BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Anthony! This was Anthony's fourth Helmet of the Btln year! John, Alexei and Jacob were all vying for their first Helmet at the end, but could not beat Anthony this week! Anthony has now tied Josh for first in the race for Winston!

This week we played Stickball for the second time this half. We still had a bunch of guys that have never played Stickball (or Baseball?), so there was a bit of a learning curve. It is still so much fun to watch the guys playing Stickball! It was probably the closest finish that we have ever had!

Stickball Final Scores
Luke's Team - 12
Ben's Team - 11
Coady's Team - 11
John's Team - 8

This week in our Bible Study we looked at Caleb and Joshua, and focused in on how they trusted in God and not on their own abilities. (Numbers chapters 13 and 14)

Caleb and Joshua were among twelve men chosen from among all the men of Israel to spy on the land of Canaan.

Numbers 13:27-28   They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large.

Numbers 13:31-32   “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” 32 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.

The other ten men that were sent to spy on Canaan were afraid, and did not trust God for help to conquer the land of Canaan.

Numbers 13:30   Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

Numbers 14:5-9   Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there. Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”

Caleb and Joshua knew that with God's help that they could not lose! After watching all of the miracles that God had done to lead the Israelite nation out of Egypt, they knew that he would do the same as they entered the Promised Land!

Psalm 56:3-4   When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
