BTLN UPDATE - ROYAL RUMBLE 12

Congrats Phoenix! Phoenix is the 2016 Royal Rumble Champion! Twenty-nine guys competed in the twelfth Royal Rumble! There were twelve Lightweights (grades 7-9) and seventeen Heavyweights (grade 10-12)!

We always start the Royal Rumble with the Lightweights, and just like last year, the Lightweight Division was over very quickly! I guess the strength difference between grades 7-9 is greater than the strength difference between grades 10-12. Some of the smaller guys hardly touched the ring floor before they were going over the ropes! The final two in the Lightweight Division were Logan and Sam. Sam has made the final three two years in a row in the Lightweight Division, but this year it was Logan taking the Lightweight title! Congrats Logan!

In the Heavyweight Division there were two distinct teams battling each other. The best part was, that even though there were two teams, everyone was still having a good time. Dane, Keegan, Kaylon and Phoenix were working together. The other alliance had Dylan, Jakob, Tyson and Luke. Some of the other guys were wildcards, I was never sure who they were working with. The final three were Zach, Luke and Phoenix. As soon as we get down to the final three you know that two of the guys are going to work together to take out the third. Luke battled hard, but was not able to overcome Zach and Phoenix working together. I love the "Final Two-Ropes Down" tradition that we started at last years Royal Rumble. Everyone is watching and cheering for the Final Two, it is awesome! After the Heavyweight marathon, the Final Two is always going to be over quickly. There isn't any place to hide when the ropes are down. Phoenix was able to overpower Zach and push him out of the ring! I love how everyone rushes the ring after they know who the winner is.

Congrats to both Zach and Phoenix, it was an amazing finish!

2015 Lightweight Division Champion - Logan Cunningham

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Deshawn! This was Deshawn's first Helmet of the Btln season! Jakob was there at the end with Deshawn, but Deshawn was not about to be denied the Helmet! Deshawn was almost down at least once earlier in the Bulldog, so it was quite remarkable that he was able to pull off the win.

For the second time this year we played Handball. I am convinced that we don't play Murderball and Handball enough in the Btln year, but I guess we need to mix it up to keep the guys on their toes. Early on, my team was destroying Ben's team. We jumped out to a 6-0 lead. I was considering trading a player until Isaac showed up. After Isaac joined the game, Ben's team completely turned the tables on us. Before we knew it, the score was 8-8! The score ballooned to 17-13 for Ben's team. We went to next goal wins, and the team that dominated got the result that they deserved. Ben's team getting the last goal!

In Bible study our topic was Thanksgiving. We can all learn to be more thankful people!

Psalm 136:1-3
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
     His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
     His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
     His love endures forever.

Colossians 3:15   Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Ephesians 5:19b-20   Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

We are supposed to "give thanks in all circumstances" and "always be giving thanks to God for everything"! This shouldn't be hard, we have so much to be thankful for!

Next week is Royal Rumble 12! (Wrestling)

MIKE NIGHT UPDATE

Congrats Luke! This was Luke's first Helmet of the season! This was also Luke's second Helmet since he joined Btln. It is never easy to win the Helmet! Kaylon was there at the end with Luke battling for the Helmet, but came up a little short. Better luck next time Kaylon!

We had a surprise guest for Btln this week. It was Mike Hughes! Yes, it was the Mike that invented the game Mike! It was so epic to have Mike on Mike Night! The game has been slowly evolving, and just keeps getting better every time we play it! Ben's team had an early lead, but the other three teams caught up giving us the closest finish we have ever had! Mike's team and Devin's team tied for first 65-65! Ryley mentioned that we should have a bonus round in the Btln room between Mike and Devin. It sounded crazy, but why not? The guys all moved to one end of the room while Ryley flashed the room lights. I threw three balls and Mike came up with two of three giving his team the win in overtime! Mike winning it for team Mike on Mike Night!

Mike Night Final Scores
Mike's team - 65 + 2
Devin's team - 65 + 1
Ben's team - 64
Ryley's team - 63

This week Ryley offered to take a turn at the Bible Study! It is so good to have Alumni helping out!
Ryley had the boys read John 3:16 over several times.

