayed away from Delilah.
In the end Samson does defeat the Philistines but what a tragic end! Samson dies along with his enemies!
Judges 16:23-30 Now the rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to celebrate, saying, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands.”
When the people saw him, they praised their god, saying,
“Our god has delivered our enemy
into our hands,
the one who laid waste our land
and multiplied our slain.”
While they were in high spirits, they shouted, “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.
When they stood him among the pillars, Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “O Sovereign Lord, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.
I pray that we would follow God's plan for our lives and make the most of every opportunity!
Murderball was the game tonight and my team got worked over! (I even had Jeremy and Joe on my team.) We won the last game but that was small consolation. My team lost 3 games to 1.
Zach was in the middle for Bulldog and the leaders were some of the first to go. In the end it was Nate rising to the top to get the Helmet! Congrats again to Nate!
After almost everyone had gone home Zach quoted the entire Memory Work list in order! It was amazing! No one has ever recited every passage on the list! And Zach did it all on one night! Zach has done some amazing things at Battalion but this one tops them all! Congrats Zach! We here at the blog salute you!
The picture of Zach is with all of his Yorkie bar wrappers. (Seventeen of them!)

Next up was the Ping Pong Tourney and as you can tell from the pictures Jordan wasn't able to make it. Zach was the runner up on the side of the bracket that Jordan had won so he had a second chance at another Btln Major! Zach took the first game. In the second the guys both had multiple game points before Zach finally took the game and a big lead. Zach finished off Spencer in the third game and took his third Btln Major of the year! Zach has won The Royal Rumble, The Btln Olympics and The Btln Ping Pong Tourney! Zach tied Ben as the only Btln Members to have won three Btln Majors in one season! Zach also achieved his seventh Helmet to beat the record of six set by Sam Schiesser and tied by Chris Henderson! What a year for Zach! Congrats Zach, you have earned it!
Thanks again to everyone that showed up tonight, it was a great night!

Congrats to Jordan Hammett and Spencer Henderson for making it to the Ping Pong final! The final will be played Sunday night after Battalion Night. 21 guys competed in then tourney now we are down to two!
The one bracket had Spencer, Nathan and Landon in the Semi's and the other side of the bracket had Zach, Max and Jordan. The Ping Pong was better this year, it looked as if guys had been practising. Both Max and Nathan nearly knocked out Jordan and Spencer, there was some good Ping Pong being played. It was a great night, we had snacks and Ping Pong for most of the night.(Pizza, chips, cookies, pop, and deep fried Mars bars! Thanks Sam!) Once we were done with Ping Pong we headed into the gym to play some Murderball. After a couple games of Murderball we had and impromptu game of free for all murderball it was awesome! Balls flying everywhere it was great! Anyways good night all around.

BTLN UPDATE
Cody has been so close so many times, this time he would not be denied! Congrats Cody! First Helmet of the season!
This week it was the Btln Trifecta! We started with Handball and my team jumped out to an early lead, it was 4-1. It seemed like we let off a little and before we knew it the score was 6-6! It was next goal wins and it didn't take long for Jeremy and Joe's team to complete the comeback! Ben and the Captain's team 6 - Jeremy and Joe's team 7. Next it was Murderball. We split the first two games, the score 1-1. The third and deciding game was close but in the end it was Jeremy and Joe's team again taking the victory! winning the Trifecta 2-0.(No need for the third leg(Extreme Bulldog)of the Trifecta.
This week in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men" we took a closer look at Peter.
(Matthew 4:18-20, Matthew 14:22-33, Matthew 16:13-17, Matthew 17:1-9, John 18:1-11, John 21:1-8, Acts 4:1-22, Acts 5:17-42)
Matthew 4:18-20 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Joe and I were talking about this passage. Imagine dropping everything to follow Jesus! There was no delay in Peter's response. He was immediately all in! We don't need to drop everything like Peter did, but we need to put Jesus first like Peter! We also need to be fishers of Men like Peter!
John 21:1-8 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Tiberias. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.
Peter could not wait for the boat to get to the shore! We need to be this desperate to spend time with Jesus! Do we make time to read our Bibles and to pray? Jesus is waiting for us just like he was for Peter.
Acts 4:18-20 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
Acts 5:41-42 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
Not only was Peter desperate to spend time with Jesus, he was also desperate to share Jesus!("We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.") Peter was willing to endure persecution to get the message out!
Imagine if we were all this desperate to share Jesus!
Last up was Bulldog. Jordan started in the middle and it didn't take long for him to take down most of the bigger guys! If we kept records for the quickest Bulldog games(The lowest round total.) it would have been close! It was amazing! In the end Cody Harp took the Helmet and the Yorkie! Congrats Cody!
Next week is the 17th Annual Btln Ping Pong Tourney!

