BTLN UPDATE

Congrats to Zane on his second Helmet of the year! Zach and Zane were the final two this week and again Zach is there at the end but was not able to close the deal. Better luck next week Zach.
Again this week we played Murderball and with the numbers down this week there was a lot more running. The games were quick and the wins went back and forth between both teams but in the end Jeremy and Devin's team emerged triumphant.
Jeremy had us in John 2:1-11 for Bible study this week. This was the story when Jesus and his disciples went to a wedding. Part way through the wedding the wine runs out and Jesus takes ordinary water and turns it into wine.(The Master of the Banquet called it the choice wine because it tasted so good.) Jeremy wondered why Jesus would turn water into wine if the guests had already had to much to drink and clearly God tells us not to get drunk on wine. God is never going to force us to make the right choices, he has given us a free will and we need to make the right choices ourselves! Remember that he will also provide a way out so that you can make the right choice!
Another reason for the miracle was to reveal his glory and to build the faith of his disciples.(On a side note this was obviously his first miracle. Jesus must not have been doing miracles as a child or a teen.)

John 1:11 - This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

October is done and what is next? There are seven weeks left in the First Half of the 2010/11 Btln season. Including the Sixteenth Battalion Olympics and then a couple of weeks later it is the Three B's.(Many good times left in the first half.)

"Meet the Nation" with Harry Tournemille coming soon!

BTLN NEWS - SKILLET WILL BE AT CREATION 2011!

That's right Skillet will be at Creation 2011 and will again be the last band of the week! This is a great way to close the week as Skillet has an amazing show that is second to none.
The question is will you be there? The Memory Work list is available and although we are not starting until January there is no reason why you could not start memorizing now. Why not get an early start?

WINSTON STANDINGS

After the first Btln Major of the year(The Royal Rumble)it was time for a Winston Standings update. After winning The Royal Rumble Stevie has taken the early lead away from Chris.(The Majors are the first tie-breaker.) Probably the biggest surprise of the year so far has to be Zach Gobbett going seven weeks without a Helmet. Zach finished in second place last year with 5 Helmets and 1 Major. Plenty of time for Zach or anyone else to get a couple of Helmets and get back into the race for Winston.

Stephen Lawrence - 2 Helmets and 1 Major
Chris Henderson - 2 Helmets
Dalton Shore - 1 Helmet
Zane Lawson - 1 Helmet
Ben Nicolson - 1 Helmet

BTLN UPDATE - THE ROYAL RUMBLE

The Rumble is now over and what a night! Thirty-five guys competed for the belt in the Rumble, it was our biggest night of the year so far. We started the night with Skillet "Monster" and how appropriate! You had to be a Monster to survive and win the belt! The Lightweights(grades 7-9) started the night for us with the final three staying in with the Heavyweights. Zac Wheaton, Spencer Henderson and Travis VanCamp were the last three Lightweights. Zac was the last Lightweight in the ring and therefore our 2010 Lightweight Champion!(Zac lasted a long time with the Heavyweights proving that he will be dangerous next year!) Congrats Zac!
Next up were the Heavyweights and what a battle, it was awesome! Like the Lightweights three guys from the Heavyweights (grades 10-12) outlasted everyone else and deserve to be recognized. Chris Henderson(The King), Dalton Shore and Stevie Lawrence. Stevie and Dalton worked together and knocked Chris out, leaving two to decide the night. At first Dalton had the upper hand and almost forced Stevie out.(It was literally within a few millimeters) But Stevie was able to get back up and push Dalton out to take the belt! Congrats Stevie!

Special thanks to Cam Tyssen for setting up and running the sound! (Not sure what we are going to do when Cam is gone.)

Thanks also to Devin, Owen and Jeremy for all of their help! It doesn't go unnoticed!

Once again Congrats to Stevie and Zac!

We will have our answer Wednesday night!

Remember there are two weight classes. The Lightweight division, grades 7-9 and The Heavyweight division, grades 10-12.

Don't forget to come early!

Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

2010 CHAMPIONS!

What an amazing trip! The Btln Bus is the best for these road trips! I am so thankful for it! We headed out early Saturday morning for Vancouver. On our way we stopped at Osoyoos for Timmy's breakfast sandwiches.(Not my favourite, but they are all right.) Our next stop was in Abbotsford to pick up d-Pod and to get some lunch. Burger King was our choice for lunch and apparently it was not a good one. Not sure if I have ever disliked a burger as much as that BK double stacker. (The only good thing to come out of Burger King were those crowns. Chris is the King!)(Jeremy and Devin were also disappointed with the food.) After leaving B.K.(We almost left without Stevie. He was in the bathroom at B.K.)we made our way into Vancouver and to the field were we would wreak havoc on the Coasties! After warming up for a while Kelowna(3445) showed up and a little while later the Coast team. At first it looked like Kelowna would have to play with the Coast and then finally Langley showed up.(It is supposed to be the Interior verses the Coast.) The game was close at first as the Coast's quarterback ran the ball a lot.(A lot like Ricky Ray, only we made the necessary adjustments.) After some adjustments on defence the Interior started to pull away.(Zach and D-Pod had the Coast quarterback on the run most of the game.) Zach had a touchdown were he ran almost the entire length of the field. The final was Interior 35 and Coast 7. We had touchdowns by Zach, Zane, Dan, Phil and ?(Can't remember the fifth touchdown.) Anyways we decided that next year the game would not be between the Interior and the Coast but between 3739 and 3445. After drinking Canada Dry from the Director's Cup we headed over to Empire to watch an entertaining but very cold game in which the Lions lost in overtime to the Eskimos.(I missed the warmth of B.C. Place.)
Next up was a trip to B.P. to celebrate our Director's Cup Championship and to finally get some good food! After B.P. it was back to the Best Western in Abbotsford for the night. The next day we enjoyed a continental breakfast,(mmm croissants.)some time at the mall, a stop at McDonald's in Osoyoos and then home time.

Can't wait until Director's Cup 2011! Seeking for six?

BTLN UPDATE

Posted by Picasa

Update! I can't believe how fast the weeks are flying by! This week Murderball was on the sched. Everyone was playing and throwing hard this week with a higher than normal head shot total. The games were all real close and the results very even so in the end we played one more for bragging rights and in the end Devin's team took down Jeremy's team.
This year at Battalion we are looking at Jesus' life, and this week at the temptation of Jesus in the desert.(Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13)
It is interesting to note that the devil waited until after Jesus had fasted for forty days and was in a weakened condition before he began to tempt him. Three times the devil tempted Jesus and three times Jesus' response was to quote the Bible. This is why memorizing the Bible is so important! If we know God's word we will be able to conquer temptation!(With God's help of course.)

Psalm 119:9-11 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might sin against you.

2 Peter 2:9a - The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation.

Hebrews 2:18 Because he(Jesus)himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4:15,16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one(Jesus)who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Jesus knows what we are going through and wants to help us out. All we need to do is ask and he will help us avoid temptation!

Chris started in the middle for Bulldog and he took down a couple of leaders early on, needless to say it was a quick game! Zane outlasted the rest of the gang to win his first Helmet of the year! Congrats Zane!

Next week is The Royal Rumble!(Wrestling) Spread the word! Bring a friend!

BTLN NEWS - 2010/11 BTLN SHIRTS!

The new shirts are in and I think we have another winner! The 78 on the front of the shirt represents 1978, the year that Btln 3739 came into existence. And the paw print on the back is obviously a Bulldog paw print. (This should be self explanatory.)

Make sure to bring your money ($35) on Wednesday so that you can take a shirt home. Also if you are coming on the football trip please bring the money ($50).

P-DUB, THANKSGIVING

Psalm 136:1-3,26 - Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

We are so blessed that God's love will endure forever!(He does not change like shifting shadows.) Every good thing that happens to us is because of his great love for us. It is God that gave each of us life, and it is God that will give each of us eternal life with him in heaven if we will just accept his free gift!

We have so much to be thankful for!