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Ryley asked several questions.

1) Who has God rescued?   A) "For God so loved the world"

2) What did God rescue us from?   A) "that whoever believes in him shall not perish"

3) What has he given us instead?   A) "but have eternal life"

4) How has he rescued us?   A) "He gave his only begotten Son"

5) What do we have to do to be recued?   A) "that whoever believes in him"

6) Why would he rescue us?   A) "For God so loved the world"

Ryley pointed out that there is so much packed into this one verse! Will we ever comprehend God's love that sent his one and only Son to pay for the sins of the world? Amazing love!

Ryley also read the parable of the lost son to illustrate God's love for us. (Luke 15:11-32)

Thanks again Ryley!

BTLN UPDATE - SHIRT REVEAL NIGHT

Congrats Dylan! This was Dylan's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Dylan has been very close to winning the Helmet a few times already this year. He was not about to be denied this week!

This week was the reveal of the new Btln shirt! This years shirt is our 18th! I am so happy about how these turned out! Thanks to Bruce (Sergeant 1984), Laird and Ben (Sergeant 2006)(and anyone else who helped) for all their hard work! I think we have another winner!

We were going to play Mike this week, but I decided to wait a week. Instead of Mike we played Murderball for only the second time this year. Devin and Ben wanted to play against Ryley, so we made the teams so they could get their shots in on him. Ben and Devin's team was too strong the first game, beating Ryley's team easily. Mike switched teams and that was all that we needed to turn the tide. Ryley's team won the next two games, winning the series 2-1! We finished with a game of Fire-Fever-Flood that Uzzie was able to win over Ryley!

In Bible study our topic was, "God knows me".

Psalm 139:1-6
You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

This passage in Psalms tells us that God has searched us, and that he knows us! It is amazing that God takes such an interest in us. Especially after he has seen all the garbage that we have hidden away. The passage tells us that he knows our thoughts, words and deeds. The amazing thing is that he still loves us!

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.

God knows our failures, but wants to help us fix our problems. We can ask God to show us where we are falling short of what he wants for us. After all, he knows us better than we know ourselves!

Psalm 33:13-15
From heaven the Lord looks down
    and sees all mankind;
from his dwelling place he watches
    all who live on earth—
he who forms the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Sergeant! Tyson has his first Helmet of the Btln Season! I can't remember for sure who was there at the end with Tyson, I'm thinking that it was Dane and Keegan, not sure though. Anyways, Tyson was the winner, giving us a four way tie for first place in the race for Winston!

This week we played Stickball. It is not quite the same without Ben and Noah, but the other guys really stepped it up on defense to make the game better than ever! It is fun to watch the three teams that are on defense work together to stop the fourth team that is on offense. The more we play Stickball the better it gets. As the defense gets better the scores are lower and closer. Phoenix 's team tied Jakob's team, forcing us into Rock, Paper, Scissors to find a winner. Dylan (Phoenix's team)defeated Luke (Jakob's team) giving Phoenix's team the win!

Stickball Final Scores
Phoenix's Team - 8
Jakob's Team - 8
Devin's Team - 6
Ben's Team - 5

In Bible study our topic was "The wisdom of the world".

1 Corinthians 1:18-21   For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
    the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

If the cross is foolishness to those that are perishing, then it follows that those of us that are saved by the cross will also look foolish to those that are perishing.

At first glance, it appears that God is against wisdom, but this is not true. The book of Proverbs is dedicated to wisdom. God is only against wisdom that denies his existence.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29   Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

When I read the first verse of this passage I thought of Jesus' disciples. As far as we know, none of these men were educated. Again, not that an education is bad, but these men didn't have any credentials to speak of. Jesus could have picked any of the educated religious leaders, but he didn't. What is God looking for in his people? Jesus picked men like Nathanael.

John 1:47   When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

We must remember what the Lord told Samuel.

1 Samuel 16:7   But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

We only need to have our heart right with God and then we will be ready to serve.

It is Mike Night next week!
