BTLN UPDATE

 

 

Congrats Dylan! Dylan has been close to winning the Helmet so many times lately. It was fitting that he was the one to win this week! Nate was there at the end, but this week was Dylan's time to shine!

 

We played Murderball for the second time this year. (I could play every week!) The first game was one of the longest we have played in a long time!  (Dan's team beat us in an epic battle!) In the second game we had our revenge! The score was 1-1. In the third we had Dan's team on the ropes before they battled back from one man left! They could not complete the come back though, losing that third game as well as the fourth. My team winning 3-1!

 

 

In Bible study we looked at 1 John 5:13.

 

1 John 5:13   I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

 

The question was and is, can we know that we have eternal life?

 

Hebrews 2:14-15   Jesus shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

 



There are so many people going through life not knowing what their eternal destiny is! This must be awful to go through life not knowing were you will go when you die!

Romans 10:9-10   If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Eternal life is for everyone that believes that Jesus lived, died and rose gain for their sins! It is so simple! God knew that he had to do it all for us! All we have to do is believe! Then we don't have to fear death!

1 Corinthians 15:55   “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”


Next week we are James Donaldson Park playing baseball "Under the Lights"! There will be hot dogs and hot chocolate!

BTLN UPDATE - SERGEANT INDUCTION NIGHT

 

 

Congrats to Ben Nicolson, the 28th Sergeant of Btln 3739! Ben officially became Sergeant this Wednesday night at Btln! Ben Jepsen, Jason Hayashi and Devin Chursinoff were there to present Ben his Jersey! (Three awesome examples for Ben to follow!)

Congrats also to Jakob! Jake won the Helmet for the first time this year! It was Ben, Noah and Jake at the end, with Jake outlasting Ben and Noah. I think we are going to be hearing a lot from these guys this year!

We played Handball for the first time this year. Ben's team jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but my team battled back to take a 15-14 lead! In the end though, Ben's team was too strong, beating us 23-19!

This week in Bible study we looked at the story of Job. (Job 1:6-22) Our title was "God is in charge!"

It important for us to notice that Satan still answers to God. Even though Satan hates God he must still answer to him, God is still in control!

Job 1:6-7   One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”

After God brags about Job, he allows Satan to test Job. God puts limitations on what Satan can do to Job.

Job 1:12   The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Satan is allowed to take everything from Job other than his wife and his own life! Job's response is amazing!

Job 1:20-22   At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

Job worships God!

Why would God allow this to happen to Job? It is not easy for us to understand. We know that God is watching out for us, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

1 Corinthians 10:13   No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

God will help us endure the storms of life!

Hebrews 13:5b-6   God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

BTLN UPDATE - POOL PARTY

 

 

 

Congrats to Nathan, the 2015 Btln Belly Flop Champion! It was Nathan's first ever Helmet! There were five guys in the semi-final, Nathan, Ben, Tyson, Jacob S. and I can't remember the fifth. Nathan and Ben earned their way into the final, belly flopping for the third time in one night! Ben missed on his last attempt and Nathan nailed his third, taking win!

 

Earlier in the night the guys were wrestling on the tubes, it was awesome! There were tubes flipping, elbows and knees flying, it was crazy!  The noise level was high all night. The pool was 90 degrees Fahrenheit!

 

There was Menno on the BBQ and ice cream cake from DQ, chips and pop in the basement after we were done swimming.



Two weeks in the books already! Next week we are back at the gym!

BTLN UPDATE - FIRST NIGHT

First Helmet of the new Btln season goes to Ben! Congrats Ben! At the end it was Ben, Noah and Nate (the usual cast of characters) battling it out for Bulldog supremacy! With Lukas and Jonathan out of the way, these three should be considered the favourites for Winston!

First Night wouldn't be right if we didn't play Murderball. I am hoping that we will be able to play Murderball more this year. It seems that in the last couple of years we haven't played Murderball enough.
The teams were close this week, but my team just seemed to have the edge. My team was up 2-0 when Noah showed up and tipped the scale in Ben's favour. It was 2-1 when my team battled back to take the night 3-1!

In Bible study we looked at Saul's conversion. (Acts 9:1-30)

It is hard to believe how bad Saul was before God got ahold of him!

Acts 26:9-11   “I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities.

It is awesome to see Jesus interrupt Saul's plans and turn his (Saul's) life around!

Acts 9:3-6   As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Saul's (and our own) conversion should bring to mind this next passage.

Romans 5:8-10   But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! or if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

God saved Saul even though he was his enemy!

1 Timothy 1:15-16   Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

Saul's conversion was supposed to be an example for us! If Jesus was willing to save the chief of sinners he will also save us!

Acts 9:20-25   At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him.  But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

Only God could take a murderer and turn him into a difference maker! Saul went from being hunter to the hunted! Saul was now preaching about Jesus in the same synagogues that he had been trying to capture Christians!
God will do the same for us! We just need to follow God's Word and share it with others! God will make us difference makers!

