BREAKING BULLDOG MUSIC NEWS

SO THIS JUST IN (not really....march9) MICHAEL TAIT FROM DC TALK IS NOW THE LEAD SINGER FOR NEWSBOYS! ok so i guess this has been news for awhile now but i had no idea! this has blown me away as a huge fan of music and a huge fan of DC Talk and Newsboys! Peter Furler is stepping down for road shows and is focusing on writing and doing studio albums while living with his family and Michael Tait from DC Talk will be the new front man for this already legendary band! im absolutely shocked! ha i suddenly wish that Newsboys were performing at Creation Fest now haha! i cant imagine seeing Tait sing shine instead of Jesus Freak!!!! ha man alive hands down the biggest news of 2009! im not sure what to think about it to be honest, i suppose Taits solo career wasnt all that much and hes got an amazing voice (my favorite vocalist from DC Talk) so using his amazing vocals in a already amazing band makes sense! i wonder if he'll still put out any solo stuff? im still waiting for Loveology.....

BTLN UPDATE

At the beginning of the year we started a program called "One forward and one back". The thought behind the program was to honor the Sergeants of Battalion 3739. We decided that we would give every Sergeant a "Sergeant jersey". Problem is that we have 30 years and 22 Sergeants(Good problem!). We could not afford to buy 22 jerseys all at once so the solution to the problem was to buy 2 jerseys every year, therefore we have "One forward and one back". In September Drew was the first Sergeant to receive his jersey, and this week Devin was the second. Next year Jason and the new Sergeant will receive their jerseys.
This week we talked about Mark and how God and Paul gave him a second chance.(Even though Paul did not want to at first.) Mark had deserted Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. Read(Acts 15:36-41)
Later we read that Paul wanted to see Mark and mentions that Mark is now useful to his ministry.

2 Timothy 4:11b - Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.

Paul must have remembered what God had inspired him to write.

Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Thankfully God is a God of second chances. God later used Mark to write the Gospel of Mark!
Besides Devin we had two other old Sergeants show up on Wednesday night. Jason 2006/07 has reading week and Geoff Martens 1988/89 is in G.F. with his family visiting his mom and dad. It is always nice to have Alumni make an appearance! Alumni are welcome anytime!
We played murderball and no matter how hard we tried we could not make even teams. D-Pod changed teams a couple of times and Nathan was traded, but no matter what we did, every game was a blowout. Including the leaders verses the boys, it is now leaders 2 and boys 1.
D-Pod won his third helmet and pulled into a tie with Drew for the lead in the race for Winston in the M.L.B., Major League Bulldog or is it the N.B.A., National Bulldog Association in any case with each passing week the race gets a little tighter.

BTLN DOG TAGS

So now we have dog tags, they are not supposed to replace the Btln Medallions, it is just a little more Btln Bling. The detail on the dog is amazing, they look really good. I have key rings so you can use it as a key chain or you can wear it like a dog tag.(Makes sense that Btln would have dog tags.) The grads will get them on Last Night when they get their Medallion. Btln update tomorrow.

BTLN TOP TEN 2009

So here is the top ten from Brigade Night 2009, written by Ben Jepsen and performed by Drew Brown, David Podovinikoff and Samuel Jepsen.

~TOP TEN REASONS TO GO TO BTLN~

10. We have a great home! The Gospel Chapel has been very gracious to us and has given us a place to stay and to hang out! The new BTLN headquarters!

9. We are very accepting so long as you're between the grades of 7-12 and you're a guy then you're in!

8. We are family, it's something you can be a part of and be proud of, no we are not a cult or a gang but some say we walk the line.

7. We take care of you! With the amount of free food at BTLN we are convinced that someone could actually just live off of BTLN!

6. You get to be a part of a long line of BTLN history and legends, such as; Tim Martens, Ted Martens, Scott Bekker, Gerry Nickel, Bruce Jepsen, and Joe Kraftchick.

5. We will never shoot down your biggest dreams, we guarantee that they aren't bigger than the ones we already have, if anything we will only take them further than you could have ever imagined! For example; one day we hope to buy Grand Forks! Like I said no dream is too big for BTLN!

4. Somehow we always think Todd Bertuzzi will join us on our adventures... (see number 5)

3. You never know what will happen at BTLN, for example we have this weird habit of taking pictures with any statue we find on our road trips...I really don't know why but hey I don't know why we do a lot of the things we do at BTLN

2. We are sponsored by Reebok, Everlast, Beaver Buzz, Pepsi, DQ, Subway, Snickers, The BC Lions, Toby Mac, Relient K, Boston Pizza, Bacon, Barqs, and Bruce Jepsen...ok well that's not actually true but if you go to BTLN you will know why all of these things are important to BTLN.

1. And the number one reason to go to BTLN! Drew Brown goes (and for all you ladies out there he's single! PS. so is Ben Jepsen!)

BTLN SHIRT

So we talked about doing hoodies and some how it morphed into 3/4 sleeve baseball shirts. Ya I know we have already done two shirts this year, but this is what the guys want. The colour on the shirt and bulldog is not perfect, it is going to be navy blue, but it gives you an idea what they are going to look like. We are going to put our order in on Thursday so if you want one let me know in the comments.

