71,000?

We have surpassed 70,000 Visitors here on the blog! The problem is there isn't anyone who has proof that they actually saw 70,000. So we are going to try again at 71,000! If you are a part of the Btln 3739 Nation and you can get a picture of 71,000 Visitors then we will put your name into a draw for a 16 GB iPod Nano!
Good luck to all!

BTLN UPDATE

What a night! (Do I start posts this way to often?) Sam Jepsen(2010 Btln 3739 Sergeant)and a couple of his friends from Briercrest made a special appearance on Wednesday night! Love it when the Alumni can make it out on a Wednesday night! (Gumby also made an appearance!)

We started the night with a big game(20-25 guys?) of Bump. J-man took out nearly half of the guys and the victory!

The Btln Trifecta was on the agenda again this week! We started with Murderball. Ben's team took the first two games easily getting the win in Murderball. Next was Handball. J-Man's team was down 4-1 early but fought back to tie it up at 5-5! Ben's team was able to regain the momentum and would not be denied taking the win 7-5 and the Trifecta 2-0!

In Bible study this week we took a look into Jacob's life in our continuing series "The History of the World" or "His Story". (Genesis 25:19-34, Genesis 27:1-40)

It is interesting to look at the way Jacob's story starts.

Genesis 25:29-34  Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom.) Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright. “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”  But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.

At first Jacob was the kind of man that would take advantage of others. He bought his brothers birthright for a bowl of stew! Next Jacob goes a step further and he lies to his father Isaac so that he can steal Esau's blessing!
God is not pleased with Jacob but he does not give up on him! Shortly after Jacob stole Esau's blessing this is what God tells Jacob.

Genesis 28:13-15   “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

God still had a plan for Jacob's life! God knew that Jacob would serve him and become a great man!

1 Samuel 16:7b  The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

God will not give up on us! God has big plans for our lives! We only need to serve him and let him fulfill his plans for us!

We finished the night the same way we always do! With Bulldog! John Van was our winner outlasting everyone to take his first Helmet of the year! Congrats John!

Apparently only Mitch saw 70,000 visitors and he doesn't have proof so we will have to do it all over again at 71,000!

Pizza and S*A*M* next week!

BTLN UPDATE - ROYAL RUMBLE VIII

Congrats to Max on his victory in the Royal Rumble! Congrats also go out to Nate who took the Lighweight division!
Forty-five guys competed for the belt in this years Royal Rumble tying 2007(Royal Rumble III)for the most guys ever to compete for the belt in the Royal Rumble! We had 23 Lighweights(grades 7-9)and 22 Heavyweights(grades 10-12)!
The last three in the ring were Cody, GeRRald and Max. GeRRald and Max joined forces to try and take out Cody. It was not an easy task, Cody fought hard but in the end it was the brothers battling it out for wrestling supremacy! GeRRald had the early advantage, nearly taking the win but Max was able to use his feet to flip his brother out of the ring! Max's final move was probably the best move to ever end the Royal Rumble!
So many guys giving everything they had, competing until the end! It was awesome to watch!
It was a lot of fun having so many young guys(grade 7's)that had never seen the ring or competed in the Royal Rumble before!

Thanks to all the leaders that helped out! Special thanks to Ben, Jason and Jake who helped set and tear down! We couldn't do it without you!
Again congrats to Max, the 2012 Royal Rumble Champion!

Like in the past there will be two weight classes. Grades 7-9 in the Lightweight Division and grades 10-12 in the Heavyweight Division.

Make sure that you are early!

Remember, Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Austin! First ever Helmet! The way that Austin hustles it won't be his last!
Nate was in the middle and with so many guys, being the bulldog is never easy. Good job Nate!

This week we had Devin Chursinoff(Sarge 08) make a special appearance! So stoked to have the Alumni show up on a Wednesday night! When the night was over Dalton Erixon also showed up to hang out for a bit, just never get tired of seeing these guys!