CREATION 2015 - SATURDAY & SUNDAY

We probably spent more time playing Risk and swimming on Saturday than we did any other day. We invented our own version of water football that was awesome to play and very tiring! We didn't watch as many concerts on Saturday, because the guys were getting tired. Lincoln Brewster was first, and then it was time for Lecrae! Lecrae ended Creation 2015 with a long set, one of the longest I have ever seen! It was hard to take pictures during Lecrae because the crowd was super hyped, it was a blast!
Sunday we was a travel day that had a trip to the mall and Red Robin.

Creation 2015 was amazing! Can't wait for Creation 2016! Only 360 day away!

CREATION 2015 - FRIDAY

On Friday hip hop/rap was front and center at Creation. There was Shonlock, NF, Tedashii, Capital Kings and Tobymac! Shonlock, NF and Tedashii all played back to back to back on the Fringe Stage! The one exception to the hip hop on Friday was Peter Furler. It was fun to hear Peter play some of the "Old Newsboys" songs again. Toby always brings his A game and never disappoints! Some Old school songs with Toby and a couple new ones as well. Toby ended his set with confetti, which is always a blast! Cross Trax made an appearance on Friday night, making for a very late night. (We ate five bags of fries as well as a block and a half of cheese!)

CREATION 2015 - THURSDAY

 

 

On Thursday the music started and it did not disappoint! We watched Blanca, Red and Switchfoot on the Main Stage. Blanca was good, but was not at the same level as Red or Switchfoot. Thursday's highlights had to be having both Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) and Michael Barnes (Red) sing a song in the crowd! Just when we thought that the night couldn't get any better Jon Foreman took our "Where I Belong" flag with him on stage!

CREATION 2015 - WEDNESDAY

It has already been more than a week since the end of Creation 2015! Wednesday was highlighted by a trip to Wal-Mart to buy food for the week and lunch at Red Robin. Not sure when the crazy pictures at Wal-Mart started, but they have become part of Btln Creation tradition. Grabbing products off of the shelves and posing with them never gets old. While we were at Red Robin, Ben and Noah told our waiter that it was GeRRald's birthday! Four workers from Red Robin came to our table with ice cream for GeRRald, singing Happy Birthday! (A surprise to everyone at the table other than Noah and Ben.)
A couple of hours later we were in Tri-Cities setting up camp. (The four hour drive is so much better than the seven hour drive to Enumclaw.) After setting up camp I showed the guys the new Btln Creation 2015 shirts. Jonathan was pumped because this year we added a pig to the shirt. (I wish that we had Jonathan's reaction on video.)
Later we went to the main venue and checked out the merch and then our first day was over!

Here we are nearing the end of July and I am finally getting the July birthday post together. The summer is almost half gone! Just looking at these pictures reminds me that I am so blessed to be able to call these men my friends!

2015 BTLN MEMORY WORK LEGENDS

This year we set a new Btln 3739 record for total number of Btln Members that completed the Memory Work in a single year! The previous record was six Btln Members and this year we had eight! It is so exciting to have so many guys completing the Memory Work!

This year Jonathan moved ahead of Btln Legends; Devan England, Ben Jepsen, Devin Chursinoff, Zach Gobbett and Gerrald Nicholson. Jonathan has now moved into second place all time!

Ben has now completed the MW four times and both Noah and Luke have finished it three times. This year we also had four Btln Members complete the MW for the first time! Four first timers is also a new Btln 3739 MW record for a single year! (The previous record was three.) Congrats to Lukas, Jakob, Stephan and Dolan, who all completed the MW for the first time!

The MW has now been completed 69 times combined! I am so proud of everyone on this list! A Btln salute to everyone on this list!

BTLN UPDATE - MAYLONG 2015

Maylong 2015 was special for many reasons! For starters, by my calculations it was the 35th Maylong Campout for Btln 3739! Secondly, I am sure we set a record for combined distance traveled to attend a Maylong! Ryley flew home from Florida for the Maylong! A Btln Salute for Ryley! We also had Ryley's dad Rick, Tyler, Derrick, Jake, Travis and the Pods! We actually had about 35 guys on Treadmill this year! I also should mention, that for the first time we had hot shaves on the beach! Jake was giving hot shaves to anyone that wanted one! I missed out this year, but I am hoping that Jake and his razor's will be making a return to the Maylong in the future!

This year we also had the tenth annual Maylong Cribbage Tourney! There were four two-time Champions before this year and now, Devin has become the fifth two-time Champion! Devin and Noah defeated Abe and Rick (2-0) in the final to claim the Cribbage Trophy! Congrats to Devin and Noah!

The Maylong is also the traditional end to the Memory Work competition. This year Jonathan, Noah, Ben and Jakob completed the Memory Work at the Maylong! For Jakob, it was his first time finishing the Memory Work! Congrats Jakob! Welcome to the world of gentlemen!

The Maylong Regatta is now in it's fourth year and has become one of the favourite events at the Maylong. This year, Riley and Phoenix's boat was first to make it to the bridge! Congrats to Riley and Phoenix! Noah was second and Lukas was third. Watching the guys chase their boats through the creek is awesome! I think we will be making some changes for next years Maylong Regatta! Can't wait!

I can't believe that it is May already! We are already less than two weeks from our annual Btln May Long Campout! So many stellar guys having birthdays this month! With so many guys having birthdays there are hundreds of pictures! It is so hard to choose between pictures, so we have a collage with a hundred pictures!