Bulldog Music Presents "The 3739 Top 27 Most Anticipated of 2009" Also bands you NEED to check out!

Ok so i started working on this project and realized it was going to be way too huge for one post! So here is part one of a 4 part series of the most anticipated albums of 2009 and or bands you need to check out that you never have heard of! enjoy!

27. Ivoryline-Speculation for new album

Tooth and Nail continues to add to their power house line up and last year they added Ivoryline. I was very impressed with these guys and the their sound, though it can be easy to roll your eyes thinking the world doesnt need another Anberlin or Classic Crime, I think youll be pleasantly surprised by Ivoryline as not another copy but a new sound!

26. Seabird-Speculation for new album

I picked up their album awhile back since "credential records" has yet to disappoint me with any bands they have signed, and they continue to hold up their name! i really enjoyed seabirds softer melodic rock and catchy tunes, worth your while to at least go listen to!

25. Mat Kearney-"City Of Black And White" May 19th

I remember buying one of Mat's cds when i was in k-town with ryley and cam! me and ryley picked up his cd and both loved it! i have never had the privilege to see him live but i love his stuff! he mixes an acoustic rap like style very well! similiar to Paul Wright but in my opinion better writing! ive been looking forward to a new album from him for some time now and cant wait to pick this one up in may!

24. Fair-Speculation

again another great band that hasnt put something out in a long time! lead singer aaron sprinkle is a very busy man working with a lot of bands (Pedro the Lion, Acceptance, Emery, Anberlin and Damien Jurado just to name a few) so it may be the main reason why he hasnt put anything out as of late! none the less another great band to check out! great melodic rock that is very well done!

23. Fiction Family-"Fiction Family" January 20, 2009

What do you get when you combine Jon Foreman from switchfoot and Sean Watkins from nickle creek? well you get Fiction Family! now i know their cd is already out but it did come out in 2009 so im throwing it in anyway! these two mesh to make a great duo and in my opinion anything with Jon Foreman is worth checking out! Fiction Family is not as heavy as switchfoot but not as mellow as Jon Foremans solo stuff!

22. Hawk Nelson-Late 2009 (they are coming out with a remix cd this year as well)

I will never forget being in the mosh pit the first night of Creation fest 2008 and looking around me wondering why there was so many teenage boys and girls, and then hawk nelson started playing and it all made sense! ha now dont get me wrong these canadian boys know how to rock (they are from Peterborough, Ontario) and you could tell that while they were on stage that night! they put on a great show and the pit was actually pretty crazy (as far as creation fest goes). these guys have done some great stuff and is sure to continue to get better as they get older and tighter as musicians! maybe not always my cup of tea but they deserve to be on this list!

21. Kmax (Kevin Max)-"Cotes d'Armor" sometime 2009

Ok so i have never seen Kmax live (not even when he was with DC Talk) and i have never met him but lets be honest hes just kinda weird! ha but i guess i am too......none the less this guy has one of the best voices i have ever heard (one of the many reasons DC Talk was amazing) to this day my favorite album of his was his first but he still makes great music! though he never will be what he was with DC Talk, and i dont even think people really know him for that anymore (sadly the DC Talk generation is getting older haha) he is still very talented and has some great stuff worth checking out!

well thats that dont ever say that you dont know any good bands to check out or new music! you now have a great start! by the way if your looking to listen to any of these guys dont go download thats not the point of this post! go check out their myspace or find someone who has the cd and borrow it! or even go buy it haha! DONT DOWNLOAD ITS STEALING! ha ok well the music industry can never say i didnt do anything for them haha! have a great day guys!

BTLN UPDATE

I can't explain this floor hockey thing that is going on at Battalion. We bought new nets and sticks, but figured that Stockade would be the ones that would be using them. It turns out that a lot of the young guys at Battalion are into floor hockey. It is a good way to start the night, not that we have to play floor hockey every week but it is good to change things up.
There were a lot of guys this week, at least ten more than last week(35-40?). Not sure why there were more guys out but we are thankful for everyone that God brings to Battalion. Lets pray that God will bring more boys so that we can teach them God's word!
It was Owen's turn to encourage us from God's word. He talked about following God through the good times and the bad. Owen referred to the story of Job and how he stayed true to God even though he lost everything.

2Timothy 2:1-3 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

There are times in life when we will need to endure hardship. That is why we need to first be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, so that we can endure hardship with God's help.
Nathan has been asking(begging)to play Mike 23(There are not 23 versions of Mike, it is just that we are not sure if it is Mike 2 or 3 so we call it 23)the whole year, this week we finally gave in. There are five large exercise balls, four quadrants, four teams and six mini games. You have to keep the balls out of your quadrant or keep them in your quadrant depending on which mini game we are playing. There is a lot of chaos involved in this game, anywhere else this would be a problem but at Battalion.... well you know. After Mike we played one round of fire, fever, flood. Kevin and Nathan were the final two with Nathan winning(I faked Kevin out and he fell to the ground).
The Bulldog is intense every week but it seems more so as we get closer to the end of the 08/09 season. Guys are teaming up to catch the guys that are leading the race for Winston. Drew was caught early so he made sure that the rest of his competition didn't have a chance to win. I love the strategy that is involved when we play Bulldog. Kaleb outlasted everyone to win his first helmet of the year. Congrats Kaleb!(Kinda surprising that this was Kaleb's first win)