BTLN UPDATE - BTLN BASEBALL 2010

Another good night is in the books for the Btln 3739 2010/11 season! The weather could not have been better, it was fabulous!(I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt all night!) Jeremy brought the BBQ and the Menno, Ted cooked it and we ate it.(Thank you Ted and Jeremy!) We played a couple of innings of ball and I'm not sure of the score but it was fairly even. Thanks to Kendall Ashton for coming out and pitching the whole game. Noah M. gets the award for the most casual catch I have ever seen in any baseball game anywhere. Aaron Friesen had the biggest hit of the night.
After ball we played our traditional game of infield Bulldog. It is one of my favourites, there is just something about playing Bulldog on the grass.
Stevie started in the middle and after a few rounds it was down to Zach and Chris for the Helmet. Chris and Zach both battled hard but in the end it was Chris with his second Helmet of the year! Congrats Chris!
Plenty of good times after the night was over with Aaron Jere and Owen. Lots of brainstorming for Btln going on. We talked about a game called "Snakes on a Plane" and something about Bulldog masks, it was a lot of fun.
Special thanks go out to Ben N. who has already brought four friends this year! Ben is new to Btln himself, good work Ben!
Remember, if you bring five friends you get $20 at Dairy Queen!

Next week we are back at the gym! See ya there!

October is here and time again for the Btln Birthdays! I just never get tired of looking for the pictures for the Birthday collages, so many good memories! Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!

2 Thessalonians 1:3 - We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.

BTLN UPDATE

It was Jersey night at Battalion this week. Zach Gobbett was officially made the 24th Sergeant of Battalion 3739! Congrats Zach! As you can see from the pictures Ben Jepsen's jersey is on display in the room. Ben will be the sixth Sergeant to receive his jersey later this year. (I love this "One Forward and One Back" Sergeant jersey program.)
We continued our Bible study series this week with a look at Jesus' baptism and the transfiguration. Why these two events together you ask? In both of these events God the father claims Jesus as his Son.

Jesus Baptism
Matthew 3:16,17 - As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lightning on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

The Transfiguration
Mark 9:7 - Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"

Jesus is the Son of God and God the Son!

Hebrews 1:8 - But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom." (This is God the Father speaking.)

We played Handball this week and this time around the teams were evenly matched. After many goals, a few dog piles and a couple of head shots Owen and Devin's team got the last goal for the win.(I think it was Nathan Klassen that had the winner.)
Dalton Shore started us off in Bulldog and after a few rounds it was down to Zach and Stevie for the Helmet. A couple of rounds later Stevie emerged the victor! Congrats Stevie!

Next week is Battalion Baseball under the Lights at James Donaldson Park! Plenty of Baseball and plenty of Menno! Remember, Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more!

BTLN UPDATE

Week three is in the books and again we had some old and new faces show up for the first time this year. Murderball was on the agenda, and the teams were very lopsided, Ryley's team got their can kicked.(I was on Ryley's team.) I think we lost every game, actually I am trying to forget.(Yes it was that bad.)
Our main text for the Bible study this week was from John chapter 1.

John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

Ryley pointed out that the Bible calls Jesus God. He also pointed out that Jesus himself claimed to be God. These facts leave us with a choice. Is he the God that he claimed to be? Or is he a liar? What will you do with Jesus? These are our only two choices. He could not be a good man or a good teacher if he was a liar. We believe that miracles Jesus performed and the prophecy's he fulfilled prove that he is God! This is our goal this year, to show that Jesus is God.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Jesus is the truth!

Last man standing for Bulldog was Dalton Shore! Congrats Dalton! Little Ben had some help from Jeremy in the middle. Bulldog just never gets old, it is the best part of the night. (Besides the Bible study.)

The Station was the meeting place for our Non-Com's. Again not much planning but a whole lot of Cross Trax and a lot of good laughs! Plenty of good times!

BTLN "WHO AM I" - CAM TYSSEN

Posted by Picasa

Jason had it right, it was Cam Tyssen. This was going to be the next clue.

CLUE #6

We were also thinking about the Ventura, U2, masonry, guitars and music but most of these were too obvious.

We need to do a "Meet the Nation" with Cam Tyssen.