BTLN UPDATE
Time again for an update! First off, sorry that this is late!(I was at YQ!) Congrats to Jordan on his third Helmet of the 2011/12 Btln season! Jordan is now tied for second place!
This week we played Murderball! (We haven't played Murderball enough in the second half.) The teams were closely matched and the series was 2-1 for Ben's team when we played one of those marathon games that seemed like it was not going to end. It went back and forth, but in the end Ben's team outlasted us winning the series 3-1.(We were totally gassed!)
In Bible study we took a look at Paul in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men". (Acts 16:16-34, 2 Corinthians 11:24-28)
We read about Paul's sufferings in 2 Corinthians and about the time Paul and Silas went to prison in Philippi for freeing a slave girl from an evil spirit.
Acts 16:23-25 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
What an amazing reaction to a terrible situation! They were severely flogged, put in stocks and now they are praying and singing to God?
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Ephesians 5:19,20 Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Paul lived according to these passages! It didn't matter what situation he was in! How could he do this?
Philippians 1:21-24 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
To live is Christ and to die is gain! What an amazing statement! To Paul, Christ was the only thing to live and die for! What a Reliable Man of God!
The night ended with a sweet game of Bulldog! Zach was in the middle to start and he had plans to help Noah win Bulldog. Noah did make the final with Jordan but we had a controversial end. We had Noah and Jordan go to the bonus round and Jordan pulled out another big win! Congrats Jordan!
d-Pod made a special appearance! Thanks for coming out! (Love it when the Alumni show up!)

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT
First off congrats to Zach on his sixth Helmet of the 2011/12 Btln season! Zach has now tied the record set by Sam Schiesser and tied by Chris Henderson. Zach has two months to beat the record! Congrats Zach, you deserve the record! You earned it!
In Bible study Ben talked about Timothy and his relationship with Paul in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men". (1 Timothy and 2 Timothy)
Ben talked about how Paul mentored Timothy and how we all need older friends to mentor us as well. This is our goal at Battalion!
2 Timothy 1:2-14 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
This whole passage is full of Paul's advice to Timothy. ("I remind you you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you.")("Join with me in suffering for the gospel.")(What you have heard from me, keep as a pattern of sound teaching.)
This is the kind of friend we all need!
2 Timothy 2:1-3 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
More good advice from Paul to Timothy!(Where have I heard this passage before?)
Mike is always a classic. We had four teams of four and the game was close. After a few collisions and even more battles we had our winner, it was Zach's team! The guy hardly ever loses! The scores were 24-22-22-21.
We ended with Bulldog and like I said before, Zach was our winner! Congrats Zach!

BTLN UPDATE

Another week is in the books! First off congrats to T-Square on his second Helmet in the last 4 weeks! T-Square is on a roll!
This week we played Handball. Early on it looked like my team was going to easily take the win but Joe and Ben's team stormed back to win 9-7. I think that my team let up a little and couldn't get it back.(Prevent defense anyone?)
In the Bible study this week we took a look at Jonathan in our continuing series "Entrust to Reliable Men". (1 Samuel 14:1-14, 19:1-7, 20:1-42, 23:15-18)
Jonathan was a Reliable friend and very trustworthy. Even though Jonathan knew that David was going to take his throne he was alright with it. Most men would not be ok with their best friend taking their inheritance! Not only was Jonathan ok with it but he also stood up for David when his dad (King Saul) wanted to kill David. Jonathan almost died because of his loyalty to David.(King Saul threw his spear at Jonathan.)
1 Samuel 23:15-18 While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out to take his life. And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” The two of them made a covenant before the Lord. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh.
This is the kind of friend we all need! Jonathan helped David find strength in God! Jonathan knew God's will(regarding the kingdom of Israel)and he was going to follow it rather than fight it like his dad King Saul!
We ended the night with Bulldog and in the end it was Tristan outlasting Zach for his second Helmet of the season! Congrats Tristan!
Congrats also to Luke! Luke has brought five friends and got his 20 dollar gift card from D.Q.! Thanks Luke, you are making a difference!
Mike Night next week! Bring a friend!