WINSTON STANDINGS (7 WEEKS TO GO)
DREW BROWN - 3 Helmets and 1 Major
SAMMY JEPSEN - 3 Helmets
SAM SCHIESSER - 3 Helmets
STEPHEN LAWRENCE - 3 Helmets
STEVEN FEENSTRA - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
DAVID PODOVINIKOFF - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
ZAC GOBBETT - 2 Helmets
PARKER STEADMEN - 1 Helmet and 1 Major
ANDREW EYRE - 1 Helmet

BRIGADE NIGHT 2009

Four Btln Majors this year and four different winners. Congrats to Parker on his second Ping Pong Championship! D-pod put up a fight but in the end Parker was too much for him, Parker won three straight games to take the title. Parker now has three Btln Majors, Ping Pong in the 2005-06 season, The Btln Masters(golf) in the 2007-08 season and Ping Pong in the 2008-09 season. With one more Btln Major win Parker could tie the record for total Btln Majors with four.
Drew, D-pod, Sammy, Zac and Max all said a passage on the stage, I think that is the most guys that we have ever had saying a passage! It was awesome! There is nothing better than listening to guys quote Scripture, especially on Brigade Night in front of a crowd. You guys did Battalion proud! Sammy, Zac and Max finished the Memory Work for the first time, so Owen, Devin and I gave these guys their Btln Medallions on the stage, it was very cool!
Ben wrote "The Top Ten reasons to go to Battalion" and again I am amazed how he is able to write it every year and it always has everyone laughing. Good job Ben! Drew, D-pod and Sammy read the top ten and did a good job considering they didn't see it until just before the service started. I will put the top ten on the blog later this week.
Thanks to Dan, Phil and Charlie for coming out and supporting us! Thanks again to John, Howard and Bill(check the previous post)for making the trip from the coast.
We have lots to be thankful for over the last thirty years, I pray that in thirty years we can have even more to be thankful for.

PING PONG UPDATE

It is strange to see the guys playing floor hockey at Battalion isn't it? When I went to Battalion that was all that we played, but we quit playing floor hockey around fifteen years ago.(We kinda ran out of room) Big Chris was surprised to see hockey sticks in the equipment room.(The sticks have always been there, I guess they are more noticeable in the stick rack.)
We had ordered a Ping Pong table for the tourney and it finally showed up today, so Sammy and I put it together before Btln tonight. Thanks for the help Sam! The Ping Pong tourney started with 25 guys and after tonight there are two guys left standing. Parker and D-pod are in the final on Sunday, it should be a good battle. Congrats to both, this will be the second time in the final for both guys, only difference is Parker won the first time he played in the final(against Jason) and D-pod lost(against Ball).
There is more to write, but it is getting late and tomorrow is another day.

14th ANNUAL BTLN PING PONG TOURNEY

Can't believe that this will be number 14! Lots of good memories over the years, I wish that I had taken more pictures. There have been 8 winners over the last 13 years, Courtenay and Nathan won it twice each and Calvin was the champ 4 years in a row! Who will win this year? Can Parker return to the form that saw him win in the 05/06 season? Will D-Pod finally win now that Nathan is out of the way? Is there someone else that can take the title? We will find out soon enough. Good luck to all!

BTLN UPGRADES

Battalion had a couple of upgrades this week. First Charlie and his dad designed and built a hockey stick rack. The rack is sweet, it looks pro and works even better than it looks. It really cleans up a lot of the clutter. Stockade plays hockey every week so it will get used a lot. Secondly Btln purchased an arm wrestling table, we figured for the fifteenth Btln Olympics that we should upgrade the arm wrestling. This year has been amazing, so many upgrades for Btln and a few more still to come.

BTLN UPDATE

Stevie pulls out the win in B-dog! That is three for the year!
We had the ping pong tables out last night,(it is awesome to have the equipment room to store our gear in)so the guys could practise for the Ping Pong Tourney next week.
It was cheese burgers last week and this week we had pizza for the R.B.C., we also handed out Bibles to some of the guys that didn't have one.
Jeremy led the Bible study and we have now moved from first Timothy in to second Timothy.

2Timothy 1:12 - Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.

Jeremy talked how we are not good enough to get into heaven on our own and that we are not good enough to keep ourselves saved either.

1Peter 1:5 - Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

We are kept by the power of God! He saves us and he keeps us!
Jonathan asked me if we were going to play deathball, that had me laughing, of course my answer was yes. Deathball(formerly known as murderball) was a little lopsided, my team taking it on the chin. After we played a few rounds we played leaders against the boys and the score is now Leaders 1 - Boys 1.
After the night was over a few of the guys adjourned to the dubber. When we were there Sammy explained to us The Walk of Life. Way to deep, cannot explain it all here(ask Sammy to explain it to you).
Remember next week is the Ping Pong tourney, come early!