This week we played the Btln Trifecta! We started with Handball. Jay and Devin's team was down most of the game until the end when they roared back to win 9-7! Next was Murderball and this time it was Ben and Nathan's team that took the win, 2 games to nothing. We completed the Trifecta with a round of Extreme Bulldog. Jason started in the middle for his team and John was in the middle for Ben's team. Extreme Bulldog is a game that I have never won and sadly my streak is still alive. Ben's team was to big and to fast for Jason's team beating us badly and taking the Trifecta 2-1!

In Bible study we looked at Abraham in our continuing series "The history of the world" or
"His Story". (Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 18:16-19, Genesis 22:15-18, Galatians 3:6-18, Hebrews 11:8-19)

After man failed at the fall, before the flood and after the flood God still continued his plan of redemption. God chose Abraham to be the patriarch of the Jewish nation. The nation that the Redeemer would come from!

Genesis 12:1-4a  The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.So Abram left, as the Lord had told him;

Do you ever wonder why God chose Abraham? It is because he didn't question God!

Galatians 3:6-9  Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

What good news! We are blessed through and with Abraham because of his offspring, Jesus Christ!

Ben Nicolson won twenty bucks because he had his Creation wrist band on the longest! Congrats Ben!

Next week is Royal Rumble VIII! Make sure that you are early!

P-DUB - THANKSGIVING

We all have many things to be thankful for. Our salvation through Jesus Christ, family, shelter, food and the many freedom's that we all enjoy. I am also very thankful for every boy that God has brought to Btln 3739! We are so blessed to be able to get together every week! Thanks be to God!

Psalm 95:1-7  Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

First off, Congrats to Nate on his first Helmet of the year and the second of his Btln 3739 career! (This pic is from last year, my camera had a dead battery.) Max was in the middle for Bulldog and he had this Blitzkrieg attack going on, it seemed to work for him because before long it was Nate standing alone!
Mike Night is always awesome and this time around we had to train the rookies how to play! Jake B. and Luke M. head butted each other on the second round of the game! The game was close until we added the bonus ball. T-Squares team picked up the bonus ball 3 out of 4 times! After that it wasn't even close! (Note to self, no need for a bonus ball.)
This week was also shirt night and I am happy to say that we will be ordering more shirts because of the good response! Good job Ben and Jay!
In Bible study we continued our series "The History of the World" or "His Story". This week we looked at the tower of Babel.(Genesis 11:1-9)
After the flood the hearts of people didn't change, they still were pride full and wanted to do things their own way.
Genesis 11:4  They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
These people were not interested in worshiping God or following his commands, they were only interested in making a name for themselves! It is a wonder that God has put up with the human race for so long!
Psalm 103:8-13  The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Almost forgot to mention that both Zach and Jake were back! So stoked!
It is Royal Rumble VIII in two weeks!

BTLN UPDATE - GERRALD NICHOLSON, 25TH SERGEANT OF BTLN 3739

Congrats GeRRald! GeRRald is the 25th Sergeant of Battalion 3739! Btln 3739 is lucky to have GeRRald as our Sergeant! You have earned it GeRRald! GeRRald was the ninth Sergeant to receive his Sergeant Jersey in our "One Forward and One Back" Sergeant Jersey Program. (Joe Kraftchick will be getting his Jersey later this year! Can't wait!)
It was a busy week, we also had Charlie Langis making a special appearance! I just love it when the Alumni come out on a Wednesday Night! It was good to throw balls at Charlie again! We sure do miss you Charles! (Charlie just recently got engaged to Alina Demers! Congrats Charles!)
This week we played Murderball and it seemed like we couldn't get the teams right. First the J-Man's team was winning big and then it was Charlie and Ben's team that couldn't lose. Either way Murderball is still my favourite! I could play it every week!
This week we looked at the story of Noah and the flood in our series "The History of the World" or "His Story". (Genesis chapters 6,7,8 & 9:1-17)
Often times when we read the story of the flood we think of God's wrath and punishment of sin.

