MEET THE NATION - GEOFF MARTENS
Do we overuse the term Legend here on the blog? It is possible, but who cares? Geoff is a Btln Legend in the truest sense of the word. Geoff has been Corporal, Sergeant(1989), Lieutenant and Captain of Btln 3739. Geoff kept Battalion running in the mid 90's when most people had given up on it. For this reason we here at the blog salute you Geoff!

BTLN UPDATE
Week 25 of the 2010/11 season is in the books! This week tried the Btln Trifecta again. We started with Handball and it didn't take long for team Chris(The King)(He had Geoff, Joe and Charles on his team.)to beat up on team Zach.(He had Ryley and the Captain on his team.) In Murderball it was a different story. Team Zach won games 1 and 2 and lost games 3 and 4.(Game 4 was a marathon it seemed to last forever, it was amazing!)Game 5 was over quickly, team Zach taking the win.(We didn't have time for Extreme Bulldog, the third leg of the Trifecta.)
In Bible study we looked at the parable of the Good Samaritan.(Luke 10:25-37) An expert in the law asked Jesus "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus' response was "What is written in the Law?" (We should go to God's word for answers. Jesus always did!)The Expert in the Law answered:
Luke 10:27 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind"; and, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Jesus was trying to show this expert that he needed help just like the man that was robbed in the parable. We are all helpless without God. Jesus was and is the only man to ever love God and his neighbor with all of his heart, soul, strength and mind. Without him it is not possible to love like he does. With his help we can love like this:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8b Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
We finished the night the way we always finish the night, with Bulldog! Chris started in the middle and with all of the bigger guys(Geoff, Joe and Charles.) making lanes for the smaller guys it took some time for Chris to finish us off. In the end it was Zach winning his fourth Helmet of the year! Congrats Zach!
It was good to have Geoff Martens(Sergeant 1989)join us for one night. We will have a "Meet the Btln Nation" with Geoff coming soon!

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - MARCH
Birthday time again on the blog!(Sorry that this is late Tyler.)Another year has gone by and one thing that hasn't changed is that God is still on your side! God is still looking out for you!
Romans 8:31b - If God is for us, who can be against us?
Hebrews 13:5b,6 - God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!

BTLN UPDATE
What a night! It is always amazing to have Alumni come back and help out! Sam phoned me last week asking if he could lead the Bible study and of course I was excited to give him a chance! Sam went through Battalion and now he is teaching! This is what Battalion is about! Sam had us reading stories about Samson, Paul, Gideon and Samuel. In each of these stories we were supposed to see that God doesn't require the strongest men or the people with the best reputation to do his work. He just requires that we are willing to do his work.
1 Samuel 16:7 - But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
Later Sam talked about rap and its place in our culture. He also talked about how we should pray for those in the rap industry as well as those around us. Sam reminded us that we are all the same and are in need of God's salvation!
Romans 3:23,24 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
It was Mike Night this week! We decided that we would play until one team made it to 50. The score was 49-46 for Joe and Chris's(The King)team. We had one final round were we threw out 9 balls and Charlie's team came up with 6 of them making the score 52-52! It was an amazing comeback! We needed to break the tie so we went one more round. It was Joe and Charles in the final round and Charles got a lucky bounce off of the strobe to take the victory!
If we had a play of the week at Battalion it would have to go to Zach this week. In Bulldog he knocked down three guys at the same time and then got up and took out one more guy and all in the same round! I have played a lot of Bulldog in my day but I don't think I have ever seen anyone take down three guys at the same time! It was amazing! He later took out Chris with one hand while laying on his back! Fortunately for Chris(The King)it didn't matter because he was still the last man standing! This win gives Chris his fifth Helmet of the year. Congrats Chris!
After Bulldog we had a little time left so we played Fire Fever Flood, a throwback to Stockade. While playing Charles some how managed punch or kick(Not sure what happened.)Joe in the face giving him a bleeding nose.(This is the contact in a non-contact sport thing, check out the Top Ten if you don't know what I am talking about.)(Insert the Welcome back Joe...I mean Kotter theme song here.) Anyways Charlie managed to beat Zach in the final round to win F.F.F. finishing another great night at Battalion!

