BTLN UPDATE - THE 20TH BTLN OLYMPICS

Congratulations to Luke, the 2014 Btln Olympic Champion! What an awesome night! 35 guys competed in the 20th Battalion Olympics! 35 competitors is a new Btln Olympic record! The old record was 32 competitors in 2012. With so many guys competing, time is of essence! For the older guys there is so much work to be done to climb from top to bottom on all five pyramids! Since adding Bench Wrestling in 2011 the scores have been closer from top to bottom and there has been a grade seven finishing in the top three, three out of the past four years!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Noah! This is Noah's second Helmet of the Btln Season! At the end it was Nate and Noah. On the last round Nate was stopped just short of the wall giving Noah the win! I don't think that the race for Winston has ever been this close between six guys!

At the beginning of the night we had the Btln Olympic equipment set up! This week was the Olympic warm-up! Next week is the 20th Battalion Olympics! That's right, 20th Battalion Olympics! So stoked for next week!

Next week is the Btln Olympics and this week was S*A*M! S*A*M is as much fun to watch as it is to play! The 16 glow in the dark Murderballs and nearly 80 glow sticks make S*A*M trippy to play! My team won the first two games of S*A*M. It looked like we would not lose a game, but Ben's team battled back to win the third game. After three we were out of time, my team winning 2-1!

At Christmas time we focus on Jesus' birth and at Easter we focus on his death and resurrection.
This week we looked at Jesus existence before his birth and after his ascension to heaven.

Colossians 1:15-17   The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Hebrews 1:3   The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Hebrews 1:8-10   But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

John 1:1-3   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In these passages we find out that Jesus as God is, the Creator and Sustainer of all things!

What has Jesus been doing since his ascension to heaven?

Romans 8:34   Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to lifeis at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Hebrews 7:25   Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Hebrews 9:24   For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.

Jesus is at the right hand of God and he is interceding for us! This is a full time job!

This next passage gives us a glimpse of heaven!

Revelation 5:11-14   Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

It is the 20th Battalion Olympics next week! Bring a friend and don't be late!

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - NOVEMBER

Birthday time again! Four legends and three young men having birthdays this month! Some classic Btln moments captured in this collage! It is always a lot of fun making these collages, it is so good to look back and remember these moments! Can't wait to see what the future will hold for these men!

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12   We constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Happy Birthday and may God bless you again this year!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Ben! This is Ben's second Helmet of the Btln Season! At the end it was Ben and Noah, seems like these guys do everything as a team! It was just the two of them for about three rounds, and then finally Noah went down, giving Ben the win!

For the first time this year we played Stickball! I love the games that have four corners and four teams, like Mike, Mike 23 and Stickball! The game was closer this time around than in the past, giving us a closer finish and more suspense.

STICKBALL FINAL SCORES
Jonathan's team - 11
Ben & Noah's team - 10
Jason's team - 8
Ben's team - 7

In Bible study this week our topic was, "Why do bad things happen to good people".

This is not an easy topic or one that everyone is going to agree on, but at Btln we are not afraid to try and tackle these tough questions!

Matthew 19:17   And he (Jesus) said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God:

Isaiah 64:6   All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Romans 3:10-11   As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.

These passages teach us that without God none of us are good!

Romans 6:23   For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our sin has earned us death! What a dreadful position we would be in if it wasn't for God's free gift of eternal life!  Jesus took the death that we earned! (At the cross.) Amazing!
(Read Matthew 27:27-31 to see what Jesus did for us!)

Romans 8:22-24   We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

Even if we have accepted Christ's free gift of salvation we will still have to endure troubles. The difference for us as believers is, that we have God to help us through these troubles!

Romans 8:18   I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

The key is, to look to our future in heaven with Christ!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Luke! This is the third Helmet of the season for Luke! At the end of Bulldog we were down to Nate and Luke. Both Nate and Luke were taken down on the last round, but it was to close to call a winner! We reset and went one more round. (Who wouldn't one more round of Bulldog?) In the final round, Nate was tackled halfway across the gym, while Luke was able to make it through the maze of guys to the end of the gym!

This week we played Murderball! This used to be a common thing at Battalion, but lately we have been playing other games. (A kinder and gentler Btln?) In the first game my team dominated. Ben's team would not go down easily, they battled hard, but could not beat us in the first game. In the second game the tides turned! Ben's team beat us easily, setting up a third game. In the third, Ben's team continued what they started in the second game. Ben's team won the third game, taking the series 2-1!

In Bible study we looked at Jesus' death and resurrection.
(Matthew 27:32-54 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

Ben talked about the importance of Remembrance Day and how we should be thankful for the freedom and peace that we have, because of the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers. Ben reminded us that we need to be even more thankful for the sacrifice that Jesus made, to give us peace with God and freedom from our sin!

Romans 6:18a   You have been set free from sin.

Romans 8:1-2   Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 5:1-2   Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

Colossians 1:19-20   For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him(Jesus), and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

WINSTON UPDATE

After nine weeks and one Battalion Major it is time for a Winston Standings update! At this point of the Btln Season we have a three way tie for first place! I am not sure if the standings could be closer after nine weeks! As expected the grade elevens and twelves are dominating the Winston Standings. There are only six more weeks left in the first half of the 2014/15 Btln Season! Who will have the lead at the end of the first half?

JONATHAN FOJT - 2 Helmets
NATE KLASSEN - 2 Helmets
