ROYAL RUMBLE 9

Congrats Max! First ever back to back Royal Rumble Champion! It was the first of five Btln Majors and it did not disappoint! 33 guys battled for the belt. There were 22 guys in the Lightweight Division! It took around 45 minutes for us to get down to the final two combatants of the Lightweight Division! Gabe and Levi were the last two standing! At this point we started throwing the Heavyweights into the ring. Levi was the last Lightweight, earning him the Lightweight title! Congrats Levi!
The Heavyweight Division had 11 guys plus the last two Lightweights bringing the total to 13. In the Heavyweight Division there were plenty of alliances. Eventually these alliances must be broken or everyone would be left standing in the ring staring at each other! The Heavyweight division took around twenty minutes. The final four were Max, Jonathan, Ben and Noah. Max and Jonathan obviously had one of these alliances. They first eliminated Noah and then Ben. This left Max and Jonathan to fight it out for Btln Supremacy! The guys were evenly matched but Max got the upper hand, forcing Jonathan out of the ring, winning the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row! Congrats Max! Enjoy your victory, you've earned it!
Thanks to Ben, Joe, Sam and Aaron for all of your help! Definitely couldn't have done it without you!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Luke! This is Luke's first Helmet of the year and the fourth of his Btln career! David was there at the end but he couldn't beat Luke.

This week we played Stickball. Not sure why, but it seems like every time we play Stickball one of the teams takes a big lead early and doesn't give it up. This week wasn't any different. Jason's team jumped out to the early lead and wouldn't let it go.

Stickball Final Scores
Jason's team - 19
Jake's team - 11
Ben's team - 8
Ben and Noah's team - 7

In Bible Study we looked at Timothy and Titus. These men were very different but were both very useful to Paul in his ministry.

Timothy
Philippians 2:19-22  I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.  But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

1 Timothy 1:2-8  Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.

1 Corinthians 16:10-11  When Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am. No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers.

Titus
2 Corinthians 8:23  As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ.

Titus 1:5  The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.

2 Corinthians 7:13-15  By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you. I had boasted to him about you, and you have not embarrassed me. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true as well. And his affection for you is all the greater when he remembers that you were all obedient, receiving him with fear and trembling.

God will use you whether you are a natural leader like Titus or whether you are a more reserved or timid man like Timothy!

Remember it is the Spirit of God that gives us the power, love and self-discipline to do his work!

Next week is Royal Rumble 9! Bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE

So many good things happening at Btln 3739 lately that it is hard to keep up with it all! Congrats to Max on his third Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln Season! Will anyone be able to stop Max this year? Last year GeRRald won Winston with three Helmets and Max is already at three!

Thanks to Bruce Jepsen for providing us with Btln towels! What a score and a surprise! We gave the towels out free to the guys that had registered. Bruce, we here at the blog salute you! (I think that Bruce has possibly started a new tradition.)

For only the second time in six weeks we played Murderball! We used to play every second week but times have changed and so has Btln. Anyways, we played four or five rounds and my team got beat every time! Still loved it though! Win or lose I could play Murderball every week!

This week in Bible study we looked at what "The man of God will do". We used Proverbs as our guide.

Proverbs 11:12  Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Proverbs 12:16  Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult.

Proverbs 13:5  The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.

Proverbs 13:22  A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Proverbs 14:16  The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.

Proverbs 29:11  Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.

A Godly man will fear the Lord, love the Truth, provide for his family and will control his tongue and anger. Later we looked at the qualifications for an overseer (Godly man) in 1 Timothy.

1 Timothy 3:1-4  Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer (Godly man) desires a noble task. Now the overseer (Godly man) is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.

With God's help we can be a Godly man like the overseer in this passage in 1 Timothy and then we will be useful to God!

2 Timothy 2:20-21  In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

BTLN MEDALLIONS!

Battalion 3739 would like to thank Nichols Portland for supplying us with over 600 Btln Medallions! I emailed Nichols Portland asking them if I could purchase a few Gerotors so that we could use them as Btln Medallions. The staff at Nichols Portland were so excited that we were using gerotors as Btln Medallions that they decided to give us the Medallions for free!

Nichols Portland, we at Battalion 3739 salute you!

I have posted the emails that Dan Locksmith from Nichols Portland sent to me.

Hello Lance,
Thank you for contacting Nichols Portland. My name is Dan Locksmith and I am a Product Engineer here at Nichols Portland.

We are honored that our gerotor assembly is a Battalion Medallion presented to the boys upon graduation. We will be glad to help you with you gerotor needs, I just have not quite figured out how I will do it. I do not want to take assemblies from our stock, because I do not want to charge you for the gerotors. I am keeping my eye out for some overruns that can be used.

Could I get some information or history about your boys clubs? I have been having some fun with this unique opportunity and picture. Unfortunately, I can not answer questions when people ask. Looking forward to your reply. Have a great weekend.

Hello Lance,
I apologize for the delay. I have put together a package for your Battalion Medallions. Nichols Portland will send them to you and we will pick-up the freight.

Hello Lance,

Please forward me your blog so I can post it here at Nichols Portland and share this experience with our employees. Additionally, provide some photos of the
boys receiving our gerotor assemblies. I would like display them in our lunch room.

To: Canadian Border Guards,

Nichols Portland is very proud to support your local boys club and Lance
Martens, Captain of Battalion 3739. We have provided 500 free gerotor
assemblies, as a goodwill gesture, to be used as Battalion Medallions.

Best regards,

Dan Locksmith

BTLN UPDATE

First off, congrats John! This is John's first Helmet of the 2013/14 Btln Season. John has been a big help this year! You've earned it John!

This week was the unveiling of the new 2013/14 Btln Shirts! Before we were totally settled on the design I predicted that these shirts would be the best Btln shirts we have ever made. I think we have accomplished our goal! This year was Btln 3739's 35th Anniversary and this was our 15th shirt! So we did a redo of our first shirt!(We stylized it!) Anyways, thanks go out to Jason, Bruce and Ben at Eternity Clothing Company! Thanks also goes out to Laird Salkeld for his help with the design! Any Alumni that want one of these shirts can get one of these for $20! (Show your support for 3739!)

This week we played Handball for only the second time this year! This week the teams were close and the score proved it. The game went back and forth until we had a 11-11 tie! We went to next goal wins and without the defenseman helping the goalie it usually doesn't take long for the game to end. David Barney had the game winner throwing it past our goalie giving Bent's team the win!

Ben was on Bible study this week and he had us looking at purity.

Proverbs 5:1-5  My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.

Purity is the goal. If we do not follow God's advice here in Proverbs we are told that there will be terrible consequences! Ben pointed out the way to purity was through wisdom attained through God's Word!

Matthew 5:27-28  “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Jesus raised the bar when it came to purity! It wasn't only the act it was also our thoughts that would get us into trouble!

Ben reminded us that sometimes we will need to run away like Joseph (Genesis 39) when temptation comes calling!

1 Corinthians 10:12-13  So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Hebrews 4:14-16  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle and we can go to him in prayer for help!

So stoked to have Cody Harp come back to visit us at Btln this week! (Should've got a picture!) Got to love it when Alumni come back for a visit!
