BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Stephan! Dylan and Stephan were the final two in British Bulldog this week! Both guys battled hard but were both taken down on the last round. Stephan made it five yards further across the gym to take the win and the Helmet!

This week we played Murderball and had two very evenly matched teams! My team took the first two games fairly easily and it looked like we were going to do it again in the third game. We had Ben's team on the ropes before they came storming back for the win to make the series 2-1! With the momentum gained from the comeback win, Ben's team won the next two games pulling ahead 3-2! My team won the final game giving us a tie, which seemed fitting for Remembrance Day.

In Bible study we finished our series on Faith, Hope and Love. In the first two weeks we looked at Faith and Hope, this week we turned our attention to Love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8   Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

This passage in 1 Corinthians does a very thorough job of explaining what love is and what love is not. The worlds definition of love is the opposite to what is described in this passage.

1 John 4:7-11   Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

In this passage we learn that (1) Love comes from God, (2) God is Love, (3) God showed his Love by sending his only Son to die for us and (4) that we should Love each other because God Loved us!

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:7-8   Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:10   For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

In the book of John, Jesus tells us that the greatest way to show Love would be to die for one's friends. When Jesus died for us he took it one step further! He died for us when we were still his enemies so that we could be his friends!
