BTLN "POP N DOGS" AND SPRING FOOTBALL UPDATE

Congrats Logan! This was Logan's first Helmet ever! I checked the Btln Arkives to confirm. I was sure that Logan had won before, but this was actually his first Helmet ever! I am sorry that I didn't know this sooner. Congrats on your first Helmet Logan!

Spring Btln Football is one of the oldest Btln 3739 traditions. When spring comes around, the guys are tired of being inside and are happy to got to the field and play football.
My team had first possession and after a couple passes to Ryley we were in scoring position. Isaac (Neighbour) caught the first touchdown pass to give my team the 7-0 lead.
Ben's team promptly marched the ball down the field and Jakob caught the game tying touchdown, making the score 7-7.
Ben caught the 14-7 go ahead touchdown and I believe it was Keegan that intercepted me at the end of the game and ran the ball back for a touchdown to give Ben's team the 21-7 win!

This week Ben did the Bible study and the topic that he chose was "What a friend we have in Jesus".

Romans 5:6-8   You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans tells us that Jesus was willing to die for us while we were powerless, ungodly and sinners! We were not family, friends or even acquaintances to Jesus, but he was still willing to die for us!

Matthew 27:31-35    After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Matthew 27:38-44   Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

Matthew 27:45-53   From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Romans 3:23-24   For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

The Jews all needed saving, and instead of running to Christ for help they mocked, insulted and crucified him. Are we are not any different though? We all need saving as well! Will we run to Jesus for the help that only he can give? Jesus is the friend that was willing to die for us! We will not find another friend like him!