BTLN UPDATE - BRIGADE NIGHT EDITION
The night started at the Twisted Tomato, it was our pregame meal before Brigade Night. Our Meal at the Twisted Tomato was dubbed "Pizza with Pike" by Ryley and Charles. This is a fitting name and will probably stick but only time will tell. There were around fifteen of us so we ordered 4 extra large Battalion Baconators(Is there anything else on the menu?)that we managed to finish.(It was looking doubtful at first as Dan wasn't pulling his weight. Dan only ate two slices of pizza!)
Next we made our way to the church. After Stockade had their turn on the stage it was time for our boys to recite their passages. Zach recited 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, GeRRald recited Ephesians 6:13-18, Cody recited 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and Maxwell recited Ephesians 1:3-14. I am so proud of you guys! Good Work!
Chris(The King) and Zane were next on the stage, and it was their job to read out the 2011 Btln Top Ten.
Top Ten ways that you know that you are at Battalion 3739.
10)If it smells like pizza and b.o.
9)If there is a lot of grunting and other many noises.
8)If you are on your way to Castlegar Boston Pizza at midnight.
7)If you are on the bottom of a dog pile.
6)If you are drinking from the Director's Cup.
5)If all you get for winning a belly flop competition is a chocolate bar.
4)If you are being tackled in a non-contact sport.
3)If those around you consider the Bulldog a noble creature.
2)If you are using a bag of frozen peas as an ice pack.
1)If Ryley Heppner is there!
After attempting to watch the pictures it was Howards turn and his focus was the commissioning of Dan Trithardt as his assistant. It is good to see 3739 Alumni making a difference in their world! Congrats Dan, again I am proud of what you are doing!
The second time through we were able to watch the powerpoint and then on to the Ping Pong Final! Zane and Jordan played one of the closest matches that I can ever remember in Btln Ping Pong history! It was a best of five games series.(The games were first to 11.) Jordan took the first game and then Zane took the next two making it 2 games to 1 for Zane. Jordan then took the fourth game forcing a fifth game. Jordan jumped out to an early 5-1 lead but Zane came back to make it 9-9 in the final game! The fifth game ended 11-9 for Zane giving him the win! Congrats to both Zane and Jordan! It was nerve racking to watch and was very good Ping Pong!
Lastly I would like to thank all the Members of the Btln Nation that came out for Brigade Night! It was a good showing and a lot of fun!

2010 BTLN TOP TEN
Do you remember last years top ten? Well, here it is. Enjoy!
TOP TEN FUNNIEST BATTALION MOMENTS
10)The time Ryley Heppner spent 10 hours in the Jepsen's hot tub and broke out in a rash.
9)The time when Bruce and Sammy Jepsen fell out of their motorboat at the May Long and the boat circled with no one in it for two hours.
8)The time Ben Jepsen ate a Happy Meal in two bites.
7)The times Ryley has eaten various things for money like beetles and vegetables. Vegetables being the more challenging items.
6)The time Kenny Johnson ran into the soccer pole at the high school.
5)The time Calvin Peters accidentally kicked a dodge ball into Kenny Johnson's face. (Poor Kenny you're a trooper.)
4)The time Jason Hayashi ACTUALLY got a waitresses name tag at Boston Pizza.
3)The time Devin Chursinoff got girls to write their phone numbers on his arms at Creation Fest.(Before he started dating Brittany Pauls of course.)
2)The time Charlie Langis had to wear a "Free Hugs" shirt at a concert at Creation Fest.
1)The time Ben Jepsen and Jason Hayashi did that weird puppet show instead of the "Top Ten" for Brigade Night.
Hopefully this year the top ten can live up to the high standard set by others from the past!(Al Martens, Joe Kraftchick, Owen Spisak, Ben Jepsen, Jason Hayashi and Charlie Langis to name a few.)

Take a close look at this collage, lots of good memories from Brigade Night in years past! Enjoy these, many more memories to make this year!

BTLN UPDATE - THE PING PONG TOURNEY
Congratulations to Zane and Jordon on making it to the Final of the 16th Annual Btln Ping Pong Tourney! 18 guys competed in the Tourney and now we are down to two. Jordon defeated Chris(The King)in the semi's and Zane beat GeRRald to make it to the final. Thanks to everyone who came out and competed!
Ping Pong ruled the night but while the guys were waiting their turn in the tourney we tried glow in the dark basketball for the first time in years. We had two glow in the dark basketballs, glow sticks on the rims and on our arms. I think it was OK but probably not destined to be a classic like Bulldog, Murderball or Mike.
Next up is Brigade(Battalion)Night this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.(come early 6:15 p.m.)at the church. We will have pictures from the last year, Btln Top Ten, some of our guys will recite passages, Ryley will be singing in the men's choir, other Btln Alumni will be present(Possibly Dan T., Jason H., Charlie L. and Sammy J.! We are bringing in the big guns!), there will be snacks and we will have the Ping Pong Final!
Remember to were your Btln shirt!