Genesis 6:9-13  This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.

It had been around 1600 years since the "fall of mankind" in the garden of Eden and instead of turning to God the people turned away from him.

Romans 1:28  And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.

How great is God's mercy! God did not destroy these people right away! God gave those generations before the flood 1600 years to change their collective hearts but he also waited while the ark was being built for 120 years!

1 Peter 3:20b  God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.

As if this wasn't enough God gave the people one more sign! God paraded the animals into the ark for a week! And not one person joined Noah and his family on the ark!
God is also gracious to us, we only need to accept his forgiveness for our sins! How long will God continue to be patient? It has now been more than 2000 years since Jesus' death and resurrection! (That's 400 years more than the people before the flood had!)

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

In Bulldog this week we had Spenny starting in the middle. With his size it made walking in the first round a bad idea! A lot of the bigger guys went down early and it looked like one of the smaller guys might win but Max was able to hold on for the win! Congrats Max! This is Maxwell's first Helmet of the year and the second of his Btln 3739 career!
Again, Congrats to GeRRald! We here at the blog salute you !

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats to Su-Spence! Way to go Spencer! Spencer takes the third Helmet of the 2012/13 Btln season!
This week we played handball for the first time this year. There were so many guys that we needed to add a third ball so that nobody was left standing around. It was awesome! At one point there were three scrums basically dog piling each of the three balls! So funny to watch! At the end we took away two of the balls to ratchet up the intensity and played "Next goal wins". It didn't take long for the game to end, Ben's team defeating J-man's team!
In Bible study this year our theme is "The history of the world" or "His Story". Two weeks ago we talked about the Creation of the world and this week we talked about the fall.(Genesis 2:8-25 & Genesis 3:1-24)
One tree, that was it, there was one tree that Adam and Eve were not allowed to touch! It sounds so easy! Why didn't they follow one simple command? God fully explained the consequences but they chose to disobey anyways.
Genesis 2:16,17 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”
How many people turn down God's salvation? It is also very simple! We only need to accept his free gift! Just like in the garden of Eden the consequences are huge! An eternity in heaven with God or an eternity in hell seperated from God!
Romans 5:16,17 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
We ended the night with Bulldog.(Big surprise right?)Could there be any other way to end a night at Btln?

LIONS TRIP 2012!

On Saturday morning 16 guys from Btln 3739 headed for Vancouver to watch the B.C. Lions play the Toronto Argos! First stop was at the statues just above Osoyoos and then on to Timmy's for breakfast. Our timing was bad, the lineup was out the door! The lineup was inconvenient but not a deterrent because the guys were desperate for donuts. We made other stops in Princeton, Abbotsford (Where the guys picked up a Burger King crown. 1,2,3 King!) and Vancouver before arriving at the Science World parking lot. Geoff (Sarge 89)and his son Sam as well as d-Pod joined us for the game. It was a good game, lots of back and forth action with some big plays. (The Lions returned a kick for a touchdown. It was called back on a penalty but exciting nonetheless.)
The final score was Lions 28 - Argos 23
After the game we headed to Boston Pizza for supper. BP was busy but again the wait was not a deterrent! After pizza we headed for the Super 8 in Abbotsford where we spent the night. (You would think that with an earlier game we would have got more sleep than in the past. False! Most guys stayed up late!)The next day the guys spent time on the waterslide and made a trip to Wal-Mart. (Through some blackberry bushes and out an alarmed fire exit.)
We made our traditional trip to the mall and then on to Red Robin. Ryley and Joe met us for lunch(So glad that they could make it! It was Ryley's birthday!) I decided it was time to take a final picture before we headed home when I realized that I had left my camera at Boston Pizza in Vancouver!(This is why there are no pics!) We said our goodbyes and then headed for home.
This trip was Btln 3739's tenth year in a row going to Vancouver to watch the Lions! It just keeps getting better! Another amazing trip with so many good memories!
