BTLN UPDATE - ROYAL RUMBLE ELEVEN

Congrats Noah! Noah is the 2015 Royal Rumble Champion! Twenty-seven guys competed in the eleventh Royal Rumble! There were fifteen Lightweights (grades 7-9) and twelve Heavyweights (grade 10-12)!

The Lightweight Division seemed to move along quickly, there were not any stalemates. In the past we have had to add the Heavyweights at the end to keep things moving. This year we kept adding guys and they kept going over the ropes. The final three in the Lightweight Division were Caleb Hiebert, Sam Anderson and Jacob Speta! Jacob outlasted Caleb and Sam to take the Lightweight Crown! Congrats Jacob!

The Heavyweight Division was different this year. There were two teams that were battling each other that created a log jam. Keegan, Dane and Phoenix were against Noah, Ben and Mitch. Once Phoenix and then Dane were both gone things started to move again.  The final three were Mitch Bron,  Ben Nicolson and Noah Makortoff! Mitch was double teamed by Ben and Noah and fought hard but was unable to survive the onslaught! With Mitch gone, there were now only Ben and Noah left to battle it out for the belt!  I don't think I have ever seen two guys that were so evenly matched! It was an epic battle! It seemed like it would never end!  Finally, we decided to hold the ropes down so that they would not have to throw each other over the ropes. (We will be doing "Ropes Down" for the final two every year!) This strategy had an unexpected upside, everyone could actually see what was happening! Everyone was watching and excited about watching the finish! Both guys were close to winning, but in the end it was Noah wearing the Belt! Congrats to both Ben and Noah! A finish I will never forget!

2015 Lightweight Division Champion - Jacob Speta

Special Thanks to Ben, Dan, Devin and Lukas for all of their help! The Royal Rumble is not possible without your help!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Noah! This was Noah's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Tyson was there at the end looking for his second Helmet of the year, but Noah out gained him on the last round to take the win! GO Blue Jays!

This week we played the Btln Trifecta for the first time this year! Actually, we played the Btln Quadfecta! I know, Quadfecta doesn't sound as good as Trifecta. I guess we will just call it The Quad. The Trifecta usually includes three of the following, Murderball, Handball, Extreme Bulldog and Fire-Fever-Flood. This week we played all four! Dan's team was able to win Murderball, Handball and Extreme Bulldog. My team was only able to take Fire-Fever-Flood. My team had speed and Dan's team had size. Size over speed this week!

In Bible study this week our topic was Faith. The next three Bible studies will be Faith, Hope and Love.

Hebrews 11:6   And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Faith is required to please God, because faith is simply believing that God exists and trusting in him for your salvation.

Hebrews 11:1   Now faith is confidence in what we hope for (being in heaven with Jesus) and assurance about what we do not see. (God, heaven)

2 Corinthians 5:7   For we live by faith, not by sight.

We cannot see God or heaven. We must believe that they exist! We have to trust that God's promises in the Bible are true!

Hebrews 12:2b   Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Jesus is the one that will give us the faith that we need!

Romans 10:17   Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

God will grow our faith as we study his word!

Ephesians 6:16   In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Finally, we can use faith to defend ourselves from the evil one!

Next week is Royal Rumble 11! Make sure that you are early! October 28th at 6:45 p.m.

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

Congrats Nate! Nate has been so close to winning so many times this year, that it was just a matter of time before he would win the Helmet! Nate is extremely tough to take down in Bulldog! It takes more than one guy to take him down! He apparently sacrificed his new Btln shirt for the win!

Mike Night is always exciting, it is one of most anticipated nights of the year at Btln!  At the beginning Ben and Noah's team had this dance/stare down thing going on. It was awesome! (Think Maori warrior haka dance that the New Zealand rugby team does before each game that they play.) Lukas' team and Ben and Noah's team were battling it out all night. Nathan's team and Nate's teams were fighting for the bronze. Early on Lukas' team had a five point lead that would slowly disappear. In the end the scores tightened up, making for a close finish!

Mike Night final scores
Ben and Noah's team - 37
Lukas' team - 35
Nate's team - 32
Nathan's (the beard) team - 31

In Bible study our topic was "Contentment and Thankfulness".

1 Timothy 6:6   But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

Can you imagine being content with just food and clothing? If that is all that we should need to be content, then we here in Canada have a lot to be thankful for! I think that true contentment leads to thankfulness.

Ephesians 5:19b-20   Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

God has done so much for us! We have so many things that we can be thankful for! If contentment leads to thankfulness then I think that thankfulness will naturally lead to generosity!

2 Corinthians 9:7   Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Lastly, our generosity will lead to thankfulness!

2 Corinthians 9:11   You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

If we are generous then those that we help will be thankful to God! God will use our generosity to help other people be thankful!

Thanks to Ben for the Mike Night pics! Love the grainy pics! (They have an artsy feel to them!)

BTLN UPDATE - BTLN BASEBALL AND SHIRT REVEAL!

Congrats to Tyson on his first Helmet of the Season! Bulldog in the infield has to be one of my favourites all year long! It is a Btln classic! I love not being able to touch the base path or the pitchers mound in the middle of the infield, it changes the game!

It was so awesome to have our Blue Jay inspired Btln shirts revealed at Btln Baseball! Thanks to Ben, Devin, Jason and Laird for all of their hard work! I think the shirts look awesome! We have been working on this design since mid July, so it was amazing when the Jays went on a role to make these shirts even a little more special! Go Jays! We picked this design because both Ben and Noah love baseball and are big Blue Jay fans!

Btln Baseball is always two innings and once through the order. My team was up big after the first inning, scoring early and often! The score was 11-5 after the first! In the second inning Dan's team shut down my team, only allowing four runs. The score was 15-5 after the top half of the second inning. Ten runs should have been a healthy lead, but Dan's team battled back with eleven runs in the bottom half of the second inning to win 16-15! It was an amazing comeback!

Thanks to Ben for pitching to both teams! I'm sure Ben had an icepack on after the game!

Next week we are back at the church. It is Mike Night!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Dylan! Dylan has been close to winning the Helmet so many times lately. It was fitting that he was the one to win this week! Nate was there at the end, but this week was Dylan's time to shine!

We played Murderball for the second time this year. (I could play every week!) The first game was one of the longest we have played in a long time!  (Dan's team beat us in an epic battle!) In the second game we had our revenge! The score was 1-1. In the third we had Dan's team on the ropes before they battled back from one man left! They could not complete the come back though, losing that third game as well as the fourth. My team winning 3-1!

In Bible study we looked at 1 John 5:13.

1 John 5:13   I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

The question was and is, can we know that we have eternal life?

Hebrews 2:14-15   Jesus shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the deviland free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

There are so many people going through life not knowing what their eternal destiny is! This must be awful to go through life not knowing were you will go when you die!

Romans 10:9-10   If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Eternal life is for everyone that believes that Jesus lived, died and rose gain for their sins! It is so simple! God knew that he had to do it all for us! All we have to do is believe! Then we don't have to fear death!

1 Corinthians 15:55   “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Next week we are James Donaldson Park playing baseball "Under the Lights"! There will be hot dogs and hot chocolate!
