30th Year Celebration

 

 

 

There is going to be a Brigade meeting tonight in connection with our 30th year celebration. John Launstein(C.S.B. President), Howard Pike(B.C. Rep.) and Bill Wong(Former B.C. Rep.) will all be in G.F. tonight to help us celebrate 30 years. All Leaders both past and present are invited as well as any guys who went through the program. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m., see you there!

Sammy has finished the verses for the first time and Zac will finish the verses for the first time on Sunday! Both of these guys will receive their Battalion Medallion on Sunday night. Way to go guys!

PING PONG UPDATE

 

 

 

It is strange to see the guys playing floor hockey at Battalion isn't it? When I went to Battalion that was all that we played, but we quit playing floor hockey around fifteen years ago.(We kinda ran out of room) Big Chris was surprised to see hockey sticks in the equipment room.(The sticks have always been there, I guess they are more noticeable in the stick rack.)
We had ordered a Ping Pong table for the tourney and it finally showed up today, so Sammy and I put it together before Btln tonight. Thanks for the help Sam! The Ping Pong tourney started with 25 guys and after tonight there are two guys left standing. Parker and D-pod are in the final on Sunday, it should be a good battle. Congrats to both, this will be the second time in the final for both guys, only difference is Parker won the first time he played in the final(against Jason) and D-pod lost(against Ball).
There is more to write, but it is getting late and tomorrow is another day.

14th ANNUAL BTLN PING PONG TOURNEY

 

Can't believe that this will be number 14! Lots of good memories over the years, I wish that I had taken more pictures. There have been 8 winners over the last 13 years, Courtenay and Nathan won it twice each and Calvin was the champ 4 years in a row! Who will win this year? Can Parker return to the form that saw him win in the 05/06 season? Will D-Pod finally win now that Nathan is out of the way? Is there someone else that can take the title? BTLN UPGRADES

 

 

Battalion had a couple of upgrades this week. First Charlie and his dad designed and built a hockey stick rack. The rack is sweet, it looks pro and works even better than it looks. It really cleans up a lot of the clutter. Stockade plays hockey every week so it will get used a lot. Secondly Btln purchased an arm wrestling table, we figured for the fifteenth Btln Olympics that we should upgrade the arm wrestling. This year has been amazing, so many upgrades for Btln and a few more still to come.

Stevie pulls out the win in B-dog! That is three for the year!
We had the ping pong tables out last night,(it is awesome to have the equipment room to store our gear in)so the guys could practise for the Ping Pong Tourney next week.
It was cheese burgers last week and this week we had pizza for the R.B.C., we also handed out Bibles to some of the guys that didn't have one.
Jeremy led the Bible study and we have now moved from first Timothy in to second Timothy.

2Timothy 1:12 - Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.

Jeremy talked how we are not good enough to get into heaven on our own and that we are not good enough to keep ourselves saved either.

1Peter 1:5 - Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

We are kept by the power of God! He saves us and he keeps us!
Jonathan asked me if we were going to play deathball, that had me laughing, of course my answer was yes. Deathball(formerly known as murderball) was a little lopsided, my team taking it on the chin. After we played a few rounds we played leaders against the boys and the score is now Leaders 1 - Boys 1.
After the night was over a few of the guys adjourned to the dubber. When we were there Sammy explained to us The Walk of Life. Way to deep, cannot explain it all here(ask Sammy to explain it to you).
Remember next week is the Ping Pong tourney, come early!

Josh Trainer is in the Canadian Armed Forces and when he was in town at Christmas(at the Btln Alumni)he asked if we would put some stickers from his troop on the Ark. Of course we thought that it was a good idea, so here they are! We are proud of all of the guys who have spent time at Battalion and there is no exception when it comes to Josh. Josh is risking his life for the freedom that we enjoy here in Canada. For this we can all be thankful. Don't forget to pray for his safety!

BTLN UPDATE

 

Here it is, the Btln Update. With two wins in the last three weeks Steve is making a late charge for the Winston Bulldog Championship. Congrats Steve! There are ten weeks left in the 08/09 Btln season and there are three guys with three helmets and four guys with two helmets, it is going to be an amazing finish! Sammy was the b-dog and he was jumping on the backs of guys and taking them down, it was amazing you should have seen his hops. I don't think that I have ever seen Sammy that aggressive.
In the squad meetings we talked about work and contentment, here are some of the passages.

2Thessalonians 3:10 - For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

1Timothy 6:6-8 - But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

Colossians 3:23,24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will recieve an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

We need to work hard and then be content with what we have.
We played handball and I was playing net, did I ever take a beating! Blake and Nathan were hucking bombs, it was intense, they had me flinching. The game was close and a lot of guys were getting involved, it was awesome.
The guys have been working hard on the Bible verses, it is very encouraging!

FOOTBALL FIELD?

 

I was scoping out Google earth when I noticed the soccer field(left side of picture)only a few blocks from B.C. Place. I am not sure why we didn't know about this field, who knows maybe it isn't there anymore. If it is there it would be the perfect place to play the Director's Cup. Pike could have the tailgater there as well seeing as they won't let him do it in the parking lot anymore. Looks like we will have a field and a team(Langley)to play! The Lions schedule is out and it looks like there are only two possibilities, Saturday September 19 vs. Toronto and Saturday October 31 vs. Calgary. Anyways I thought that the field was good news.

SWORD AND A TORCH?

 

 

The sword and the torch are both symbols for God's word, this is why they both appear on our shield. So we were talking about Battalion(you know those moments)and we decided that we need a torch and a sword. We figured that we could have them displayed in our room. The torch pictured here is a replica from the original Olympic games in Athens in 1896.

Bent was asking for the Winston standings so here they are. The race for Winston is very tight this year, I never expected it to be this close, it is going to make for a very exciting finish.

FARM REPORT

 

 

 

Stockade has always been important to Battalion. Most of the guys at Battalion had their start at Stockade and it was the biggest reason why they first attended Battalion. Geoff Gobbett is the Chief Ranger(Head Coach and General Manager), the program Geoff runs is awesome, the group averages between 15-20 boys every Thursday night. One of the top prospects to make the move up to Battalion next year is Lucas Boschmann, grade 6. Luke will get his first call up on the Last night of the 08/09 Battalion season! Make sure to pray for the boys and leaders of Stockade!

AND THE WINNER IS .......

 

 

 

Ryley and Nathan were the only two guys that saw 20,000 visitors, so tonight we put both names into the Helmet and pulled one out and Nathan was the winner of the iPod! Congrats to Nathan!
Tonight was the first time playing murderball in the second half, I have missed it. We made the teams like we always do but after four or five games we decided to play leaders verses boys. I underestimated how tough it would be for us to beat the boys. The boys pretty much took it to us. Next time I expect a better result. Boys 1 - Leaders 0.
In Bible study tonight we talked about respect for others and how we should treat people.

1Timothy 5:1,2 - Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

After Bible study it was time for B-dog. After the guys took me out I tried to get in the way of Jake, big mistake! Jake sent me flying, I didn't slow him down at all, it was amazing! After many rounds Sammy took the win and the Helmet! Way to go Sammy!
The guys had quite a few passages tonight, I love the memory-work, there isn't anything better than listening to guys recite God's word!
Owen is back in town, which is a blessing. It is always nice when Alumni come home.
Anyone that has ever tried to get a drink from the fountain by the gym will be happy to know that Charlie, Owen and Jeremy were able to turn up the flow on the fountain and you can actually take a drink now!
Another good night at Battalion, can't wait until next week!
