BTLN UPDATE - THE 19TH BTLN OLYMPICS


 
 
 

Congrats to John, the 2013 Btln Olympic Champion! What an amazing Night! 31 guys competed in the 19th Battalion Olympics! 32 competitors is the record for the Olympics, so we were real close to tying the record! It is so good to see all the guys having fun! (It makes all the work worthwhile!) The early favorites were John and Max, but little did we know that for the second year in a row that a grade seven (Mike) would finish in second place! It proves that everyone has a chance! Can't wait until next year! Year 20!

BTLN UPDATE

 

 
Congrats Josh! First Helmet of the year for Josh! Persistence pays off! Josh was overdue for a win in Bulldog!
 
Two weeks ago Btln was happy to welcome back Devin Chursinoff and this week Nathan Klassen made his return! Nathan spent time in Scotland and in the Ukraine with YWAM! We here at the blog salute you Nathan! Good to have you back Nathan!
 
This week we played Mike 23! Such a good game and a Btln Classic! I would like to call it organized chaos, but it's not! One round the scores go up and the next they go down. First you want to collect the balls and the next round you are trying to get rid of them! All four teams were in the lead at one point during the game, but in the end only one team can win.

Ben was at the helm this week in Bible study. Ben told us that know that we are saved we are to use God's Word as our guide!
 
Romans 13:9-10  The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
 
Romans 13:13-14  Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
 
Romans 5:20-6:2  The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
 
Philippians 4:8  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
 
We are to clothe ourselves with Christ, love our neighbor as ourselves and dwell on those things that are excellent or praiseworthy!

Congrats John! Second Helmet of the year for John! It looked like George had the Helmet in the bag, but John broke free taking the win and the Helmet!
Kaylon is the winner of the shirt of the week! (First ever!) Bacon is always a winner!
This week we played Stickball. Usually when we play Stickball one team beats up on the others but this week it was closer. Maybe the guys are figuring out the strategy. I forgot to announce the final scores this week.

In Bible study we talked about Eternal Security. Can we be sure that we will be in Heaven? Can I know that I have eternal life?
 
Hebrews 2:14-15  Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the deviland free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
 
How can we be free from our fear of death if we don't know where we are going when we die?
 
1 Corinthians 6:19-20  Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
 
When we decided to follow Jesus we gave up ownership of ourselves. God now owns us!
 
1 Corinthians 12:27  Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
 
When we chose Jesus he made us a part of his body!
 
Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
 
Christ lives in us!
 
2 Timothy 2:13  if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
 
2 Corinthians 1:21-22  Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
 
Romans 8:38-39  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
 
1 John 5:11-13  And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

 Ephesians 2:6-7  And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
 
We are already seated with Christ in the heavenly realms!

Philippians 3:20-21  But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
 
We are citizens of Heaven!
 
Ephesians 1:13-14  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
 
We were saved by the power of God and we are kept by the power of God!

BTLN UPDATE

 
 


Congrats Luke! Second Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln 3739 season for Luke! Luke was close to winning the Helmet last week but this week he closed the deal, taking the win and the Helmet! 

This week we were glad to welcome back Devin Chursinoff (Sarge 08) to Btln 3739! Devin and his wife Brittani have moved back to G.F.! We are not sure how often Devin will be able to make it out on a Wednesday night, but it will be a lot more often than in the last few years! Glad to have you back Devin! (Just like old times eh? Ben, Jason and Devin all back! Just missing Charlie from the early Creation crew! Creation 05-07)

This week we played S*A*M! S*A*M has probably never worked as good as it did this week. It is optically trippy and a whole lot of fun to play! I would like to take pictures of us playing S*A*M, but taking pictures of S*A*M is like trying to take pictures of a car crash! (So is playing it!) Devin knocked the wind out of me and someone else smoked me in the head! I should have been watching for Devin! I couldn't see his grin in the dark, but I knew he was smiling! Ben's team beat my team 3 games to 1. I didn't win but it was still a blast!

In Bible study we looked at the Armor of God. So much could be said about the Armor of God, but I will let God's Word speak for itself!

Ephesians 6:10-17  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

John 14:6  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

2 Timothy 2:15  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

The breastplate of righteousness

Philippians 3:7-9  But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

The gospel of peace

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

The shield of faith

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Romans 1:17  For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Romans 10:17  Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:7  For we live by faith, not by sight.

The helmet of salvation

Acts 4:11-12  Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Hebrews 2:2-4  For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

The sword of the Spirit

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

BTLN BIRTHDAYS - NOVEMBER



It's November and it's birthday time again! It is amazing how fast the year (and years) goes (go) 'bye! Legendary Btln 3739 Alumni having birthdays this month! It is so good to look at pictures and relive the memories!

BTLN UPDATE

 
 
 
Congrats Noah! First Helmet of the Btln Season for Noah! It was Ben and Noah at the end. Always on the same team, always working together. Kind of reminds me of the Sedin twins! (That's a good thing!) Funny to watch them battle it out! Noah outlasting Ben for the win!
Handball was on the agenda this week. Ben's team was taking it to my team early and often. Ben and Noah were playing goal and defense (See what I mean?) on Ben's team making it hard for us to score! Max was playing defense for my team and I was playing goal. John was scoring at will on us! The thing about Handball is we always end with next goal wins and this time it worked in my team's favor! Can't remember who had the winning goal for my team, but glad that my team finally picked up the win!
 
In Bible study this week we looked at what God thinks about false prophets and how we can identify them.
 
Deuteronomy 13:1-5  If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.
 

Deuteronomy 18:19-22  I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.

 
If a prophet contradicts God's Word, or if what he says does not come true, then we can be sure that he is a false prophet! We can see that God does not take the false prophets lightly! The Israelites were supposed to kill the false prophets! God does not punish the false prophets the same today as in the past but in eternity he will make things right!
 
Matthew 24:24  For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
 
Even Christians can be deceived by these false prophets!
 
1 John 4:1-3  Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
 
What a prophet believes about Jesus will show us if they are false or if they are from God! They must believe that Jesus is God and that he lived, died and rose again for the sins of the world!

The only way that we can know the truth is to study it!
